Default What are you using to clean/lube your AR 15...Im using frog lube but not sure yet

What are you upstanding citizens using to clean and lube your AR 15 rifles? I decided to use Frog Lube since I'm using it to lube and clean my Sig P226. The Sig armorers and my local gunsmith recommended frog lube to both clean and lube by P226. I'm assuming that Frog Lube will work for my POF P415 as well so when I first got the rifle, I broke it down and wiped clean the the BCG, barrel, chamber/ramp and what not and then applied frog lube and also did the same thing after shooting 120 rounds. For what its worth, I fired 120 rounds of mixed PMC XTAC 5.56, Remington .226 and Wolf steel case ammo..I also mixed and matched the different ammo in the same mag. All ran without a glitch, even the Wolf steel case ammo. Not sure if that's just a matter of luck, the POF P415 or frog lube.

Dude, you're new so PLEASE either use the search function AND browse the rest of the forums here. There's numerous info, IF you take the time to look.

I use Hoppe's 9 lubricating oil for mine. Man, I just have to give you a +1 for being the new COAR sponge, you want to learn everything you can and ask those who you believe are experienced in this realm, good for you! Learn all you can, ask tons of questions, and sometimes you really have to just dive in with some trial and error. I would advise against using Wolf ammo, it's dirty and steel cases can potentially expand with the head and cause catastrophic malfunctions (haven't had one yet, but heard many horror stories of guys have bad juju from Wolf screwing up the system and that's why we have folks like Bert- BPTactical- to fix what you broke ).

For the record, when I first bought my G22 from Bailey Guns back in '06, I ran four mags of Wolf .40 S&W through it without a hitch before being told don't do that, now I only run Wolf through my AK.

ETA: but, like Jim said, there probably isn't a question you can think of that hasn't been asked 1.6 million times, search. Not sure if I'll get a PM from a Mod, but ARFCOM has some good searches you can run too.

Damn...Thanks for the sage advice and pearls of wisdom. Didn't really know about the search function but ill give it try before asking questions so I can be sure it's never been discussed or better yet I'll ask you to go hunt down the info to be more efficient. And ill pass on the fellatio...got that taken care of by a much prettier source.

Ha...not sure what an R16 in drag is but I prefer my gal to be less hairy than me or at least well shaved!

Seriously, didn't know about the steel case ammo...it was cheap and available. I just thought that Russian crap was dirtier.

Frog lube is great stuff. I use it on all my guns.

Don't mix steel and brass cased ammo. Generally avoid steel cased ammo if possible, especially in your nice POF415. Steel and Brass expand differently. Brass will expand in your chamber and create a good seal so that all the pressure is directed forward, then contract back to normal size after firing. Steel will expand a little (not as much) and so some dirt, hot gas, and other junk from the ammo will get blown back into your action and make a mess of your pretty POF415. Steel will not contract after the heat and pressure is gone, so stuck cases or more serious failures (especially if your chamber is dirty from firing lots of steel-cased ammo) are more likely. Mixing steel and brass is a no-no because the combination of their metal properties is really hard on your chamber, barrel, and action.

Don't mind Jim, he is a little crotchety without his meds. Learning to use the search function will keep him at bay and you will find that almost every gun-related topic has already been posted about and starting a new thread is not always appropriate.

Welcome to the greatest AR-15 dedicated forum on the net!
