Went for a nice ride on the dualsporty yesterday, found some nice jumps, got buried in mud, and blasted through some snow. It was weird I didn't see a single bagger anywhere, it must have been too cold even with their heated seats, heated grips and windshields...https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/JasonRandom/i-DxMHxZs/0/XL/IMG_1830-XL.jpg

The frigid wind causes chafing. My bagger will stay in the garage until spring.
Looks like a blast , mine are under the covers too. Thought about putting one in the living room

Cool looking Sporty. I left the other morning on the FLH at 5:00am and it was 13 degrees. I figured with highway speeds it was around -14 with the wind chill. Needless to say I was frozen when I got to my destination.
The only time I get mine out when it's really cold is for the toy ride to Children's Hospital. The whole time I count my blessings that being frozen half to death is my biggest problem.

Probably cause i stopped riding. Unless there was ice, or (when they used it) sand on the ground, we were on 2 wheels.
What's that saying? I have more miles on my bike backing up ;)
That unit looks real nice and aggressive with those tires.
Today was a good day to be out on two wheels.

Too cold for me! I am not wanting to bring my bike back out till I do the overhaul on it to make it look all pretty again.
This is what she looks like now. You can see it's missing the lower fairings, front fender (which is one it now), and the upper fairing is cracked in the corner.
https://s30.postimg.org/d54kei4bl/zx14.jpg
And this is the goal:
https://s30.postimg.org/et7e494ld/zx142.jpg
Since a new aftermarket fairing kit is $400+/-, I figured that would be better than trying to find the missing/broken pieces. It is a 10+ year old back and I am hoping to have it looking new again for next riding season.
Too cold for me!
Agreed.
I refuse to invest in cold weather gear and I refuse to not be a pussy.

Hahaha, I understand completely. I started riding when I lived in Arizona. It took me a couple years after I moved here to get acclimated to winter riding. If the temp is above 45 and the roads are clear I get out though I don't head west.
Hope you all have safe rides in '17!
Meh your tougher than me, below 60 and I'm staying on 4 wheels.
My problem is all the gravel in the road
I've got an 08 Conc14. It's for sale in Erie BTW... :-) http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/5941363563.html

Thanks! They are a great bike. It needed a few things to get to where I wanted it but now that it's there, it rides like a 1400 should. I took out the butterflies out, dropped a tooth on the front sprocket, full exhaust, PC-V and now it's faster than a cheetah on cocaine. It brings a big smile to my face each time I twist the grip.

I guessed a 390 due to the single front rotor. No way would they have a single on the 8.
I guessed 390 because that's what it says right on the fairing.

Just put on a new exhaust-Two Brothers 2-1. Dyno numbers virtually identical to the Bassani Road Rage 2-1 but this is slightly lighter, a bit shorter and has more of a "growl" to it than the Bassani. I think the shorter length looks good on this squatty beast. Life's too short to date ugly women, shoot ugly guns or ride ugly motorcycles. [LOL]

I already removed the baffles and brushed them so ill hang onto them for a while. I kinda like the classic look and they sound great while being neighborhood friendly.
What do you mean when you say you brushed the baffles? I've never heard of that.

Nice! Love the classics Triumph's been putting out. Did you leave your credit card on file with British Customs? Helped a friend spiff up his '12 Bonnie with lots of their goodies-helped as in "hey look at these shocks/fork springs-you should get them, hey look at this exhaust and airbox eliminator kit-you should get them, hey look at the mirrors and turn signals-you should get them" LOL. Of course being the nice guy I am I offered to help with the install as well.
Seriously though enjoy, that's very nice. Time for a forum riders get together?

Yes, it's a motorcycle dolly. Makes it stupid easy to move the bike around in the garage.

I like the Aprilia bikes. They had some sort of enduros type bike years ago that I thought was sexy as hell. Fortunately, I used my better judgment and stayed away from it. While I like cool things that are just a little different, I don't like limited availability of parts and accessories.

That's my dilemma. I've got the bug again to get another bike (the past 2 years are the only 2 years in the last 30 that I haven't had a bike). I'm intrigued by the Victory line, but now that they're going out of business, seems like a bad choice. I've got the bug though.
One of you guys needs to buy a Ducati Diavel Diesel. That way I can come by and drool on it.
About to go under the knife. I refuse to pander to the industry hype and call it an adventure bike.
That said, it's getting a suspension lowering, rear bags and mounts, windshield and larger gas tank.

@Gunner - I had one , great bike (as long as it worked). The bikes have electrical bugs and the brands is not very customer sevice oriented. I had the the hardest time getting service on it and parts. Also the fuel maps on it are terrible for altitude where we live. I lost confidence in it and sold it a year after I bought it. There are better Italians out there if that is what your after...look for a nice used monster instead.

May make a small exception this year as I needed to replace a small part that fell off somewhere between here and California and may be swapping my handlebars out for something different. Also, need to do a full blown service on my bike as well as the wife’s.

Good news is that I can go 62 miles per gallon but the bad news is that the gas tank holds only one gallon! So extra gas must be taken along. No superbike here... Just an ancient 1975 350XL in good shape. I plan to do some trail riding this season. I plan to take some photos and just enjoy our beautiful state! Good news is that I can go 62 miles per gallon but the bad news is that the gas tank holds only one gallon! So extra gas must be taken along. Picked up a friend that enjoys this type of riding so looking for a great
spring/Summer season!Classic ride. Let us know here first if ever decide to get rid of it.

Sold my Ninja 1000 and picked up the bike I wanted all along. 2013 ZX14R with only 300 miles on it and light mods already done. I love this bike. I have been riding it on most days that have been above 52.
Pic with my other Kawi.
I sold my zx14 last year and I regret it. I bought it to flip it and did so; but it wasn't an easy choice. After owning 10 other 1000 rockets, the extra 400cc made it another animal. She needed quite a bit of love when I picked her up but only had 7K miles. Lots of broken or missing plastics, had been laid over on both sides and more. I decided to do a complete overhaul: full exhaust, power commander, butterfly valves removed, -1 on the front sprocket, new fairings, all new fluids, chain service, etc. Ran like a cheetah on cocaine after that. You will thoroughly enjoy that bike if you haven't already. Always brought a smile on my face if I could keep the front wheel down.

On a different note, does anyone here own a FZ09? I have been trying to convince myself to look away but I am getting the bug again.

How can you remove the butterfly valves and it still run? This is interesting to me.
Since a certain photo site got rid of my original picture I guess I get to post another one.
My bike is the one on the left and my better looking half owns the one on the right.

I should clarify, it is the secondary/butterfly valves as they call it. They sit above the primaries and only open after 3K rpm thus restricting air flow. Once removed, its WOT no matter what RPM you are in.

I have always owned rockets and now looking to get something more comfortable. For the price and the reviews, it looks like it's a hard bike to beat.

They are one sweet machine. It was posted on here and craigs but sold within a few days. I priced it considerably lower than others since it had aftermarket plastics and still some cosmetic blemishes. Keep an eye out thought, I have seen some good deals this winter for them.

The sad reality is that my bike will be going back up for sale as Spring approaches (tried to sell it too late in the season last time). I've come to realize my riding days are numbered but I do hope to get a few more rides in before it goes away.

140lbs? Jeez, I remember 4th grade....
I have only taken it out twice given it is freezing and I have never owned winter gear, but it was a kick in the ass. Coming off so many rockets, I feel like I am riding a stand up jet ski now.
Well, so much for hanging it up this spring! Just got this sweet ride last night. Wasn't intending to buy anything when I stopped by Rocky Mtn HD for a break. Saw this '13 Road King (all stock, how rare is that?!), 5k less miles than my Fat Bob, they did the 10k service and put new tires on it. Made me a deal I couldn't refuse so now it's mine. Can't get over how much more comfortable I am on it than the Dyna and having the storage is awesome (been over 10 years since I had touring type bike). Some Bassani slip-ons on the way so at least it'll sound like a motorcycle and not a sewing maching LOL. Has the detachable windscreen which I'll only use for long rides. Just extended my riding life 10 more years!

The windshield just stays on my road king all of the time. Even on shorter rides it’s still nice to not be pelted by bugs, small rocks, etc.
The only dyna I’ve ridden belongs to my dad. It’s kind of my loaner bike when I go to visit him. About a hundred or hundred and fifty miles and I’m ready to get off of it. I can comfortably do five or six hundred miles in a day on the road king.

Nice RK, Doc. In my opinion quite possibly the perfect bike. For me, anyway. I fell into the same "too good a deal to pass up" thing last year and got a 17 RK with the Milwaukee 8 motor. God I love that bike.
Nice bike, Doc! Glad you’re staying in the saddle. I was bummed out when you’d posted before about being done with riding.
Thank you all. It's amazing how this bike has changed my ability to keep riding. I felt that with the aches and pains I had after a day on the "hot rod" I was just done as much as I loved that bike. Glad I'm free this next week so I can get more rides in, especially as it gets nicer after Tuesday. I realized I need to change the grips too so I'll take care of that on Tuesday after I drop the title and Screaming Eagle Super Tuner off at RMHD. Can't wait for the mufflers to get here along with Spring LOL.
By the way the red mark on the front fender is the reflection from a car parked across from me. This bike is in immaculate condition and out of the ordinary to find one unmolested haha. Almost 49 years in the saddle, have owned most every make and like them all. This one is really fun. Wish I could've ridden more today but had the world's best 4 yr. old grandson waiting for a fun day so couldn't get as much time on. That's ok, he's worth as much of my time as I can possibly give him.
BG, I rode a RK Special this past summer when the demo truck was in town-oh my, that motor is quite nice!
With as many riders as there are here we should do a forum ride once we get in to the good weather pattern.
I feel the same about my goldwing. Of course it's about as cool as a mini van.

Congrats on staying with motorcycles . Sometimes it takes a different style or brand to keep you on 2 wheels.
If you like the RK you should have tried the Road Glide. I've owned sport & touring bmw's, Dyna, had a few baggers and choppa's over the years. My last ride was an 02 RG which, IMO, combined the best of the HD's in to one package. Throw in a moderate bit of motor work and it was a real rocking ride, be it in town or on those distance rides.
Like Ray I'm also a fan of year round windshield, you see objects hit it and go. Mmm i bet that would of hurt.
The Road Glides have always intrigued me because everyone swears they’re the best ride in the Harley lineup. I just can’t get past that 1980’s kind of vibe I get when I see that fairing. Probably should take one for a test ride and see what all of the hype is about.

How hard is it to wire lights on a dirtbike that has never had a light?
Depends on the bike. Whatcha looking at?
That's the problem. Its like a 100 cc bike with no maker markings. It reminds of a Honda but I can't find the markings. I will take a picture of it. And take this to PM, because I have a few questions about tuning up my Triumph. But the dirtbike doesn't have a battery and I don't know if there is a easy wire to fix up some LED headlights.

Got the Bassani mufflers for the King. Woohoo, nice rumble without being obnoxious haha. The end caps really compliment the look of the bike for me.
GK, the reason I got this one was because I made a killer deal and they didn't have a used Road Glide. I need to make a list of all the bikes I've had over the past 48 years lol. Not sure I can remember them all!

Good day for a ride. Met up with a couple of friends this morning, we headed up 93 to 72, in to Nederland then Estes Park for lunch. Estes was packed as expected but no problems getting in to a place for lunch (The Grubsteak, had the beef burger with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese, fries and followed it iced tea). Came back the same way, traffic wasn't bad at all as everybody was where they were headed already lol.
Took the bags off the King for the first time, each ride makes me realize it really was a great purchase.

Up Golden Gate canyon (CO 46) to Hwy 119, left turn down to Blackhawk, up through Central City , across the Central City Race...er..Parkway to Idaho Springs, short shot up I-70 to Hwy 103 up to Echo Lake, then over Squaw Pass and down into Bergen park. Right on 73 into downtown Evergreen, then on up to Conifer. South on 285 to Pine Junction, then south on 67 (watch for gravel on road north of Pine!) through Deckers and into Woodland Park. Wow! You guys are brave for going out on a holiday! I’m to the point where I only venture out on scenic rides Tuesday through Thursday. Even this isn’t a sure thing. Went over Trail Ridge to Grand Lake on a Tuesday about 3 weeks ago and it was the slowest and most traffic I’d ever seen on Trail Ridge. More and more like California every day!
I have a favorite loop I like to do at least a couple of times a year... Windsor to Estes to Grand Lake or Grandby for an early lunch. From there to Steamboat for an early dinner. Home from there via eastbound through Poudre Canyon. It’s right around 365 miles and a pretty full day. (Also has a high calorie content!)
Sounds like my wife went out for a ride today and had a good time.
Too much rain and flooding here around Houston for me to think about riding.
Nah, really didn’t have much traffic today-at least on my route.
I should get a dirt bike.
I should get a dirt bike.
Have you considered a dual sport? :)
Yeah, every day since I knew they existed. The problem with me getting a bike, is that it'd add to my hobbies that I do without my wife. I have family that lives down in Canon that I could go ride with, but other than that, I don't really have the time or room in my life for that hobby. I'd like a little 250 or something that I could put on a vehicle mount on my Amigo and take it off at the bottom of an off-road trail and let my wife drive the Amigo up.
Goodburbon
07-05-2018, 07:58
No you wouldn’t. The bike is worlds faster than an amigo going up a trail. So you’d either stop every 30 seconds of riding and wait 2 minutes for her to catch up or ride to the top and wait 30 minutes+ for her to get there ....OR you’d try to ride as slow as she’s going and wear yourself out.

There are several winners in the 250 category. Each have their own cult following. If you go with a Yamaha xt250 you get fuel injection (2013 and later). Max speed about 75mph. Can do short interstate work if needed. I'm unsure about other brands and models. Its seat height is lower, which could prove helpful for teaching the wife to ride (not sure how tall she is). FI is important for elevation changes so you aren't fiddling with a carb.
If you were to go with a used TW200, which has a max speed of about 60mph, I would recommend going with a model from the earlier to mid 90's. Those models still have a kickstarter in addition to electric start. Don't go with an '87 as their CDIs are notoriously finicky (there is an after market which addresses that -- developed by one of the guys on tw200forum.com). Other than the electronics, very little of importance has changed on the TW. The TW has a carb.
You could always buy two used. Once the summer riding season tapers off, more bikes will become available for sale. Can then do any refurb over the winter and voila, come spring you and the wife are riding.
I know there are going to be folks who swear you should get a KLR5000 that you need a crane to get on and the back tire can kick rocks into Kansas. That's cool for those guys. I really enjoy the mule-like aspect of the smaller bikes. YMMV.
If you find yourself back in the Springs anytime soon, I'd be happy to let you test ride the TW. If you get a chance, have a seat on an xt250 as well.
My wife will never ride a dirt bike.
I realize that about the difference between a bike and a truck on the trail, and that is one of the many reasons I haven't already bought one.
I'm not sure what the XT250 is like, but the TW has so much low end torque that if she stays in 1st until comfortable, she won't go more than 10mph. They're the same bike that the MSF uses for the beginner rider course. Low center of gravity and super hard to feel like you're on a rocket.
Has passenger pegs.

I had an XT. Literally why I almost gave up trail riding altogether. No torque, no balls, no suspension. It made trail riding a miserable experience if the trail got a little rough or steep. I literally rode the rainbow trail from Westcliffe to hillside, got home and asked my wife why anyone would ever do that for “fun”. The bikes Inability to hold speed on the highway for any hill or headwind made it sketchy. Literally couldn’t hold 65 going downhill on Kenosha pass. Advantage is it’s cheap and gets you on 2 wheels, so I still liked the bike. It’s cheap price, flexible frame, flimsy wheels, inadequate suspension, and lackluster power made a great learner bike, but a poor ambassador for what trail riding is like.

Well, it's not a dirtbike. I'm surprised you weren't able to top 65. I can do that on my tw200 if I don't have a headwind. I don't like to though.
Kudos though, on the first negative review I've ever really read on one. :)

Now I'd rather not ride on the street as much, so thinking on going back. Rode a buddy's CRF 250 that I liked so probably gonna go that route.
I miss my dirt bikes. Sort of.
I don’t miss loading bikes and gear in the truck, driving somewhere, unloading everything, riding, loading everything back up and driving home, unloading everything, cleaning things up and putting them away. Too much moving stuff around just to ride.

I ride my smaller enduro to the trail unless I’m bringing a friend, then we load. 3-400 mile days happen all the time and I’ve camped off the bike as well.
The Sherpa is a Kawasaki XT. Same-same. If it’s gotta be dual sport and 250
Kawasaki KLX250
Honda CRF250L (and rally)
Yamaha WR250R
KTM EXC250F

Yes. Its a 3 phase brushless permanent magnet motor.
It's going to be approximately 10KW. Completely stupid, but it should be fun.
I have to sets of the controller, motor, and batteries, and I will be buying/building a shifter kart frame for the other set.

Paint on tank is original, both fenders have been repaired and repainted. Yamaha guy rebuilt top end and overall condition is better than some I rode 40 years ago. Has quickly become my favorite in our collection.

Sweet! That should be real kick in the ass when you get on it. Reading the reviews, in the hands of most riders, the H2SX is a 'faster' bike given it has three years of development since the original debut.
When the weather gets a bit nicer, I'd love to check that thing out in person. Never seen one in the wild.
I think the original H2 is still faster, but far less refined as far as display, electronics, etc. (Smaller frame, no passenger seat etc etc)
A lot of the h2 sx forum guys all do an ecu flash from one guy that supposedly stays far away from going lean but is still a 198 > 245 ish bump in hp with a filter and maybe an exhaust which will pull it ahead of some of the 1400's that are about as fast or faster as it stock. (I was still flirting with a concourse instead as more practical for long commuting and I knew someone with a 2013 for 4,500)
Very nice! You'll have to bring it by sometime!
Very nice! You'll have to bring it by sometime!
Who do you think I'll need to tear it apart to reach the ECU? ;p
Unrelated, but on my trade ins while I came out well. Was surprised my bought at 5k, rode 1k, vulcan s got a fork seal leak recently. Hadn't ridden it much in the last year maybe 5 times including taking it to the dealer. The versys I bought tires like 1k miles ago that had been at pressure, checked at least once or twice though admittedly I rode it probably 2-3 days after it got colder without doing air, they said it had cupping. Seemed awful quick to develop that. Though the stock tires on it when I bought it at also 5k miles ish were also badly rounded.
I'll have to check, but the ECU is probably under the seat. Usually a couple of screws and a plug or 2 to get it out.
Edit: Based on the fiche, it's on the right side towards the front, probably alongside the airbox, so there will be at least a little bodywork removal to get to it. Just 1 plug, though.

Fork seal they would have for such a young bike, but they ended up leaving it alone, i had some extras on the bike and called it a wash. Ended up like 700 over what I owed so fairly close to what I paid for it a year ago

I'll never own a motorcycle. Between skiing and cycling, I know I enjoy speed WAY too much. Adding a lot of power to that would just be unhealthy.

Over the last few days I have realized that my bike doesn't seem to have turn signals. I need to test this theory, but if that is the case, I think a visit to tfogger's shop is in order.
I was always worried about turning off the errant turn signal, but if my bike doesn't have turn signals... lol.
-John
Technically you don?t need turn signals in Colorado. Almost took them off when I was stripping unnecessary stuff off my supermoto but relying on the retards around here to recognize hand signals worries me.
Yeah, I'm a firm believer in letting people know what my intentions are, then they can slam into me. ;)
Thanks for the technicality update. I haven't been pulled over yet, so apparently cops aren't on point about the possible (or not) defective vehicle violation.

Cruise around toward the end of the month when those quotas are due and you might find out.

Colorado doesn't require turn signals. Technically, the only equipment requirements are a headlight, taillight, brake light, DOT tires, one mirror, a horn, and dedicated footrests for each passenger.

Yep. Thought about for about one minute and then jumped on the bike and headed out. Took it a few blocks to want to stay idling. Been quite a few years since I?ve had anything without fuel injection. I forgot that carbureted bikes need to warm up a little. Especially since it?s been parked since probably last October.

It must be springtime because I seem to have motorcycle fever.
I wanted to try a big bike because it’s been 5 years or so since I sold my K1100LT. So about a month ago, I bought this one:
http://www.woodardfamily.com/hosted/4BB2E982-422D-47C0-A79F-802F6575C32D.jpeg
And I *really* like how a big, heavy bike rides, but I wanted more bells and whistles so I bought this one:
http://www.woodardfamily.com/hosted/10320B3B-3775-44C7-9EF4-54CF888C893D.jpeg
Short story is that I now have an extra big motorcycle. If anybody wants a really sharp 1997 Valkyrie with 18,000 miles, it’s listed in the Fort Collins Craigslist ads for $4500.
Fentonite
05-17-2019, 22:41
How does that Valkyrie fit a tall guy? I’ve always been intrigued by them but figured I’d look like Herman Munster on one. I still do on my Road King, but hopefully soon to fix with a suspended solo seat, lower floorboards and removal of suspension-lowering kit.
NFATrustGuy
05-17-2019, 22:57
I’m only about 5’10” and I feel like the Valkyrie fits me perfectly. I could see where a tall guy might look a little goofy on it as it definitely has a low seat height. I don’t know where Edgewater is, but if you’re anywhere near the northern Colorado area, you’re welcome to come sit on the Valkyrie.

Kazoo once told me many many years ago:
?What?s all that speed without class??
I?ve owned over 20 rockets and they just aren?t as appealing to me anymore. Something about being able to ride in comfort and still have some speed is more appealing then going 100mph+. 1/4 mile times are going to be similar but stop light to stop light, it?s hard to beat two jugs.
My grandpa was bald and rode and restored Indian motorcycles. He once told me that if he was a Harley guy, he'd probably still have all his hair.
Why are motorcycles and ATV's so expensive? I've been browsing Craigslist and people have stuff listed at stupid prices. I saw a 1979 Honda 185XLS (NON-RUNNING) listed for $850! I used to have one of those bikes. That thing is worth like $200. I hope so at least, because I traded it to a scammer on here for some work on my Amigo back in the day.
The older Japanese bikes are getting expensive. Guess vintage stuff is just cool and collectible. I built a cafe racer out of an old KZ400 years ago and had maybe $700 into the whole project. When I sold that bike I turned about a 300% profit on my investment. Thought I?d do another one like it a few years back but finding a reasonably priced bike was all but impossible so I lost interest.
I?m still always kind of keeping an eye out for a cool vintage dirt bike project.

Have you priced out a new bike or ATV? That is why the used market is so high just like cars.
I don't even bother to look at new stuff because I know they all cost more than I'm willing to spend on my normal vehicles. The cost of Razors is astounding to me.
