Dear Members,
The new house has been acquired! Now the part that is troubling:
should we get cable or satellite? Please discuss.

Just doing what I can to stay on this side of the dirt.
Neither. You're in Texas - go shoot something, BBQ it, and eat it. :-)
What can you get the better deal on and which one has the channels you want?

hahaha
You don't work for E* do you?
I have both, 15 years with Dish, hate CenturyLink(Qwest) with a passion, so Xfinity (Comcast) for internets and phone. Ridiculous costs, but I want my crazy fast internet and like Dish too much to change.
I'm actually considering dumping Dish altogether though and just going OTA and Netflix/streaming. I just can't invest in all the new gear right now.

If you need the ultraweb and you LOVE tv I'd say cable. If you are a casual tv viewer and don't need tons of bandwidth, I'd go dish and phone. Also depends on age of the area, newer/less ghetto areas have better cable service. Your stuck with DirectTV if you need the NFL package.
I just have a antenna for over air broadcast. DSL for internet, get my TV from internet. Mainly Netflix for $8 a month, plays off my BluRay player and wireless router.
No cable here! Satellite or nothing! No problems if I keep the snow brushed off the dish ; probably something you won't have to worry about.
I'm in the process of moving from DirectTV to an antenna. I bought a Mac Mini and a dual over-the-air TV tuner and am going to use the Mac as a DVR instead of the DirectTV DVR. I'm 50 miles from the TV broadcasting antennas and I get a perfect picture on all the networks. Planning to cancel my satellite service in July when my 2-year contract is up. I'll save $75/mo.
