I wonder, what is the fastest way to get the most number of CU students on tubes and into the creek?
Oh yea, send out an Emergency Alert saying the creek flow is up to 5k cuft. Any true Boulderite will know that in the spring time, the snow melt makes the creek flow at a max of 500cuft and that is some of the best tubing, so 5k cuft should be EPIC!

To a point. A tornado area was something we did discuss, but WINDSOR [LOL]TORNADO. Never. Till 5 years ago. Same for the 45 min hail storm. When your number is under the arrow on the roulette wheel. it doesn't matter if you're under Cheyenne Mtn. Shit happens, we have no control over.
BUT, in agreeing with your context, every time we drive somewhere. It's "hey that's a nice location for a house" Good field of fire, nice elevation for spotting threats at a distance, off the main road etc.

Yep...
We really considered location. Top of a mountain, good view, low flood danger. Near paved roads. Facing east, but good southern exposure for snow melt.
Property in good location for survivability of forest fires. Many escape routes in case of natural disaster. House construction good for snow, water, and other issues.
But shit if every road isn't destroyed from these floods.... Who woulda thought?

Don't flush your crapper if you're in Evans.
Today was crazy! This morning I heard on the radio that HWY 74 from Evergreen to Morrison was closed- so I figured I was okay to go North (WB) on 74 to get to I-70 from S. Evergreen... WRONG! They were turning people back at EVFD Station 1 (if not sure, look at google maps). I had to be at Rooney Valley LE Range by 7:45 and had to go almost to Conifer to get on 285, then take 470 to Morrison Rd to Rooney Rd. Made it in time for range time, but damn, talk about going the long way around.
Then driving back from training this evening hit a massive storm in Lakewood between Youngfield and C470- 2-4 inches of standing water on I-70. Downtown Evergreen is still closed, the dam is over flowing, the park below the dam is gone, and the bar just beyond there got flooded. Evergreen didn't get hit that hard, but what we got hit with sure did some bad damage to Bear Creek. Hope everyone is staying safe and dry- ANG troops deployed up north yesterday to aid with the evac. Hope no one lost their guns in the flood...

I tried getting home as I've been on the road the last couple days, got about 2 miles from the house and hit the road block. It's sounding like my house so far hasn't been affected, but all roads in and out are closed. The most comforting info I've gotten is that the shelter is the middle school about 2 blocks from my house so hopefully my issues with all of it are limited to having to do some shopping for some clothes and checking into a hotel for the weekend or at least until the roads open.
I'm kicking myself in the arse for having pulled my go bag out of the work truck earlier this year and not getting it back in there. I had used some of the clothes in it on a road trip that went longer than expected so I pulled it out to wash the clothes and re-pack it and never got it back in the truck. Needless to say, that's getting done first thing when I get back home and it's probably going to be done in a bigger bag and have MANY items added to it.

I had to take the "back way" from my house today because the main road was getting a new culvert installed by the County. The rain washed a giant gully across the road.
I head down the back way (unmaintained road - basically a trail) and suddenly the car stops like a fly hitting fly paper, I see a wave of mud flow in front of me and I feel the car sink. I literally said out load "What the F*** just happened?" It was like driving into a swimming pool. The road was totally saturated, like quicksand, and knee deep.
I had to slog through the crap in my work clothes, hike back home, call in to work to tell them I wouldn't make it, and enlist a few neighbors to help me out.
In short, we got it dug out after 4 hours of slogging around in the muck. My back is killing me and the car is out - undamaged I should add.
Hey, I'm lucky. Many folks are WAY worse off.

Hey let me know if you manage to find a way in. (PM or whatever.) I'm in same boat, I live over on tamera near the school west end. Problem is one window well was retaining water despite not being in flood area. Was leaking first day but receded. Couldnt get home yesterday morning at 8am and had basically 24 hours to fill and leak and I have power strips down low for very expensive saltwater reef tanks.....
From milliken police FB, I was able to get in this way to top off my saltwater tanks.
There is now one route to get in and out of Milliken. You must take WCR 46.5 (Green Street) west to WCR 19. WCR 19 south to WCR 38. WCR 38 west to WCR 13. WCR 13 south to WCR 34 or WCR 24 west to I-25. The main roads out of town (HWY 60, Hwy 257, and Two Rivers Parkway remain closed at this time and an estimated time for them to be reopened is unknown. In many cases the roads are badly damaged or washed away.
Pretty easy as many of the turns are blocked.

We live in Eldorado Springs, probably the only rental home in the valley. We're about a mile from 93 about 2 to 3 miles from the town of Eldorado Springs. Thursday around 5pm it got really bad. We either experienced a Flash Flood or a dam broke as the water came rushing down the road and through our yard. We had knee deep water out front and the sump pump would not turn on so the basement crawlspace started filling. I have 3 kids, ages 5, 9, and 18, a wife, and a 96 year old grandmother in the late stages of multi-infarct dementia so needless to say, evacuating was the last thing I wanted to do.
We moved our bug-out bags to the back of the 4 Runner and positioned it along with the Tacoma on high ground ready to go. Lucky for us we're about 2 feet higher than the next property, they were 100% flooded out. By 7pm the water had risen and the water was 13 feet from the front door. My son and I shoveled like mad men, luckily we had a huge pile of gravel left over from a project and we made our stand. I made the kids sleep in their clothes and we readied to go. I stayed up until 4:30am monitoring the situation. The water in the crawlspace was 6" from the top and I still could not get the sump pump to turn on.
By sunlight I had 4" of room in the crawlspace and I started calling every hardware store between here and Thornton looking for a sump pump. I tried to post here but couldn't figure out any of the test, although I could hear the Jeopardy music in my head. Finally at 2pm Home Depot got a shipment of 200 sump pumps and I broke several speed laws getting there. There are about 25 people in front of me and nobody can tell us how many they have left. Then this 20something kid walks over and says "I have a sump pump and hose I purchased yesterday I'll sell" so I reply "Would you be selling the pump for more than you paid yesterday?" and he smiled and said "Yes". Several people on the line looked like they wanted to jump the rope and rip his throat out so I said "You know...in some parts of the country you'd get shot for trying to profit from a disaster" He tries to shrug it off and says "Glad that's not here in Boulder" to which I say "Are you sure?" he then proceeds to run out of the store and I got a round of applause from the crowd and several pats on the back.
The pump is still going.....just a few more inches.

I couldn't find this on the FB page but decided to give it a shot and it is open. Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm still going to go back to the hotel because work is in a bad place with the washouts and I'll need to be as mobile as possible and they say they're going to close that route if the water starts rising again.

My family's cabin in Estes is fine but we were told that we would not have water or sewer till mid November.
It will take them at least that long to get some form of road structure in place.
Our cabin on the Middle St. Vrain Creek is 24' from the river bank. At flood stage the roar of the river is tremendous. At night, every few seconds I can hear and feel the thumping of boulders against rocks as they roll down stream. There's going to be some major displacement from this flood. Large trees have fallen across the river creating dams and diversions.
In the '69 flood, the St. Vrain below Camp Dick changed course to flow through older channels in the willows above the glacial moraine. The changed course, along with beaver activity formed many ponds full of brookies. Some of those ponds have now refilled with peat and silt, making them higher and restricting water flow. In a few days we should see if the river has changed course again to the rocky channels of the 1960's.

The is some conflicting info between Evans Facebook and the city webpage.
From the city webpage that I intend to abide by "All businesses and residences east of 35th Avenue are now allowed to flush toilets and shower, but are being asked to conserve water for now, which means being cautious about laundry and dishwasher use until further notice. Watch for more information about the "NO FLUSH" situation on the FAQ page as updated."

I'm assuming it's just due to the amount of water used. The average washing machine uses 40 gallons of water from what I read so I think they're trying to not have the system inundated right off the bat.
