View Full Version : Any ammo can experts in here?
Doesn't have to necessarily be an ammo can, but some sort of metal, water-proof, military type container.
What I am looking for is something about 30 - 40 inches long, about 12 inches wide, and probably 8 - 12 inches tall.
Trying to install a permanent "dry box" on the back of my ATV that will hold all of my crap.
I know the "box full of stuff" that was going around was a bit larger than your usual ammo can and was hoping I could find something similar.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Those are a bit small for my needs. [Awesom]

Thanks. That's pretty close. The length is great, the height is good, but it might be a bit wide (19") to fit on my rack. I supposed I could modify the rack a bit.
The closest thing I have come across so far is an 81mm ammo can. Like this one...

120mm mortar can catches 2 dimensions, short on one.

I have one out at Steps' house if you wanna test fit.

That would be a good fit for where I want to put it but it would basically be mounted on its side. Not sure I want to have to load stuff into it from the ends.
Thanks for the input.

I have a "2.25 inch Rocket Container" dated 1952 that measures 29" long, 11" wide and 11" tall. I use it as a tool box. Methinks it might work for ya. Search for one of those.
Check out Alameda Surplus, around Alameda and Zuni, the have some nice containers.

That's just about perfect. I'll have to look around online for one tonight.
Thanks. [Awesom]

Check with Ammo Can Rick down in Colorado Springs, he's always got lots of surplus stuff listed on Craigslist. Might be a long drive, but he's got tons o' stuff. He'd be the first one that I'd check with anyway. 719-314-9518

Take a little trip to almost any ATV dealership and talk to the parts guys, they will know where to search for what you want. Especially a Polaris (not Victory) dealer, they make everything for those ATV/Utility enthusiasts.

Yeah, that's why I'm looking for an ammo can. Actual hard trunks made for ATVs are usually $200 or more. I'm a bit of a cheapskate. I figure a good ammo can should keep my stuff clean and dry at a fraction of the cost.

Too funny.
Just got a PRM rack for the Renegade from UPS today, and just got home from the shop from retro fitting a ammo can to it. Obviously much smaller than you need, but in the same boat.
