If the magazines didn't even exist prior to July 1st it's going to be pretty easy to prove you didn't own them prior to July 1st. Hence why I was hoping to see Magpul bring them last night even if in pre-production form because that would then be one more magazine on the pre-July 1st list making it difficult to prove we didn't own any beforehand.
IMHO: Enforcement attempts will be weak ...even against real criminals.

Eh....
If a criminal act is commited with a magazine they can 100% prove was acquired after July 1st they'll charge it just to save face. My opinion, anyway....
Right now the sheriffs are catching flack from the libs. They're being misquoted as saying they're going to refuse to enforce the law. That isn't true. They've simply said it's unenforceable.
But, to save face, I believe they will charge it if they have to.
My two cents.

Yesterday, the Sheriff of Weld County clearly said he wouldn't enforce the magazine ban

So if one where to live in another state and own magazines over 15 rounds and they relocated to Colorado can they bring those with them? Might have to move home with my folks in PA for a while when AK PMAGS to on sale?
Unless they are setting up road blocks at the state border there's no way to enforce the law. The burden of proof is on them, not you.

Not entirely true. Since the AK47 Pmags didn't even exist before the bills took effect it's actually quite easy to prove you weren't in possession prior to the law taking effect... they didn't exist yet. I still have yet to see anything that says definitively that you can move here with banned items and be grandfathered in. I understand the laws differently in that only those who live here NOW that are in continuous possession are grandfathered.

Yes, obviously in those cases it would be easy to prove. But, do you think prosecutors will know to check release date? I wouldn't want to test the theory, however.

As far a pmags are concerned it will be very easy to prove when they were made, and only take a few seconds, they are all marked with a manufacturing date. You may get lucky and find some made before the ban for a couple of months but after that you are out of luck. Kind of hard to say you previously owned a mag that has a later manufacturing date. Scratching off the date is an automatic guilty. I have not sen any marks on the metal mags but most plastic I have seen have marks.
The situation where you move out of state, buy some ak mags, and move back, they would not be legal, you were not in possession of them before the date.
Handguns pose the same problems, the serial number will lead to a manufacturing date so buying them out of state does not get around the law. If the geniuses who came up with this crap decide to really push things there is no easy work around to it. If they get a judge who will blindly sign warrants based on lets say a neighbor saying you have illegal guns and they search your house and run the numbers on all your stuff they will find out if they are illegal or not. If this law does not get kicked out it will only get worse, they will just make more laws to make it enforceable. They are just trying to get their foot in the door.

I like to stipple my mags, am I committing a crime if I do so over the date? Don't think so.

I wouldn't want to be the test case on that !!!
The date is like a 'serial number' for the mag.

You are not committing a crime by obscuring the date on the mag. You are merely providing evidence for the prosecutor to show the jury that you knew the magazine was illegal.

Cities like Denver, Boulder and Aurora are probably already trying to figure out how to enforce this law. If anything they will try to hang people up in the legal system and make it cost thousands to get your mags back.

How do you figure on that? Where is the proof? If you say bought a handgun like a Glock 17 (like I plan on doing soon) that come standard with a now illegal 17-round magazine, but you somehow have some 17 rounders, how do they prove you didn't have the foresight to purchase the mags prior to buying the gun and prior to the law going into effect? Like I did.

I know more than a couple of people that bought Pmag's (prior to July 1st) that don't own an AR15.
Get the mag now, the gun later.

What are you referring to as an illegal gun? A Glock 17 purcahsed today does not make the pistol illegal. I can still have 17rd Glock mags in my possession and a Glock 17 purchased after July 1st and be in compliance with the law.

Grayson Robinson, sheriff for Arapahoe County is on the the list of others in protest of the new guns laws, unless he recently reversed his position.

There is no law against altering a magazine and it is the prosecution burden to prove when it was manufactured. If you stippled all your mags I do not see how they could prove when they were purchased.

I don't know that that's true. I remember reading a line specifically making the alteration of the any markings on the mags against the law as well. It was after one of the first drafts because it came up during the debates and as I recall modifying the magazine in any way that obscured the markings meant that it was automatically considered a banned magazine or you could be charged with tampering with it or some such shit. I remember them adding it after the initial draft I just don't remember the words exactly. As such, I would highly advise members here NOT modify or try to grind of dates as that's akin to grinding serial numbers off a firearm according to these laws.

This is what I did. I cannot find AR15s that I can afford right now so I bought a few 30 round mags a few months ago.
With millions and millions and millions of mags manufactured before yesterday, compared to all 18 that have been manufactured today and yesterday, what are the chances of finding a pre 7/1/13 mag?
Insert panic smiley.

I thought there were provisions for that, yet another aspect of the law that is pretty uneforceable

I will let you know after this weekend. I am leaving town for the 4th and there is a big sporting goods store (soon to be opening in CO) that I am going to visit.
