View Full Version : Can you take down your AR-15 in 9 sec?

I was told that 9 seconds is what is required in basic training to take down a standard M-16. I'm guessing it means talking down the bolt carrier group too since I would have 7 seconds to spare normally. I seem to take my time doing it but never tried it timed. Can anyone else do it?

I'd be losing parts left and right if I tried.

I would assume you have to have to take down the BCG, otherwise I agree, I'd have leftover time to scratch. [Beer]

why would you need to do that?

I haven't tried. highly doubt I could even come close to 9 sec.

My Army "Soldiers Handbook" from basic training in 1985, and the issue I have on .PDF from 1999, make no mention of a time requirement for field stripping the M16.

The soldier must demonstrate the ability to disassemble, reassemble and function check the weapon, but there is not a time requirement.

A “GO” or “NO GO” is based off demonstrating the task, and performing it correctly.

I told ya...

But can she shoot it as accurately as she can strip it? That would be impressive.

A former army buddy told me that's what the drill is.

Unfortunately, she's got a big problems with limp wristing with all those jams, but thats awesome she's starting at an early age.

I had the same problem with my kids with my Beretta 92FS, my Mini-14, and my Colt AR when they were younger and smaller. It seemed to be a combination of not enough strength and not enough body weight. Semi-auto's have to have something solid to buck against function properly.

That young girl has really got it going on. I just wish she were 5-6 yrs older and lived in Colo Spr. That is exactly the kind of girl I want my son to date and eventually marry!

[NOTE: All firearms mentioned above were sadly lost in a tragic boating accident.]

on a good day I can get my safe open to get the AR in under a minute. Then I have to get my custom AR tool aka 1 piece Wolf .223 ( in a different safe) and then I can start strippin'. So I would put the whole job into the 10 minute range. [ROFL1]

I think it was 30 seconds to take it apart and put it back together. We were timed. Handguards, bolt etc. With no sissy handguard tool [ROFL1]
