I'm sure all the instructors are just fine, but are thet are any standout places that offer the CCW class?

I'm looking in the south Denver, possibly as far south as CSprings for the best bang for the buck.

Valhalla has the best training video I've ever seen, I imagine their classes must be phenominal.

I took a Combat Focus Shooting course from Rob Pincus (formerly Valhalla) now new company is ICE Training. It was fantastic!! Well worth the money and even better than the dvd's make it look.

For up north of Denver look up Big American Man. Raydog runs a hell of a class.

I took my Basic Pistol CCW course with Ken Evridge. He runs the classes out of his home in Pine, and uses a small (public) outdoor range south of pine (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=39.329876,+-105.251502&sll=39.329667,-105.250654&sspn=0.007071,0.013819&ie=UTF8&ll=39.330878,-105.251513&spn=0.007071,0.013819&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr) for the field exercises. Great guy, and a great course!! Very low stress. Got his name/number from the guys at Green Mountain Guns when I bought my Glock.

It's been a few years since I took my class, so I don't know if he's doing it anymore, but here's the info I have:

Ken Evridge, PO Box 369, Pine, CO 80470 ... 303-816-0831

At the time he also offered advanced classes and night classes, but again, I don't know what his current class offerings are. His prices were also VERY reasonable!

+1 for Profire, particularly if you want to get Utah as well.

If all you're looking for is Colorado, you might check out RMGO.org , they offer whart i am told is a very good 1 night course, $100 for non members, or $75 for members (membership is $25, so it's basically a no brainer).

I'm looking for a class, even during the weekdays, that has the classroom and range requirements for the CCW, near Denver? All these options, it seems some have the range time seperate?

I don't want a lot of gun handling, I'm going to take some dedicated multi-day handgun classes. I mainly want a top notch classroom/legal presentation that will keep my borderline ADD personality engaged.

How are the classes at Firing Line or Green Mountian ranges?

Myself, friends and family, neighbors have all taken the classes from this group...http://www.thepdi.org/ $75 and 4 hours... good training, not all about "the trainer"... just what you need to know.

KC- That looks interesting. I noticed in the CCW class description that it says you don't need range time for the CCW permit? Is that true? What if you live in Denver are they more stringent? I thought you needed range time, or am I getting that mixed up with what I knew for Ohio?

no range time required here... it's a state law, denver has no choice in requirements that I know of...

Took the class last night.

Dan has a really nice delivery and is really personable. Not the common gun-guy bullshit. He goes over the basics of guns and ammo, but that is only about 45 minutes. He went over the basics of holsters and concealment. Some guy was asking all kinds of questions if his 10 speed was a "means of conveyance" and so could he store a gun in it. (Maybe if it had lockable side compartments like a real motorcycle.)

He went over basic shoot/no-shoot scenarios along with the progression of "go-away", to "I'm armed", to having to shoot. He went over the "Shut-up" and wait for your lawyer. He talked about NRA membership and how for $68/year you can get $500k of legal coverage. There are places in Denver at 2am that he wouldn't go with out air cover. He has more handguns than the "Professional", and he says that if on the way out of the buildinf after the class, he sees something he doesn't like in the parking lot, he's calling the cops.

I thought the strongest part is his finish. As he gets closer to the end it becomes more evident that he has at least once had to shoot someone. That kinds of takes the "Dirty Harry" and bravado out of the class as he goes over the moral, psychological, and legal realities if you have to shoot. He does it with out being over the top.

Really good class. Makes me want to take the legal seminar he offers, practice draws, run more than a couple boxes of my JHP thru my gun before carrying it, learn a hand-to-hand martial art, get a dog, carry a lawyers card, and hug my wife and kids everytime before I leave the house.
