View Full Version : Seated or standing height loading bench?
I'm going to be building a new loading area. I'm trying to decide if I should have the area for presses at seated height, standing height, or some of both. I do everything standing now and am thinking I might like some seated space. What's your preference?

Good question. My preference is to put the bench height so that I can see inside the cases that are being loaded. For the sake of my knees, I prefer to sit... Also note that you may need height clearance for accessories such as a casefeeder, etc.

Bench or strong mounted?
Sit down! You're not getting any younger.
Here's a first cut at a layout for my loading room. I'm thinking the long run of bases and uppers will have a press over each knee hole. That surface is at standing height. The shorter run of bases only is at desk height. I'm thinking that could be used for seated loading. The island is for working on guns, as is the big work surface on the wall with one little window.
What am I missing?

Jim's asking if you'll mount your presses with some form of a 'strong mount' (i.e.; Dillon's strong mount). This places the press even higher off the bench...

Triple the length of that room and you'll have Hoser's setup! [Coffee]
Stripper pole?
Not much good without a stripper.

I say standing height, and get good barstools... That way you can stand or sit.

Leave that to me. True story.

We don't want to see you dance Zach, its really not as attractive as your wife says it is, she's just being nice [LOL]

This. That's how I did my bench. I can stand and do everything I need and if I don't feel like standing I can sit on a stool and still be at a nice height for working the presses.

What are you doing for lighting, especially for the gun bench. Now about those strong mounts?
I build my own mounts, but the concept is the same and the height is similar.
This area is already very well lit. I'm a nut on the subject. I'll add task lighting where appropriate, but it won't be needed in too many places. It's already a very bright space.
I don't like to sit when I reload.
My benches are at kitchen counter height.
If I couldn't sit while reloading, I wouldn't reload.
Ok, I think I'll do most or all 36" bench height and buy a stool with a back if I decide to sit.
Now...where to put the big screen tv and couch?

Not so sure Tim wants you on a stripper pole in his work space......[LOL]It would have to be a "load bearing" stripper pole.

Sitting because it gives you the option to stand and see inside the case if needed. After watching primer tubes blow on a 1200 a few times.... I will not have it below eye level as I value my vision.

Safety glasses when reloading... Its a habit from work.
I prefer sitting for my single stage and standing for the progressive on an elevated mount.
