yep, lost creek wilderness is your best bet. dry, reasonable terrain. take goose creek trail to the old cabins at the fork about five miles in. there is a nice river there you can wade in, fish in, get water, etc. from there you can hike to the old crank shaft or just around. beautiful red boulders and weird rock formations, nice rock caves and places to set up camp and the trees are plentiful but sparse enough you can actually walk through them easily to find nice views and stuff. not a terribly far drive either.
