Just returned from a Alaska cruise. Couple things happened on this trip that some of you may find interesting. Number one we bought some internet time to use on our mobile devices since our carriers had poor coverage. I signed on and accessed my email. I asked a local dealer by email to hold a Sig p226. The dealers response to my email was not visible so I ran a search of my folders for p226. The wifi and email froze up. Thinking it was a technical error I tried again. Same thing happened. I signed on again and searched my folder for several no gun items and had no problems. Tried the p226 search and was dropped again. Now I also had gun broker auction bid going and I attempted to access the GB web page and I a screen came informing me the content was blocked because it was deemed to be inappropriate website. Either I did loose the auction.

Number 2 my brother in law owns the Outdoor Edge knife company. He brought a couple filet knifes for a planned Salmon fishing trip. He checked them in his baggage and had no problems getting through TSA. However they were confiscated by the Carnival Security staff who do found them in the xraying of his luggage.

Number 3 Don't have a prejudices but why don't cruise ships hire Americans or English speakers for Security work?

Norwegian.
More like registered in bahamass or some other fiscal haven.... People don't realize it but when you travel on a cruise ship and are at sea you have NO RIGHT and cannot claim any US based law/constitutional right to protect yourself.

There are not many if any cruise lines based in the US.

1 & 2) Their ship, their rules.

3) Labor costs.

Oddly enough, Carnival is based out of Doral, FL.

"Based" they're home is Britain. I worked on repairing them when we lived in FL and received payment from corporate offices in Holland, and Great Britain.

Yep and with the number of norovirus cases lately, the water they use for the soup is probably directly coming from the latrines....

we repaired the Carnival Sun way back when it caught fire at sea. When we took the stainless panels out of the kitchen there were rats the size of possums living above the galley.
All the workers are from asia, portugal, etc. they continue to cook regardless of what falls into the mix.

PS we had a good time shooting those rats with the .22 till the port authority showed up and asked all if they had heard seen anyone shooting,,, "nope not here".

I had no idea that anybody would part with real money for a Carnival cruise. With the Carnival Ecstasy, Tropicale, Spendor and Triumph fires then the Costa Concordia disaster, thought that would be the death nail for them. I agree Norwegian good to go, I've had many happy trips.

You couldn't pay me enough to set foot on a cruise ship again.

Norwegian was awesome. Eat whenever (for the most part) where ever, and with whom ever you choose. More of a laid back type of cruise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day Western Caribbean Celebrity cruise (Solstice) a few years ago. Had a nice upgraded balcony room on the hump.

I saved Amex rewards for 7 years and did the whole cruise and airfare on points. Hotel on both ends on Hilton points. We paid for our excursions and drink package.

50 something's crowd for the most part.

We still Facebook with folks that we met at our formal dinner table.

I brought a tactical light, flashlights, chemlights, and a few survival items. Knives were not permitted. One never knows.

I was sick the last day and the flight home. So sick the 2nd day following I cancelled for the first time ever, a trip to start a project 2 hours before flight time. However, I'm certain I caught the crud while in Chicago the week before the cruise and my wife was fine.
