    Default Onion Storage

I'm asking all food preppers for advice: how do you store your onions? Mine keep going bad, and I'm getting really frustrated. I'd love to be able to keep my Sweet Vidalias and brown onions for more than a week without them turning black and nasty.

I've got an onion crock- it doesn't help. I keep them away from apples, don't keep potatoes, keep them in a dark place in their mesh bag... what am I doing wrong?

Make sure they're not bruised and they can't be resting against each other. Think like eggs are packed not potatoes in a sack.

Cool dry place. 6 months unless they're a sweet variety.

Or slice em and dehydrate them. They're very good at dehydrating in dishes.

    Personally I hate onions.

I keep mine in the crisper drawer in the fridge-they seem to last quite a few weeks.

    Thank you!

I've tried to make sure there is no bruising, but it never occurred to me that they should not rest against each other.
I do have a dehydrator, but there's something about the taste of fresh onions (or sauteed) that makes the dish.

I've tried that, but I found they absorb flavors from the foods in the fridge.

I slice/dice them, then put them in a zip lock in the freezer. For long term storage, a dehydrator would be the way to go.

I'm going to try keeping them in a ziplock with a paper towel. I don't think I used a ziplock in the fridge; if I recall correctly, it was simply the plastic bag that I grabbed in the grocery store to bag them up.

Freezing and dehydrating are good options, too.

Thank you for all the advice!
