I have no idea if anyone has ever studied the effect of excessive force on crowds/riots but today seems to lend some truth to this. The State police rolled in there without any of the heavy equipment and the riots calmed down significantly. Reports are crowds welcomed the State police.

Capt. Ron is the brother from the hood. Well he grew up there, Kind of curious where he lives now.
ANYWAY, His comments of Walking Arm in Arm with them was a political move, by the governor. Does anyone think the release of, my baby's innocent ADULT Brown strong arming a clerk would have been released before the sheriff and crew were off the street?

Once I SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY Statie was on board the tape's released.

The quote (roughly quoted) went something like this from his family. First they assassinate him, Now they assassinate his character.

Keeping in mind the family attorney said this

"It appears to be him," attorney Daryl Parks said, referring to the footage, which he said was released without any advance notice from police.

So at this point where are all the posters who were DEMNDING a trial by fire for the cop? Not saying he was in the right. Just curious how the lynch mob has quietly vanished.

OH Fuk the real bomb throwers are involved. Hold on to your hat. Soon we'll see O talk about the cultural divide in this country, again.

Police "are choosing to disseminate information that is very strategic to try to help them justify the execution-style" killing, said Crump, who also represented the family of Trayvon Martin, the teenager fatally shot by a Florida neighborhood watch organizer who was later acquitted of murder.

Right, because heavily armed criminals is a new thing.

Somehow these guys were able to keep the peace without machine guns, armored personnel carriers, and balaclavas.

http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/police/about/1930-2.jpg

Bad examples as Frank Hamer's posse were each armed with a shotgun and automatic rifle as well as pistol and they all opened up on Barrow and Parker with the automatic rifles. LEOs used about 130 rounds on Bonnie & Clyde, 2 FBI agents were killed in the gun battle with Baby Face Nelson, etc. Melvin Purvis got away with only firing 5 shots at Dillinger because he set up an ambush. Law enforcement officers of the Bonnie & Clyde era started arming themselves with military-grade weapons precisely because the outlaws had acquired military-grade weapons.

I would like to see good judgment applied but I'm not going to crap all over law enforcement for not limiting themselves to .38 revolvers when they're up against AKs, Glocks, etc.

My point was that folk like Bonnie and Clyde and the Dillinger gang weren't used as an excuse to militarize your regular officers.

The truth is the militarization of our police is because the police have embraced the concept of no-knock raids to keep misdemeanor pot smokers from being able to flush their baggie down the john when they show up with a search warrant. Something that has nothing to do with the BS notion that every patrolman may have to face down a North Hollywood Bank Robber.

The truth is, B&C were ambushed and assassinated. They were afforded no constitutional protections like due process. At the time they were shot they were just riding in a car and didn't pose a lethal threat. There was no attempt to arrest them. And there certainly wasn't the oversight and press coverage back then so corruption in police departments was a real problem. I'd be really cautious about holding all police departments and officers of that period up as nothing more than lightly armed protectors of the community (not necessarily you, Z, but in general). I'm not defending B&C but c'mon. If something similar happened today I can't even imagine the outrage from people on this forum.

And I disagree with your comment regarding "the BS notion that every patrolman may have to face down a North Hollywood Bank Robber". I think something similar or facing someone just as dangerous is a possibility for any officer working the street. The chances may be statistically insignificant but it does occasionally happen in places where you wouldn't expect it to happen. I would at least want to have a rifle and a couple of mags at my disposal if I were still working the streets. That doesn't mean I think all cops should be riding around in up-armored Humvees.

And I don't think it's fair to say it's OK for us average non-LE types to prepare for the worst because it's our money were spending but it's not OK for police departments because they're spending taxpayer money. At least to a point. As Joe Citizen I'm not expected to put my life on the line for others in violent situations with people who've shown no problem killing. Cops are. They should have the best equipment possible to at least give them a decent chance at a favorable outcome. Again...do they need M1 tanks and Apache helicopters? No. But if I'm the one the cops are coming to rescue or it's a member of my family in danger I don't give a shit that the SWAT team arrives in a surplus armored vehicle wearing camo or black uniforms and wearing a face mask and carrying military surplus M4 carbines.

In this case in MO it doesn't matter that the officer may have unlawfully killed Brown in the sense that nothing the officer did justified the response by the thugs in that city. Because the police do something wrong gives NO ONE the right to burn, loot and ravage innocent people and business owners in the neighborhood. Frankly, even if Brown didn't deserve to be shot and killed a lot of scumbags in that city did.

I think we all agree with this.

Ronin, I think I may have even said this to you before. But since you are LE...it's really difficult for someone to take your opinion on a matter like this as viable. You are buttering your bread on both sides with an issue like this, and it comes across as disingenuous. I work in the pipe business and anytime people ask me about fracking I tell them that I don't get to have an opinion on something controversial that also pays my paycheck every month. Whether or not I actually do have an opinion on it, it just is better to keep it to myself in these instances. I would ask you to do the same when it comes to these kinds of things.

Disagree. People with inside knowledge can provide better information that may clear up issues. You know that Ronin is trying to be LE, so you can adjust how much weight you give his statements. We're all adults here and can do the same with others who are in any particular industry. When people ask gunsmith related questions, we wouldn't get anywhere if we asked gunsmiths to refrain from answering. There was a thread about fraking a while ago and I for one would have appreciated input from someone in the industry, as I don't think there was anyone that responded.

Further, if someone has an insurance question, I can explain things about coverage or why a policy is worded the way that it is, etc. If someone wishes to decide that I'm trying to pad my own pockets and am full of crap; that's totally fine. Better to have the information out there than not at all.

I don't think it necessarily matters what armaments the police have, so much as how they use them. If all those cops showed up with SAWs and shoulder mounted rocket launchers, but none of them were used, no one was mistreated, etc, how much outrage would there be? Sure there would be some still, but I think it'd be less. I know the cop that pulls me over has a rifle in the car, but I don't bitch about it because he didn't point it at me the whole time during a traffic stop.

Yep...I agree. Why wouldn't I want inside knowledge if I had a question about a certain industry? When I research something - say, buying a new vehicle - I'm more than happy to take tips from pros and insiders to make the best decision on what to purchase and how.

I saw pictures of the local cabelas a couple days ago. All of the used guns were locked up, all of the handgun cases were emptied with handguns locked up and the safes were moved in front of the high-end gun room windows and door to block access. Only the behind the counter long guns were out.

Thank God the New Black Panthers are there to help stir the pot. Looks like switch of command to the State Police worked, the Chief seems capable and has earned some respect from the streets.

Lets hope things calm down and the weekend is peaceful.

Yes!! I went to an Indian Motorcycle test drive weekend at Grand Prix in Littleton today (those are nice bikes!). I was ready to buy one or two but,... being 1/64th native American, I felt sad and insulted by the insignia of the Proud Indian they have chosen to represent the product. Bought a Nissan Leaf instead, cause leaves are green and soft.
