"received post back it has been opened in the back both money orders are gone ,the invoice and ffl are still in the envelope the top part of your address was torn and folded under they could,nt see your p.o.box number or your name I sent it in the pririty mail envelope with the clear front window the address was on another envelope inside it they closed the outer envelope up ,there's no way you could tell what was inside it, I'm going to post office tomorrow to see what I can do,I can't afford to pay again."
He is in FL. What to do now... Will they refund his $1100, or is he SOL?
Should I relist it? Dang Im mad.

I think he can file some sort of claim with the PO. If he can document the theft, the PO should at least replace his money order.

He sent a money order so he should be ok. If he really sent money orders he will get his money back that is the whole point of useing money orders. He could also be trying to scam you sounds kind of fishy to me.

the PO tracking showed what he said happened so I cant say that he didnt send it.
You're a little bit screwed. If he doesn't have the money to send another one, it usually takes the PO 3 months or so to pay out on a money order claim. He should be covered (eventually), assuming he bought a USPS MO. If you decide to let the transaction go and relist it, GB should refund your final value fee.

Great :-/
file a claim with the PO. there should be a copy with the MO number on it. they can cancel those checks, refund the money and get the deal finished.

the buyer of the m/order has to handle everything. the p.o lost a m/o from a deal i had going last year. seller says it never arrived p.o goes file a claim and wait 60-90 days. that wait time starts after the p.o does their lookyloo. that takes another 30 days.
final outcome i file claim 60 days later it arrives at sellers addy marked
FOUND IN BOTTOM OF LOST MAIL BIN FRANKFURT KENTUCKY. in big stamped letters across envelope.
what a headache.

you think thats something, wait unitil the .gov gets hold of health care!
op, let the buyer do his thing with the PO.. you can wait or you can sell to someone else (depending on how hard up for the money you may be) (tough decision)
Another example of why posting here and FTF works out better.
Even a bill of sale is less hassle then what you're going through ;)

Seller should simply say he won't be using the money order and ask for refund at the PO. They'll do it that instant w/ his receipt. If he claim lost/ misplace, it will be months as mentioned previously.
Good luck to you.

FIRST, THEFT OF THE MAIL OR ITS CONTENTS IS A FELONY
SECOND, THEFT OF MAIL OR CONTENTS BY POSTAL EMPLOYES IS 2 ADDITIONAL FELONYS
YOU SAY THERE WERE TWO MONEY ORDERS ? THATS DOUBLE THE FELONYS IF THATS THE CASE
THIRD IF THE MONEYORDERS ARE NOT RECIEVED BY THE INTENDED OWNER, (YOU) AND THEY ARE LOST OR STOLEN, THE POST OFFICE WILL
REPLACE THEM AFTER 30 DAYS (FRM THE DAY THEY ARE REPORTED)
FORTH, SOME STORE OWNER OR PLACE IS GOING TO BE OUT OF THE MONEY BECUASE IF THEY CASH THEM, THE FEDS WILL NOT REIMBURSE THEM AS THEY HAVE BEEN STOLEN, UNLESS YOUR DUDE DID NOT REPORT THEM, DID YOU CHECK WITH HIM TO FOLLOW UP ?

BUYER - wish I knew that this morning, already filled out claim papers they said they will trace them 8-08 thats 60 days after purchase date,I'll get the money back if they have not been cashed, they said it could take another month to get the money even if they have not been cashed, sounds like a real secure way to send money as long as you have plenty of time if something goes wrong. I'm very sorry about all this crap I have done a lot of transactions on GB AND Guns America and I have never had anything like this happen before. Robert

I had that happen to me for an $800 dollar gun that I was buying in February. Darn money order disapeared in the postal system. They told me 60 days but it was refunded in two weeks. You sound like a cool seller, the guy I was dealing with thought I was full of it even with a feedback of 120 positive and no negatives until I emailed him a copy of the money order reciept. Anyways I got the money out of savings and paid the seller again. He gave me an excellent feedback and noted I showed proof that postal service lost my money, however he still got his money about 10 days after the auction. With this in mind I would not let the buyer off so easy, he should have a reciept and that should be easy to be scanned into a JPEG image. If says he does not have a scanner let him know the libray has them. Right now there are to many broke clowns out there on cyber land, and a 1000 dollar GB auction is nothing to take lightly.

Thanks for the insight. The usps tracking showed that it came here, was undeliverable , back to Denver, back to here, undeliverable again then back to FL. If I get hit with fees should I ask him to pay for the listing fee ? since I relisted will they charge me again? I couldnt find a fone # or email anywhere on GB to talk to someone about it. Should I honor the original sale if he gets his $$ back soon ? - A

Be very careful with money orders these days. There are a lot of excellent couterfeit MO's out there (these are a real big problem for sales on eBay and Craigslist). If you go through your bank to cash/deposit it, verify how long it will take for the bank to be certain that it's legit and wait that period BEFORE you send out the item. What's been happening is banks are telling customers after 3 days that the MO is valid and okay, the seller sends out the item (usually to a PO Box or equiv - remember that UPS stores actually use street addresses now, not just box #'s). About a week later the person finds that their bank has debited their account for the amount of the fraudulent MO.

Yeah, I had heard of this scam and later had an old school biker jacket for sale on Craigslist.
I got an eMail from a guy saying that he wanted it but was out of town for a while. He was asking if I could MAIL the jacket to his PO Box (in another city) -- he was going to send me a MO with enough $ to cover the cost of the jacket, postage, and "a little extra for the inconvienence". He'd get the MO to me right away and asked if I could send the jacket the same day I received the MO because he REALLY wanted to start wearing it.
I recognized this as the scam I'd heard about (some will even tell you to wait the 3 days to let it "clear" through your bank...which can actually take up to 2 weeks) and told the guy cash and FTF only. Never heard from him again.
