Default carrying a firearm in your car

Can an employer tell you if you park in their parking lot they have the right to search your car and you can be disciplined for having a firearm in your vehicle while it is in their parking lot? I thought your vehicle was considered an extension of your home in Colorado? Thanks for any help.

Technically, there's a lot of gray here. If you were aware of the policy and signed off on consent as a part of your employment contract, then you could potentially be fired if you do not allow them to search the vehicle. They do not have the power to "force" a search under any circumstances, but there may be direct and indirect consequences for refusing. Certain employers (.gov, railroads, etc.) may have additional authority under the law, but as a rule, private companies are allowed to dictate policy on private property, so as long as your vehicle is parked on their property, you must abide by their rules.
