Default Should I run my AK's dry?

I like to sparingly use oil inside the receivers of my AK's --- lubing the bolt and trigger group --- but I still get lube splashback from the open slot at the rear of the dust cover onto my safety glasses; every time I fire the gun. I shoot the 7.62x39 and the corrosive Russian 5.45x39. Is it okay to run my AK receivers free of oil, or is there some kind of washer or plug that I can block that open slot in the rear of the dustcover?

    Thanks,

    Erno

It's OK to run dry, or you might try a very sparing application of heavy grease at contact points, which won't go splashing. Only problem with grease is it will attract and hold dirt and grit, so needs to be cleaned out and reapplied, preferably after every outing.

The slot in the rear of the dust cover should contain the recoil spring end that keeps the dust cover in place

I put a little bit of oil on mine before putting it in the safe then wipe everything inside down before going to the range.

I always use grease. Running it dry will just wear out the parts quicker.

Mine run so much smoother with a bit of gear oil on them.

What's better Ford or Chevy? What ever lube you are comfortable using, use it.
