    Default BSA rifle/shotgun ownership ?

Just had an interesting phone conversation with a fellow Scout Instructor. I told him to contact the Council and have them contact their lawyers but I thought I'd ask if anyone here understood the possible answer.
In the future after the new laws pass- Will an Instructor be able to transport firearms to an event without a BGC and transfer ? Who actually has to be the owners of these firearms ?
In the past we never had to worry about these questions. I've transported up to 15 shotguns or .22 rifles without concern.
The concern now would be the possible confiscation of the BSA firearms if we weren't in compliance with the new vague laws. I fully understand the confusion of the new laws and not even sure if anyone will have the answers at this time. Thanks for any enlightment .

I've had the same concern. The 72 hour "loaner" period just isn't enough to pick up rifles from camp, take them to an event and then take them back without imposing some rather arduous travel for someone. I don't know that our Council's lawyers will be able to shed light on this either because the law is too new and poorly written. I suspect we will have to restrict use of the Council's firearms to the camp until we get further clarification on the laws. Luckily, I think we have more than enough loaners available to support our August Shoot-a-rama but individual district events may be at risk in the future.

Well as long as the trip is less then 72 hours......................

I know Sorry being a sarcastic jerk .

This is one of those COMMON situations that the law makers just don't understand happens ALL THE TIME.

No one will say that the Scouts are doing anything bad.. obviously they are not . but now this law has made them criminals ( or at least potentially criminals )

But to try and help answer.. who owns the weapons currently ?

clublights, typically the firearms (we can't use the "w" word with Scouting equipment) are owned by the council or camp. Individuals have to fill out the 4473s but the firearms go on the property books at the camp or council like any other high value equipment.

Opps... your right I shoulda used Firearms instead .. I'm an Eagle and should know better....

Again back to the "Unintended Consequences" of the law.

The way I read it the only end run around it would be for the council to put the firearms into a trust type situation and then place folks in the trust that can transport them and "supervise" them . otherwise stuck in that stupid 72 hour rule.

But I'm no lawyer and this is just my reading of the law.
