View Full Version : Can we boycott the NFL already?

I've long had issues with professional athletics ... not with the athletes or the fans or any of that, but with the Professional Athletic Organizations themselves (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc). I see them as corrupt, crony capitalist organizations that build their stadiums with wealth stolen from the people via taxes on land stolen from the people via imminent domain. They're a part of the "circuses" in the "Bread and Circuses" to keep the people distracted while the leviathan state slowly eats us.

Anyway, The NFL ... for the last couple of Super Bowels (yes I spelled it wrong on purpose) the NFL has run ads from MAIG supporting gun control.

2012

This year Daniel Defense tried to buy a spot on the Super Bowel but were refused because the NFL are a bunch of leftard blissninnies married to the Demonrat party and their agenda.

The BS excuse given is here in their advertising guidelines (http://compassmedianetworks.com/images/sports/forms/nfladvertisingpolicy.pdf) (PDF at link):

5. Firearms, ammunition or other weapons are prohibited; however, stores that sell firearms and ammunitions (e.g., outdoor stores and camping stores) will be permitted, provided they sell other products and the ads do not mention firearms, ammunition or other weapons.

Daniel Defense's obviously evil and over the top ad supporting giving machine guns to children on Ritalin and letting them murder their little friends.

Note that nowhere in here am I demanding that the NFL be forced by law to stop running MAIG ads or start running pro-gun ads, so the first person that comes around here whining about the first amendment can just shut up now lest you look foolish. Yes, they have every right to dress all the teams up in rainbow uniforms, change all the team names to the titles of Noam Chomsky essays and donate all their profits to Earth First. But as customers we do have a say in what organizations we spend with the dozens of votes we cast every day with our dollars.

It will never...and I do mean never...happen because of this reason. Now if they continue to raise ticket prices you might have a case for it, but there's such a small group of people who care about the NFL's politics it wont ever gain any traction.

Oh, and Go Broncos [Beer]

I am with you Zundfolge. I do not endorse ANY pro NFL team and never will. They are all a bunch of over-paid thugs, low-life turds from the top to the bottom. That is all.

I boycotted all professional sports long ago. Not worth my time or dime.

The OP laid out rather well the reasons the NFL irritates me. They are just as profit driven as any multinational. And I wish they weren't so tied up with the government.

The reason why a boycott against the NFL will never happen is the same why the boycott against hunting in Colorado failed miserably. People do not want to forgo those things they enjoy watching (or doing) just to prove a point.

The shooting community is all up in arms about "the infringement against our rights" until their individual wants are affected. Sadly, we are not a cohesive movement.

Oh and, just like Hoser, I refuse to watch any and all "professional" sports.

Wow Zundfolge... I agree, and I know many liberals who feel the same way. Thats not an insult. I think its great when not every thing is partisan. (I was referring to the first part). Its total BS about the bias against DD.

Crony Capitolism is a huge problem.

It always bothers me when people on here cry about getting lumped in with guys like Holmes and the Newton punk who I forgot his name...and then they go and lump every single NFL player together with a couple of bad people who have made national news.

What about the tax dollars that pay for the land and many times the buildings for the stadiums and then the attendees to the game still have to pay outrageous prices for tickets? All so that they can make money off it. I could care less about the jackwagons on the field, it's the owners, and the rest of the corrupt jackholes that make all the money and have their capital investments made by the tax payers, with little to no return for the actual investors.

If they footed the bill 100% for the facilities, and then reaped the rewards, fine, but they don't.

And to top it all off, the NFL is a tax exempt organization.

crony capitalism is a problem?

Not for professional sports fans who love the idea of public $ going to fund stadiums.

Wait a minute... are you saying that grown men get paid money to play games? When did that happen?

NFL - Three and a half hours to watch 11 minutes of action.

God Bless Bob Irsay!

Problem is most of them are so called bad guys. You are not going to change my mind. The league itself has promoted the Obama agenda from day one. The league halted the purchase of the St.Louis Rams to Rush Limbaugh in 2009 because of his so called views. The NFL was all set to air Obama care commercials/propaganda all thorough its telecasts with the start of the season. Thankfully backlash stopped that. The anti gun commercials are just one of many reasons I wont drink the National Felon League koolaid. They can take thier.message and stick it up Peytons Arse.

It's real funny to see Bloomberg talking "common sense reform" , but he talks banning >16oz sodas.
To left wing nutjobs, anything they fart out of their mouth is common sense.

I'm in!

At worst, they're Communists.

At best, they're the circus that distracts the populace from what the Communists are doing.

Football and baseball are a part of American culture. People who don't enjoy them are either communists or gay. Not that I have a problem with either. To each their own.

I have a good comparison for the original post. I have these hippy neighbors who don't agree with the politics associated with the big oil industry so they occasionally boycott them by not driving their vehicles for weeks at a time. Does it mean there is something fundamentally wrong with the oil industry? Maybe. Maybe not. Who cares. Has their boycotting had any impact at all on the industry? No.

[ROFL1] haha, so great.

I disagree with the NFL's policies for sure. And I do believe that our nation is becoming one that embraces the term panem et circenses. While this is true, there are those that remain vigilant to protect our freedoms and continue to do their best to give back to this country that they love. NFL should not have tax exempt status by any means. But hey, how much time am I actually wasting by watching 16 3- hour games for a total of 48 hours a year?

Zund right on the spot as usual brother. I loved playing football and I hate watching inmates get paid millions by a league that supports Obama.

I thought I saw a story perhaps 5 years back about which head coaches actually support Obama and it was Pete Carroll and Lovie Smith. ALL of the rest were voting GOP or wouldn't say.

Having said that, the NFL has been on a terrible slide for years. It has become painful to watch. Like so many of you, I played in HS and loved it back then. Now, I'm not even sure what I'm seeing. I have no idea what a catch is (see: "Fail Mary"). I have no idea what kinds of hits are legal and not, it seems so arbitrary. RBs are not supposed to be able to drop their head and charge, but they do. Uncalled. DBs are called constantly, though, but again, arbitrarily. Replay is a disaster and I'm truly disappointed it is infecting baseball next.

Not trying to change your mind, just pointing out that by you generalizing all football players and criminals means that your right to get upset the next time someone lumps you in with Holmes or the like is hereby permanently revoked.

Just like any profession a few bad apples spoils it for the rest, just because miler got caught doing drugs doesn't make all the broncos pot heads, the truth is that a lot of these guys have only one shot in life not be a gang banger and the nfl is it.

The nfl is no different than any other multi million dollar business, you see any other business coming against the govt either, they are not going to do things that might piss off the population, you don't see daniels defense advertising during you night news or the rockies game either. My guess would be that it is the network and fcc rules in play here not the nfl, a gun commercial does not meet the ratings requirements for the potential audience

Of course the nfl is against guns, to many players shooting people, bad PR. The felon league is known for recruiting gun packing drug useing shit bags, look at the legal stats every year, rapes, murders, shooting, drug use, domestic violence etc etc. The nfl doesnt want the bad publicity so they try to make it look like they are against violence, until they draft the next raping woman beater next year. A lot of those guys couldnt get a decent job with their criminal records, why does the nfl take them back after serving time in the big house? There are some normal people I am not grouping them all in the street trash category, I just refuse to support the BS. Baseball and other sports are just as bad, if I get arrested for dog fighting and go to the pen, get drunk and run from the cops or what ever I cant buy my way out of it and I lose my job. Why they let over paid DB's get away with it is stupid.

Thats nice. How about the owners and fans pay for it themselves. Nah i guess its easier to stick guns in their neighbors face to pay for the entertainment. Now that is the American culture.

I enjoy watching football and baseball but gave up the pro versions of it long ago. Unlike others here, I have no problems with capitalism, it's the dirtbag politicians making the stupid deals for stadiums and tax exemptions to "keep" teams that are screwing the taxpayers. I have no problem with someone trying to get the best financial arrangement they can, whether it's the owners trying to get taxpayer-funded facilities or the players (stupidly) trying to go on strike. On the other hand, the majority of today's professional players seem to be pure shit and I won't support their multi-million dollar contracts. Fscking TO and Miller and Vick and Irvin and the rest of the losers can perform their antics for others, I want nothing to do with them.
