View Full Version : Man fired for thwarting robbery with legally carried gun
Workplace policies prohibited self defense...

I'm torn on this. It's an employer's right to set whatever policies they wish, but he was obviously endangered, and the employer had nothing in place to protect him from injury. It's not much comfort to know that your heirs may be able to sue if you are prevented from defending yourself at work...
I'd rather be fired and alive then some other alternative.

Me too.

Agreed.
I really wished I owned a business in Nashua so I could hire this guy.
Waiting for anyone that gave me shit and calling me a hypocrite for not honoring a property owner's rights (theaters specifically) to carry and protect myself.
I'm not going to lay down and die for anyone's misguided policy. They have the right to post a policy, as a licensed person I have the right to disregard it for my own safety.
TFOG might fire you if you didn't carry :)

This..! Employer may have no option due to its liability insurance. To live another day is good!
He works for a Shell gas station, who cares about that job.
Might be the best thing that ever happened to him and he's ALIVE. [ROFL3]

Hey Jim!
Hey Mike! How is the recovery coming along?
I wouldn't fire someone for not carrying if they had a good reason...

Employer has the option of another insurance company. They choose to have that policy, probably to save money and not because they don't like guns.

This x1000. I could give a shit about company policy about firearms. When leaving my house I always have a CCW. Plus, I'm not going to use a firearm in defense of my company's property. I will only use it if my own life is in immediate danger, or that of a coworker.

Shell is a big company. They are big enough to push insurance companies around and get any coverage they want. They just choose to have cheaper premiums
Extremely similar story to a year (or so) ago about the AutoZone employee who went out to his car and retrieved his gun during a robbery and potentially saved his manager's life... I believe we discussed this in pretty great detail.

Employers like dead helpless employees, less obamacare premiums.
ZERO THEORY

Lest we forget the Auto Zone employee who was fired for the same.

EDIT:
Ronin beat me to it.
I have always looked at it in the light, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. I would trade the job for my life.

One of my favorite quotes! True statement right there. You can't defend your actions from the grave.

It's not really as simple as that. However, it doesn't matter, as none of the commercial policies I ever sold said anything about if employees could carry weapons on company property. I seriously doubt the insurance policy has anything to do with it.

especially shell. 1% savings could be millions of dollars of savings a year in insurance premiums.
This thread make me so angry because many companies including the Hypocrites "Pro Guns" have the same stupid policies for their employes, Actually Bass Pro Shops have this stupid policy too, absolutely No Guns from employes, no matter if is conceal o leaved in your locker.
