I search the forum and didn't see anything on this scope so here I go.

I have a Sig 716 Patrol 16" and have been thinking of putting the Nikon M-308 on it. Price is around $500 with mount. Anyone ever use this scope on a AR-10 style platform?

I have done some research and it seem to look ok for the cost. I have also downloaded the Spot On app and it looks to be pretty cool.

Thanks....

No love for Nikon. Guess I'll buy one and give my opinion.

Nixon is great glass for the money, I don't have any experience with the model you noted but I have a Monarch and Buckmaster that have served very well.

Thanks for the info. I've always used Leupold and or cheaper scopes.

I plan on mounting the M-308 on my Smith. If you want to mess with one, bass pro has one on display.

Mod. I understand this is an optic question but it is related to the AR10. Sorry if I put this in the wrong place.

I have the Nikon M-223 with a 600 yd BDC on my AR-15 and love it. I have it on a Larue LT104 mount for easy mounting. M-223 is definitely worth the price tag (which I think is fairly reasonable). I haven't had the opportunity to reach out to 600yds, but I was shooting a 9.5 inch group at 450 yds prone from a bipod. The magnification adjustment on mine is a little stiff, but I really like the 2-8x magnification flexibility.

Hope this helps a little.

I have the same rifle and debating an optic for it currently. Did you buy the M-308 and if so how do you like it? What mag did you go with? What mount?

I haven't pulled the trigger on the M-308 yet. Sorry. I got side tracked with another project.

I have MUCH love for Nikon! I have three Nikon scopes that are wonderful, and Nikon is the only camera brand I'll own. Nikon's reputation for quality optics is long and solid. I cannot speak about that particular scope and application however, but if it's a scope they designed for .308 use, you'll probably be happy.

That is the one i am looking at too for my s&W. I know they are calibrated for certain bullet weights, so if you use a heavier or lighter bullet how much does that affect the zero? It looks to be the same for the m-223 and p-22, both of which im looking at for my other rifles.

I hope I can help you make up your mind on the M-308 scope. I have put more then 500 rounds down range using both the BDC reticle and Rapid Action Turret. My long range shooting has been limited to 500 yards but let me tell you, this scope makes accurate shooting a whole lot easier. Now let me tell you I do some free lance work for Nikon but I promise you that if this scope didn't do the job you wouldn't have me tell you how well it works. Built on the MONARCH platform the
M-308 4-16 gives you plenty of magnification to make those long range shots. If you use the BDC 800 option, dial in your ammo and scope with Spot On to get the greatest accuracy. Honestly, if it didn't work and work well I wouldn't be telling you it did.
I have one on my AR-10 and one on a bolt action .308. Both are proven performers. If I can answer any questions regarding Nikon optic's feel free to drop me a note.

I also love the Nikon systems--they come with a ballistic reticle and target turret in almost all their optics--even the 2X pistol scope which I consider to be the gold std. in 2X pistol scopes. Honestly I'm not crazy about the circle BDC reticle system, but it works very well in almost all applications that I've used it in. Ian McMurchy from longrangehunting.com designed that reticle a number of years ago, and it works. All the std. BDC circles are ~2 MOA in diameter which works great for precision applications to most normal ranges, and by using the post subtensions vs. circle subtension you can get fairly accurate interpolating windage at longer distances.
