Went to dinner last night with the wife Went to start the jeep and nothing all lights and gauges radio work tried jumping the battery. Found the imobillizer light on at the dash. I think the transponder key went bad. The other bad is wife only has one key.
Does anyone know a locksmith on here that can program a key.or is it a dealer thing?

2007 Jeep wrangler.

Happened on my wife's Nitro. Unhook the batter for a little bit and it might reset. Worked on her car.

Ace hardware has a sign that says that they make keys with transisters.

Depending on the type of "chipped" key, you might be able to solder in a resistor on the "sensor" wire under your dash.............I don't know the jeep for sure but I know some gm cars can be bypassed this way.

I read that online. But I don't think I know where to look for that. I'm going to go try unhooking the battery for a while and see what happens.
Mite have to have it towed to the dealer

I did a quick google search but didn't find anyone saying that it was possible with that aged Jeep. Definitley something OP should look further into though.

We repaired an Olds that was having intermittent security system issues...............IIRC it was the white wire that ran underneath by the pedals, but it could be a different color for other makes, not to mention you need to know the resistance range for the vehicle in question.

With our ford that is chipped they just copied the one and only key we had and took like 5 minutes. I'll try to remember to ask my wife where we got it done....it was in the metro area but I don't remember who did it for us right now.

Call dealer. They will give you a quote. Need vain and proof of owernship. I know with BMWs they have you pay up front and then it takes a week to get one in. Chrysler isn't that bad (or as expensive either).

I googled the same all the systems point to the key. I tried push starting it won't do it. The starter doesn't click. Battery is at full charge It locks out after a while and nothing goes on. After about 3 mins. The dash lights back up checked all fuses they are good.

Not trying to be a jerk, but why on earth would you only have one key?

One of my guys locked the keys in my 09 ford van called a guy and he made a extra key with chip in it on site in 10 mins. I can't find the name of that guy

Sold to them that way is my guess. My x5 only came with one key. Usually by the third owner the car is down to one key, many times sooner.

Sorry, but I've bought vehicles with only one key, the first thing I do is get a spare or two.

I have an 08 Jk and it only came with one key. I did have a second 'dumb' one mad, that while it wont start the Jeep it will let me in if I get locked out. Standard $5 cost for it to be made. When I called to have second one made the $200+ cost seemed a bit steep for a damn key.

ACE wants 2x as much as the local lock smith that came over and reprogrammed our keys, for $50.

Call AAA if you're a member or do a search online for a locksmith .

Could be worse. Newer Porsche keys are upwards of 600 bucks.

They were able to clone mine with just one key. On my grand cherokee, if you have both keys, the car will program the new key for you

Try locking, unlocking, then relocking the passenger side door (with the physical key, not electronically).
I know, it sounds crazy and probably won't do anything, but try it.

Just an FYI. The positive battery cable on many cars / trucks. The small red wire coming off the battery control's everything but the starter. And corrosion can and will build up at the battery in the wire. Preventing any start-up. I'd check that before buying any more keys. The moving of the cable might have loosened any corrosion making contact and there fore starting the vehicle. Happened to me on 4 different vehicles.

That's the early pass key 1 system. We used to do that at the dealer. The new systems after like 96 normally use a rolling code system and I don't think it works.

Ah, good to know. I just remembered the trick from a prior job, didn't know if it would work on this application for sure or not.
