Default Poll: Support for stricter gun control wanes

CBS News is not exactly known as a media outlet friendly to gun rights supporters, so this poll is very interesting.

    Link to story: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-...control-wanes/

As more time elapses from Newtown, people have the opportunity to let the emotional tornado of fear, hate and grief to pass, giving the mind time to work again. With that time, an increasing number of Americans are coming to the realization that gun control does not deliver on its purported benefits. Gun grabbers know this, which is why they find the need to move hastily.

However, it may be that Colorado Democrats and governor have moved too fast, based on this poll data. If national trends provide any insight as to how Colorado voters feel, then the new gun laws have the potential to manifest into a backlash at the polls. At least that is what we are hoping for.

A "throw the bums out" sentiment among moderate Democrats (if there are any left), independents and Republicans could result in a highly motivated and unified voting block in 2014. If the gun grabbers are motivated by temporary emotional storms of fear and anger, our support of the Second Amendment is founded on the bedrock principles of natural rights, Self government and the Bill of Rights. That steadfastness can get us to 2014 as an intact and unified voting force.

There are moderate Democrats, they used to be called Blue-Dog Democrats. On that backlash, its coming. I went to the town-hall meeting this weekend for my district. I let loose on the abomination that were the Senate 'public' hearings. 3 of the 4 representative have written personal (not form) letters to me trying to understand why I and so many others are so upset. They really thought "the people" were behind those bills. I let them know they are wrong. We need to work together to get them out and more than that, to know why. So they don't try this BS again!

You are right, and I used to be a Blue Dog from Arizona, and I left the party years ago.

After all of the letter writing, emailing, posting, Tweeting, faxing, honking and showing up at the state capitol, I can not fathom how any Democrat lawmaker could ever come to the conclusion that "the people" were behind those bills.

A possible reason for the misperception is that they were fed biased data from Bloomberg and other gun control groups. Polls conducted by many mainstream media organizations in December and January did show national support for certain gun control measures, and it may have been that Bloomberg and his crew did their own polling data for Colorado. My guess that if they did, it was biased and designed to entice red district Democrats into supporting the bills. A few did not, but all they needed was the billionaire's poll numbers to support them. Seeing that most of the lawmakers can not make up their own mind, let alone know how a gun works, they would seem to be an easy bunch to influence.

Now, we have the president giving Newtown parents a free ride on Air Force One to Washington DC so they can lobby Congress. I do not know if that is even legal, but I sure as heck would bet the left-wing would object to a Republican president flying ministers and pastors on his plane to lobby Congress to pass anti-abortion laws!

Gun controllers know that time heals, and they have to keep the emotions high to get a vote. However, as more time passes, it isn't that our attention is distracted, it is simply that given time to think people realize that new gun laws will not make things right or prevent future wrongs. Evil happens, that is why we have to work daily to keep it at bay and be prepared to confront it if it darkens our door.
