Here is one to watch. It has all the trapping for massive abuse.

"A person who KNOWINGLY ACTS IN BAD FAITH in determining that an individual poses a significant risk of causing serious physical harm to himself or herself or others, commits a Class 3 misdemeanor."

So . . . if an anti-gun social worker with a grudge starts putting dozens of people in the community on the registry, simply because she does not like them, thereby sending armed agents of the state to his door to search his home, seize his family's property, label him whacko, and when he gets angry lock him in a mental institution for 72 hours and forcibly restrained and administered drugs against his will . . . all that happens to that social worker is a slap on the wrist? This law IS DESIGNED AND INTENDED TO BE MISUSED, with no real consequences for those who get caught.

I suspect this is in response to the Holmes case. According to early rumors, and more recently confirmed by details released this week, Holmes' psychologist at CU was told weeks before his shooting spree (by Holmes) that he was having homicidal thoughts... supposedly if an avenue such as the one proposed in this bill existed, she may have been able to preemptively "ban" him from purchasing the guns he used.

The bill has already been pulled I believe. Regardless, its unconstitutional for lack of due process.

It does exist. Most Colleges have some form of a What to do during an Active Shooter training program. There is also an LE (@CSU) that works with an EEOC person to deal with "Threats" and or issues students and employees may have. They are the "intervention / investigate" before a LE is called in. Not saying the LE's pass the buck. The program (@ CSU) is for people who have a concern about a co-worker and or fellow student.

Wow!! They really want to go to a model of guilty until proven innocent. This panel that looks stacked against gun owners can deny us the right to possess our guns for a year, which we then have to go to a judge to have reversed? How is that right? This sounds like the equivalent of Death Panels for gun owners.

FYI: I am just reading this but I am in Todd's district. She is having a town hall the morning at 11AM Smokey Hill Library. I suggest as many of us as can show up with our opinion. Don't just start yelling. It only shuts them down. Point out how many votes this will cost them. I know 7 democratic voting families that will be voting for any Republican in 2014. I went shooting with 2 of them on Thursday. they are pissed!! This is where it will get their attention. What Todd is proposing is ridiculous. It is like they are trying to one up each other for a prize of 'best attack on the 2nd' ......worst state wins!!!

I just got back from a townhall meeting over at Smokey Hill Library in Aurora. Todd, Carroll, Ryden and Buchner were in attendance. After the brief time they took questions I talked to Todd on her bill "SHORT TITLE: "Limits On Firearm Possession"".

Here is the juicy part: (Notice the last two sentences)

"A person licensed to practice medicine in this state; a psychologist certified to practice in this state; certain professional nurses; certain licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, or licensed addiction counselors; or a licensed clinical social worker may request the bureau to enter information concerning another person into the national instant criminal background check system if the requesting person believes the other person poses a significant risk of causing serious physical harm to himself or herself or others. A person who is the basis of such a request is prohibited from possessing or purchasing a firearm for one year. The person may petition a court of law for an order reversing such prohibition."

Sooooo anybody with a certificate in mental health just has to request that your name be put on the "mental" list and .... They can take your guns. This dove tails nicely with the register your guns background check bill already coming July 1st. Then you get to pay a lawyer to stop them from melting down down guns in the mean time. Gotta love'em they are consistent in coming at us all crab like. Not a straight on hit... More a pincer move from the side. To be fair, Todd did say that was never supposed to get out and she would not support it like this. She just wants to get the board together now in preperation for next years list of bills. Notice that the board are mostly against guns. I wonder what that list o' bills for 2014 is going to look like?

I heard that CT recently passed a law similar to IL in which you need to acquire a special license simply to purchase ammo.
