I hope we get a massive dump. We haven't had one in a while. I like to have a giant pile of firewood in the house, a bunch of good food and booze on hand, the snowblower all gassed up, and just relax during the storm. It's good to slow down for a day or two. After that, we're all ready to murder each other.

This is my normal two week grocery top off cycle today, Kings was not too bad but COSTCO was Ridiculous!

I overhead some people at the self checkout all talking about stocking up and the storm, sounding all worried. The clerk (who knows me/family) asked me about the pre-storm panic and my statement was; "This is Colorado this time of the year. We get most of our snow in the spring. Snows like bat-shit crazy and then 60 degrees the days after. You live here, you should always be prepared for this." The other people then stated they just moved here from Cali...................figures

I dont believe the snow forecast until I actually see it.................

That's what I just saw at King Soopers by me. Batshit crazy. Barely any milk, bread, soup left on the shelves. All I wanted was to make Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup tonight. Got the last two cans of generic tomato soup. Got second to last pack of Farmland Bacon and they had plenty of ice cream.

When weather events (hurricanes) happened back when I lived in NC/GA/FL, the masses acted each and every time as if no such event had ever occurred before. Power would be out for several weeks, all the stores boarded up, FEMA had daily water/food handouts in the local Home Depot parking lots and at night the droning on of generators was enough to make the unaware put earplugs in. I say the unaware as night was when the looting often went into gear and thus earplugs might be a bad idea if you want to hear what's going on around you. It didn't matter if you lived in a $300K condo or a $4M waterfront home, darkness provided cover for those that wanted to benefit from a bad situation.

While milk/bread were the go-to panic items in GA, NC & FL folks didn't much care about anything but booze pre-storm and thus it was a state law that when the eye was within X number of miles (I think the "box" was 500 miles when I lived there), all ABC stores in NC had to close and no more alcohol was sold. In any event, no matter how routine storms are, be they hurricanes in the SE, snow storms where it snows, or other such things, the vast majority don't plan ahead.

When I first bought a home in Florida, a friend there told me to go buy 50 gallons of water. Granted, there hadn't been a hurricane in that county in over 100 years but he said to go buy 50 individual gallons of drinking water and just put it away (grabbing a few to go in a hurry is easier than putting a 50gl drum in the car). I had the space so I bought the water and put it away. Sure enough, first time in over 100 years we managed to be the bulls-eye for three CAT-3+ storms in a single year (2004). The drinking water was nice to have, I lived right on the water so we used sea water to flush the toilets with 5gl buckets.

Long story abbreviated: the lines at the FEMA stations at Home Depot were hundreds of people long every day for the most basic of needs - water.

We don't have hurricanes in CO but there are plenty of people that don't have the bare necessities should all services cease for several weeks. It's gotta suck to be them if something should happen.

-It's often cold here in Winter, do you have a means to stay warm if the power/gas lines are out?
-It's dry here, do you have adequate water if the well runs dry, civic water stops, Etc.?
-We have forest fires here, is your gas tank filled and can you get out of the woods in a hurry?

Just some random thoughts as I sit here dreading shoveling the sidewalks tomorrow morning [Dunno]

I went to Walmart for some snacks as we were running low. The hurricane analogy is spot on. I've been through three or four of them. The shelves at Walmart reminded me of the hurricanes. Of course people were preparing for a week or more with no power and undrinkable water. Not two days of snow.

Went to town for dinner tonight. Asked the wife if we needed anything at the grocery store. Neither of us could think of anything we needed, so I guess we missed our chance to get ran over by crazed shoppers with their shopping carts, and fight over the last gallon of milk and loaf of bread. Damn.
We did fill up the car with gas. Didn't think about why there were 2-3 cars in every line until I read this thread. Figured it was normal that time of night. We just thought it was time to fill-up. It was, got 29 gallons in our 32 gallon tank. Can't remember the last time we need that much. (Gas gauge doesn't work, we use the odometer) Car was running most all day, not moving a lot, just trying to get a dually truck unstuck. Guess it used more gas than we thought.
Snow is coming down pretty good now. Maybe we will go shopping next week, then again, maybe not.

If you can't make it through a weekend without an "emergency" trip to the grocery store to "stock up" on milk and bread, you should reexamine your life priorities. (Not directed at any individual here, just an open statement for the people standing in line pushing for the last loaf of bread). Furthermore, 12-18" of snow is NOTHING. Especially on the weekend when it's not during the normal weekday commute. In fact, I have a barber appointment today at 4 right when it's supposed to snow the heaviest. "OMG, he's crazy, he's going out in the storm!" Please pray that I survive the Siberian Express or whatever they are calling this.

I went to WalMart and King Soopers last night for a few things, and people were buying shit like it was TEOTWAWKI. Wanted to make some venison stew, there were NO carrots, NO celery, NO lettuce, bread shelves were ravaged, canned goods, dried beans, pastas, milk, all were damn near empty! I couldn't believe it.

This is when you bust out some of those dehydrated foods from the LDS cannery. If anything the diced carrots are amazing. Coul;dn't say how many times we've used them in soups, stews, across the board. Not 1 person could tell they were dehydrated. Like pothers here we've done entire meals using only dried products.

OH BTW: the spouse picked up 2lbs of carrots & celery, thursday. BEFORE any bum rushing the aisles happened.

"A big snowstorm and Coloradans are ready. FOX31 Denver crews caught up with people preparing for the big event and stocking up on essentials before Mother Nature wallops the state."

Coloradans are ready?? Sorry KDVR folks, "stocking up" while pushing someone aside for the last loaf of bread is NOT ready. This type of stuff is actually what scares me the most about the thought of an actual major event happening. People are as far from "ready" as they could possibly be. If that many people aren't prepared for snow in Colorado of all things...yikes.

Had about 8" (of snow) at my house yesterday evening when I shoveled (between 5-7:15). I'm on a corner lot and was not looking forward to shoveling the sidewalk on the side. As I was starting that stretch a neighbor from a street over with a plow on his ATV came up that stretch of sidewalk. Saved me a good 1/2 hour of work. It took him 30 seconds (a second pass would have been perfect though).

Since shoveling, we've gotten at least another inch (looks more like 2 judging by whats on my car & truck). It's pretty much stopped right now, but word is more is still coming. Weeee.

Weeee.

The good news is that my wife has finally relented and says it's okay for me to get a plow for my ATV. FINALLY.

I need to get a blade for my ATV. I just never think about it when it isn't snowing.

Hard to say how much I got here at my place. If I go off of what is on top of the fence posts I would say I got maybe four inches. With the wind blowing it around I had drifts in my driveway that were almost knee deep.

It's not an ATV like you high rollers have, our craftsman riding mower with 48" blade has paid off numerous times. Hell it even cuts grass when deck is installed. That's All Season capable right there.

Got 10" here in Centennial, shoveled twice last night and once this morning, just a coating now. Headed to Parker in little bit for some family time with my son and his munchkin.

This is my snow blower. 670 HP, cuts 7' wide and able to throw snow about 34'. Enough to get it in the neighbor yard anyway. Pretty sure 3' of snow would not be a problem.

Close. Board member, Non-Firearms forum. He even delivered it. Spouse is out there now clearing a path to the garage. Disregard the shitty cropping .

Being a lover of old Jeeps, I've always found these photos of this old beastie fascinating. I bet it would be a trip to operate! But a maintenance nightmare I'm sure. 1965 CJ5.

I suspect they were doing charity work and appreciate their efforts if so. However, I didn't appreciate the doorbell this morning and appreciated even less the extra effort it took to shovel through the tracks these two guys left on the whole damn driveway.

Did some snow drifts in my car on the way to and from work last night, so that was kinda fun. Otherwise too tired. Went to bed at 10:30 last night, woke up around noon today.

The roads here are really not that bad. I took my son swimming today (to an indoor pool). No real problems getting around. Plus, this time I did not decide to pull over onto a soft shoulder, so no getting stuck. Bonus!

Did I get overly passionate over Bates boots at some point? Must have had a few too many adult beverages one night as I don't recall, and that's the only circumstance I'd do such a thing lol.

No, you never did, but the Bates boots were popular in the new purchase thread at the same time as all the Toyotas.

The highway (I-70) was fairly decent all the way west from the land of Oz, didn't have to slow below 65 mph except for the dipsticks doing 40 in the the #1 lane west of Limon, and wouldn't move over when I came up behind them.
