So never thought it'd be an issue. But getting too much humidity in my unfinished basement. Or at least my ancient roomate claims he smells mildew which would be far too soon to have I think. Either way I do have a 125 gallon, 55gallon, 30gallon tanks all running. Soon should be less than that. Also during the setup process was plenty of spilled/dripped water. So if I'm lucky it will subside on it's own.

If it doesn't, I was wondering about de-humidifiers which I don't know anything about? I know AC does that somewhat, and I opened the vents in the basement this morning. The centra ac unit is in the basement. Do they have units specifically for this that aren't outrageously pricey?

One other option is if I can get glass or clear acrylic cut for the tank tops. (Big one would be 3 plates roughly 18x22) I need those to allow as much light transmission as possible to not interfere with the coral lighting. If it's not precut/presized, does lowes/home depot sell glass cut to custom size for not an arm and leg? (One drawback is worried about this dropping PH which already suffers in basement, though with skimmers that helps a lot so may not matter.)

Dehumidifiers are hard to find here to find here because of low demand, but you can get Ace Hardware to order one for you. We bought two at the Ace employee sale when my son in law worked for them.

Our house is old and located close to the river, so we have a lot of humidity. In the spring and summer, I was emptying about 2-3 gallons a day out of the unit. Both of the units quit working because of bad switches, I think. I either need to fix them or get another one.

Everything is available on amazon, including dehumidifiers.

Having grown up on east cost I hate humidity and would buy one in a second if need be. Part of the reason ill never live in a house with a swamp cooler.

I've got a dehumidifier for free if you want to come pick it up.

Completely un true. They're used for flood restoration and growing pot. Find a grow shop

I tried just storage box lids. Cut down on my evap considerably. Sadly realized with a glass cover, I'll get fog/salt creep so I'd have to like squeegee the plates daily and possibly still face light transmission problems... Reading elsewhere I'm also concerned about how much power one would draw?

Is there an easy method of actually measuring my humidity $ down there? I've been going off my roomate bitching, but he also bitches about everything and can't find the outgoing mail slot and thinks a half onion by bed wards off the flu.

You can get a basic humidity gauge at a pet store for $5, in the reptile section.

Once a day should be more than enough, and your ato wouldn't work as much.

you can also do a dry bulb and wet bulb temps and do a little math, a sling psychrometer would help but not necessary, just use a thermometer with a bulb on the end swing it around and read the temp then do it again but put a wet cotton ball on the bulb this time for the wet bulb temp. just follow this guide http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/humidity-measurement-d_561.html
