Does this open the door for possible lawsuits (from a victimized gun owner or from a victimized non-gun owner, "incorrectly" reported as such)?

Can you imagine if someone made an app that tracked "Single mothers that don't always lock their doors"? The outrage? The lawsuits?

To my relief, it didn't report anything to me. I later showed this program to my mother, but when I opened the app, I was absolutely shocked to find out that someone had reported my mother as the owner of an "SKS" assault rifle! My mother never touched a gun in her life! This app is nothing but libellous, bald-faced LIES!!! Shame...

Along the lines that others have said, I think that there should be an app made that specifically locates non-gun owners. This would prevent would be robbers from getting shot when breaking into a house where guns may be present. It would be working in the exact same realm as the other app so the really could not cry foul. It would save lives man!

Spent all day yesterday driving around and marking random spots (schools, churches, Starbucks, grocery store)..

The person in charge of this has no concept how security works - there is a modification in the works to randomize your android UUID so they can't just ban one person's inputs.

In her defense on this one, perhaps she was raised or is currently practicing Judaism. The Jewish faith does not allow their followers to even type the name of God in any form so you'll often see them use "G-d" instead.
