I'm sure this is just gun shop BS that I was told, but thought I'd check to see if there was any validity to this.

I was told today that if a Colorado resident obtains an out-of-state permit to carry, it would invalidate the Colorado permit.

I suspect this individual was referring to a Colorado resident not being able to carry in Colorado with a non-resident permit from another state, but someone misread the law or was misinformed. The other thing that raised my BS flag is talking about the permit being issued by the state. My permit was issued by Adams County, not the state, so I know he's a bit off on that aspect.

Wait... this was also the same person who said that a pinned magazine wouldn't be legal in Colorado as the ATF wouldn't accept it. Never mind that it's a state, not a federal law so I doubt the ATF would care...

I think there's a pattern here. If there's validity to any of it, let me know.

Obviously when I'm in Colorado I only carry the CO CHP so there isn't any confusion. The only reason I also got the Texas one was that is where I took the class and I figured what could it hurt with all the BS Colorado is doing around gun laws.

How would they even know? Sure they could find out but why would they check?

I figured as much.

Sad thing is, I was looking to do some training with this individual. This rather damages the credibility...

I know people that have a CO and a Utah CCW because it gives them extra states with reciprocity. I think the UT CCW gives an extra 7 states and UT does issue out of state permits as long as the class you took meets their requirements and you pay the $25 (IIRC) more than their instate permits cost.

I have CO, UT, and AZ. The AZ permit used to be good in Nevada, but no longer. I am looking to replace it with a ND permit which is good in Nevada.

Yup. Same here, CO first then UT. Renewed CO without any issues. Total BS. I would ask him for reference material to support his statement. What a dork.

You CAN have multiple permits as others have said. So if UT will issue an out of state permit to you, then you are good with that license except in CO if you are a CO resident. However, there have been recent changes. Here is the quote on the top of the CBI reciprocity page:

Last updated 08/22/2013

Updates are made only when there is a change to Colorado's permit reciprocity with other states. Regardless of the date of the last update, this information is current.

Pursuant to Colorado law (CRS 18-12-213), the State of Colorado will recognize a valid permit issued in another state IF the permit was issued to a resident of the state issuing the permit, and the permit tee is 21 yrs of age or older, AND the other state recognizes Colorado permits as valid in their state. Hence, a "yes" in the following table also indicates that a valid Colorado permit is recognized in that state, subject to their laws. When traveling with a Colorado permit, it is advisable to contact the state you are visiting to confirm reciprocity and to review that state's firearms laws.

The state of Colorado no longer recognizes the validity of any permit issued by any state to a nonresident of that state (see C.R.S 18-12-213 amended 2007), specifically they must be a resident of the state that issued the concealed handgun permit and must be in possession of a valid drivers license or identification card issued by that same state.

This information is also available to Colorado law enforcement through the CCIC system.

I think if you go look at Utah, you will find it is a waste if you have a CO permit. Used to be it got you 7 states, then 9, but no more. The surrounding states now all recognize CO, and Nevada no longer recognizes UT nor CO.

Utah picks up WA, MN, OH and VA from what I can tell. So 4 more, down from 9 in 2007.

You seem to be contradicting your own point. There's no "waste if you have a CO permit" if you are a CO resident. Everyone here is CO talking about other states permits.

If you want to have the permit for those other 4 states, sure, you are right. It used to get you a lot more, including surrounding states of CO. "Waste" retracted. :)

I can't find the reference, but I think UT used to get a CO holder 14 states right when shall issue started in CO.
