So my long time buddy just retired from the Air Force and is heading back here to find a job and a place to live. He's officially out on the 29th, he was an MP.. Anyway, he's looking for a job. It sounds like he'll do just about anything, and has a big interest in building guns. He's got a good head on his shoulders, so if you know anyone who's hiring shoot me a PM. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link, I guess I've not seen that thread before. I'll keep an eye on it. I contacted a drivetrain guy I know, just waiting to hear back if he needs a hand. As for TS clearance, I would guess yes. He can't talk about 90+% of what he did. Anyway, thanks for everything folks!

Depends on what he guarded... you don't automatically get a Clearance done on you. Even FOUO stuff you are not supposed to talk about even though it isn't classified.

Secret Clearance is pretty standard, but when you get into more than that, it gets expensive to do the process.

It sounded like he guarded people.

I can ask around. I have a good friend who has security connections with the FAA and CDC up near Loveland/ FOCO.

Is there good work for someone with a TS/SCI near Colorado Springs?.... I'm asking for a friend. My wife is totally happy with me being over seas half the year. ;)

Can't talk about 90+% of what he did? Usually that means "I didn't do much of anything but I want to make it sound good so I'll just say I can't talk about it". Having worked around the military for a long time that's been my experience but rbeau30 is right, technically you're not even supposed to talk about FOUO stuff.

My advice though; have him start looking at www.indeed.com and www.clearancejobs.com. Also if he wants to stay in the government sector he could go through www.usajobs.gov. Lastly if he wants to stay in LE then he can check City and County websites for openings.

I was going to say that but I bit my tongue. Because Performance Reports still have to be written every year, and there is an art to saying what you did without saying WHAT you did. And still make it sound like you saved the world every day you come to work.

In Arapahoe county there is a special section for vets Veteran Service Officers. The website also has a link to other counties VSOs as well.

Colorado VA:

If he still has his MGIB, he can sign all or a portion (month increments) of it away for VA Vocational Rehab. IE if he does NOT want or can't continue in law enforcement, they will help him pick a new career and the benefits are similar to MGIB where the stipend/books/tuition are paid for but if his needs are a little more extensive they can help him out there as well. Go on VA website and search for "Vocational Rehab". There are several Case workers here in Colorado that work these cases.

Oh trust me I wasn't trying to bash anyone by any means. I had used the same statement back when I was in and home on leave because I didn't really want to tell my friends that while we were not in the field training we were basically sitting around doing dumb stuff like mowing lawns and painting rocks. I will say that there are some people out there that do save the world on a daily basis, like the aircraft mechanics that I was working with before I came here, but there are a good lot of folks that do a lot of hanging out and then a little bit of action.

I have been in "the system" while in the military where you really cannot say what you do... and there are still stuff you can say.

DoD contracting is a good ol' boy's club. If he's got a clearance and an IQ above 50, he shouldn't have any problem finding a job in COS. Tell him to start dropping resumes/talking to recruiters at all of the standard DoD companies- Booz Allen, Lockheed, Boeing, General Dynamics, Honeywell, L3, Serco, Harris, or any of the various dozens of smaller outfits that have a presence here.

He needs to also start talking to any contacts he may have made while in the military who've retired; commanding officers he had a good rapport with, friends, etc. Odds are that some of them are working at a contracting gig of one sort or another, and having someone on the inside who can vouch for him is a serious advantage.
