..what I believe was a very clean B17 low fly over my house near Carter Lake. Anyone know if there is a air show or something going on near here? I'd like my boys to see some of that older porn.

*Disclaimer: it could have easily been another plane from that era.

CORRECTION: according to the web, seems to have been an Avro Lancaster.

Saw it yesterday along with a p51 mustang flying.

They usually come out to the Loveland Airport and do shows/tours. You can fly in them if you like. You're gonna pony up some $$$$ though.

That would be cool to see.... we saw one flying around Denver a month or so ago....it was giving tours to folks. Probably the same one I think.

I'd pony up some mad coin if they'll let me man the gun.[UZI]

That would be fun indeed.

Seems like none of the vintage planes ever fly around or even close to Trinidad. Guess our hayfield landing strip is not large enough to accommodate any of these big ones anyhow. [BooHoo]

A British Avro Lancaster? I believe that would be a rare sighting indeed.

From some quick Googling, it seems there are only 2 flight worthy Avro Lancasters in the world.

I flew on the B-24 several years ago. Missed it by one week the first year, second year we were taxiing and got a flat tire and couldn't fly, finally got to fly the third year. My grandpa was a navigator on a B-24 with the 5th Air Force 90th Bomb Group (The Jolly Rogers) in the Pacific.

One of the guys on the plane with me had his father with him flying. He was a mechanic on B-24's in Aus in WWII. He showed me pictures from WWII and wouldn't ya know it there he was with B-24's from the 90th Bomb Group. Fun time on the plane and meeting this gentleman.

It's The Collings Foundation (http://www.collingsfoundation.org/menu.htm) that owns and flys the planes. If memory serves it is the only B-24 that is still flying.

Here is a quick video from my flight. This video has the B-17 flying along side of us. Kind of a shaky video, they are not the smoothest flying planes.

Stay calm my friends......

It's just Mayor Bloomberg and his bitch "Lickin-Pooper" conducting a survey.

Carry on, nothing to see here...

Saw the B-24 today.

When I'm rich I'm buying a p-51 mustang.

Years ago did some avionics work on a B-24. That was very cool to really get in the guts of a plane that was 30 years older than I was.

I love those old bombers. It's on my bucket list to get on a flight one of these days...

Yep, I saw it too. I live in the NW side of town near the foothills and it flew north to south along the ridge. We just happened to be out back with the in-laws when it flew over. Very cool sight. I couldn't imagine seeing dozens of those fly over with ill intentions. Yikes!

My son and I went out today and saw the planes. I was really touched how interested my 16 yr old become when he got there and started seeing the stuff. Even seen him drop a couple singles in a donation jar. (Proud dad here)

Semi offtopic, but for WW2 plane lovers. There's many flight sims and such out there. But for gamers, there is a pretty good one out there. Works really well with just mouse/keyboard. Can do flight stick I think or gamepad. Has arcade mode that's like it sounds as well as "historic" and full real battle modes that do let you rip off wings if you go too fast/bank. Called War Thunder. (Also a World of Warplanes, in open beta, but last I saw was pretty terrible.)

If you youtube the game, there's a Brit or Canadian guy that does videos with comments both about the game and history.

Also I saw it too in Milliken.

Saw one at EAA Air Venture a few years ago, rare indeed. Was amazed that it carried almost three times the bomb load that the B-17 did.

I need to save up and do a flight on the B24, my grandfather was a navigator on one flying the Britain to France and Germany routes. Him being on a plane was one of the reasons I wanted to work on aircraft in the Army.

Dave, it is so worth the $450 or whatever it is now. Flying in that plane for 30 minutes was truly one best half hours of my life. Having that little bit of to experience what my Grandfather did is amazing when you think what it was like for these men in the 1940's. Do whatever you need to do to get on that plane, rob a 7-11, work Colfax, I promise it will be worth it.

WestPac Restorations, a group of retired Air Force officers, and some aviation aficionados recently opened the National Museum of World War II Aviation, in the Springs. I have yet to take the tour, but was in the facility for a rally recently. As I understand it, part of the tour takes you through the restoration facility, and I get the impression the guys working on the aircraft are into answering questions.

I'll take my boys over before the summer ends and report back.

Also, the museum on Peterson is excellent if you can get in. We had a retired Msgt give us the tour of building, He just hung out and talked to my sons like they were his grandkids. Educated them on working in the silos and all they inside. Great stuff.
