Default Marine loses his s*%& in road rage incident...

Okay, this is just scary- according to the passenger of the vehicle (the one who filmed the incident) this marine cut them off and continued to slam on his brakes until they finally hit him. At which point the video begins...

Man he is PISSED! The Marine, reportedly a SGT from Camp Pendleton, absolutely loses his shit and even went as far as striking the vehicle and window, making threats. I'm sorry, I have love for my "other brothers in green" (Marines), but regardless of service or not, you do this to me I'm calling 911, and if I feel you may make a successful attempt at getting into my vehicle to cause me harm, I'm plugging you! I hope this d-bag faces charges, this is behavior not becoming of a United States Marine.

Ok, Marine's bad behavior is obvious, but there is also this:

"“He cut them off and apparently he kept brake-checking them,” said Lisa. “He would slam on his brakes abruptly. They hit into the back of him on the third time.”

The people following him had at least 2 instances to understand this was a driver with a PROBLEM and yet they continued to follow close enough to eventually rear-end this guy on the 3rd time. They need to take some responsibility for that IMO, but no one is going to focus on that much thanks to the Marine totally losing his shit.

^^^Agreed, they are both at fault here, defuse the situation by removing yourself from it

That's bullshit. You're driving down the street, some guy keeps cutting you off and brake-checking you. You get into a different lane, he does it again. What are you supposed to do?

Taking chain of events reported at face value, and it sounds like they could have done more to avoid the situation. Don't take it to mean I'm trying to excuse the Marine's behavior. But generally, there's plenty to do -- change lane, slow down enough to achieve a safe distance in between, or pull over if necessary.

    Can't rear-end someone if you aren't moving.

So... stop in the middle of the road? Pull over?

If you slide back and change lanes, and the guy cuts in front of you, and keeps cutting in front of you, you won't exercise your legal right to drive down the road in peace?

Yes to the first part of your question. There is no legal right to drive down the road in peace.

Take the next turn without signalling and circle the block once. Problem solved.

Road rage is typically random violence perpetrated by unstable individuals about to go off at any moment and just need an "excuse" to focus on one specific target. Remove yourself from the equation and you will be quickly disregarded as he seeks out his next target . . . unless he's already on YOUR rear bumper and tailing you, then you call 911 on your cellphone and slowly drive to a police station, circle a busy parking lot, or keep driving until police respond to your call. Worst thing to do is pull over and talk to the guy as if he's a rational human being, or ignore him and lead him to your home.

I like to believe that there are two sides to every story, and regardless of who actually caused the accident (who knows, what if it went down to a single lane in that direction? What if the angry marine passed in a passing zone?), the marine's behavior is inexcusable and he's lucky he wasn't shot.
