View Full Version : Diverticulitis
If I had to choose between taking a hit from 277v everyday for 2 weeks and having this I would choose the shock therapy. That was probably the worst pain I have ever felt. Ruined my Memorial day weekend laid up in the hospital on IV antibiotics for 4 days. Have about 4 more days to go on ciprofloxacin and flagyl. Eat more fiber folks.

Is this the Brock Lesnar illness? Tell us more. How do you not get it? Eat more fiber?

These small pockets form on your colon and intestines and those become packed with crap and become infected and inflammed. The pain can be pretty intense. Having a diet high in fiber helps keep this from happening.

I truly feel your pain Neal. It sucks, I had two bouts of it back in 2009 and it freakin hurts.
I told my wife if this is what a gal feels every month I am amazed they don't shoot themselves.
More fiber, watch seedy foods like tomatoes, raspberrys and such.
Glad you're recovering. Kids get taken care of while you were in?

Yup no fun at all. More fiber and I also read that pineapple juice has something in it to aid digestion along with the fiber.

Yep, that's the one. Anything can cause it including the tiny little seeds on the surface of a strawberry (as I recall this is how they think Brock ended up with it) and it's hard to say what's going to set it off. Fiber can help prevent it but it's still a pretty mysterious thing from causation to prevention from what I recall. Either way it does not sound like any fun. I agree with the OP's summation and will even allow you to connect the leads directly to my nuts to avoid it.

I suffered from it back in 2004. Ended up in the hospital for a week and was very close to having the infected pockets burst which would have been a real mess for me. Had no idea I had it until it was almost too late. In the end (after initial infection went away) I ended up having to have Colon resection surgery and they removed a 1/3 of my Colon. That was no fun at all.
Glad you're recovering. Kids get taken care of while you were in?
Yeah had family take care of the kids and dogs.

Damn... Sorry to hear about that, Sparky. Suddenly I don't wanna eat anything with seeds in it.
So the take away is that being full of crap hurts and being full of old crap can be dangerous.
Got it! Thanks.
Sorry you had to go through the pain and hope you never have to deal with this again. [Beer]
Never heard of it. Just read about it. Daammmnn, that sounds painful.
Best recovery, Sparky!

At my last colonoscopy the doctor said I had started to develop this condition and said if I watched what I eat and stay away from nuts and seed foods I would probably never know I have it. It has been just about two years ago and I will get another colonoscopy next summer. Since my father had bladder cancer, my uncle died from colon cancer and my brother had colon cancer and they did a colon resection when he had a colostomy bag for two years before they reconnected him, I get checked out every three years. So far no cancerous polyps and I intend to keep it that way.
Any of you guys and gals approaching 50 years old and anyone older should get a colonoscopy as soon as you can arrange it. It doesn't take long and it is painless, the worst part is the laxative prep which can be amusing for some members of the family.
I watched that tear one of my uncles up and he was one tough motherf***er. Get better, Neal.
Things haven't been going well with this. Round of antibiotics and it comes right back. Seeing a surgeon on the 14th.

Sorry to here. Antibiotics helped me initially but I still needed surgery as well. The surgery fixed me up though. They took out about 1/3 of my colon. I've been good for 10 years now. I did change my diet as well but feeling good these days.
Good luck to you.

Prayers on the way, Sparky. Get well soon.
Hang in there, Neal. You're in our thoughts.
A neighbor of ours had this at about the same time that the spouse was diagnosed with diabetes. Our two families cleaned out our kitchens of processed white flour, white bread and items that had all the fiber removed.
I do think I'm going to start seeding my tomatoes, though. This sounds particularly awful. I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this again. :(

One of the contributing factors to my gall bladder problems and impacted stones was diverticulitis.
My thoughts are with you for comfort and healing.
Hope this all goes well for you....and soon. Thoughts are with you for a quick solution & recovery. I am sure this must be weighing on your family also.

Wish I could, I probably live no more than a mile from you but am away from my home upwards of 13 or 14 hours straight each day. I am sure you will find a solution either online or otherwise. I wish you a good and complete recovery.
What about doggie daycarefor a few days? And did you find homes for the cats?

Cats will be fine. Clean litter box along with plenty of food and water.
It also looks like you could have a pet sitter swing by and feed/walk/play with them, too. Lots of pet sitters in Lakewood!

Think I have everything sorted out. Tuesday is the big day.
We'll be praying for you guys!

That sucks.
Hopefully things are getting better.
I got to spend 40 days in the hospital, and 2.5 months at home, earlier this year, so I understand some of what you're going through. (Not diverticulitis for me)
Prayers that you heal quickly.

Holy cow. That would drive me nuts.
Well finally home. What a miserable experience this has been. Top it off surgeon forgot to sign my pain med prescription on his way out the door today and the duty surgeon was in surgery so I couldn't get my prescription filled. He told me to drive out to his office tomorrow except I am in no real condition to be out driving.
One of the interesting side effects of this surgery is I am having a hard time holding my farts. Last night I took my son to see Santa and try as I might I gassed the line multiple times.
Haha. Hope that gets better for you as time goes on.
