I put a hothub pad in, it took the contractor's concrete guys 2 times to get it somewhat right. Next they built a ledge around my patio to hold pavers that started breaking apart. soon after. The contractor has yet to come look at the work they did on the ledge. All of this should have taken less than a week, but has been drug out the entiire summer, now I am stuck with ledge falling apart, and no patio done. On top of this they left my backyard in a mess, which i have cleaned up. I havent paid the guy anything at this point, but will pay for the pad.Is there any legal issues stopping the rest of the work, and hiring another guy? Do any of you know a good mason/ concrete guy to come correct said work?

Before paying anything or even contacting the first guy I would get it inspected...if there are problems with the work that was done thus far you should know it before contacting him.

Regarding firing him...you hired him to do a job...that job has not been completed in a timely manner...get someone who wants to do the job.

Read your contract. If you don't have one then no. Most contracts have verbiage about cancellation. You may have to pay for purchased materials, but they would be your property, not the contractors.

WE fired onewho was suppose to be doing repairs after a tornado. Contract in hand and on the phone to our ins co. I threw him off the property. He took a 2 hr lunch, came back with beer cans falling out the truck and stood around smoking for 1/2hr. Said he had to get supplies and might be back later in the day. Told him not to,till those exposed wires he pulled are covered, some way to access the house is fixed etc. He started demo'ing and left more fire and safety hazards than we had after the storm. Took pictures, sent them to ins co and the GC who hired him.

Document everything with pictures and what you remember (if there was no contract) about the agreement.

I fired my neurologist a few years back and it felt so good. He was completely in shock when I told him that we was fired. It was awesome to see his face when he realized that I was serious.

Call Tom Martino and let him push some buttons with the guy.
That's what I did earlier this summer when a contractor(Lawn Pros) left me with a stamped concrete patio that, well, wasn't even all stamped and had cracks almost immediately because they poured concrete that was "too hot" to work and ended up with cold joints. After getting the run around with Lawn Pros, I called Martino and they made a few calls and shortly after, Lawn Pros texted me and offered my money back and agreed to remove all concrete that they had poured. I haven't gotten all of our down payment back yet, they have until tomorrow, and I have since hired someone one else that did a great job, and without any written contract, just an agreement to pay in full once the job was complete and we were happy with the patio.

And my problems with Lawn Pro's continues. Was suppose to receive my final payment from them on Friday and I got the mail late, but no check. So I texted my contact with Lawn Pro's to find out where my money was only to be told that "the office is closed, will be in touch on Monday." SO, today the saga continues.
My advice to ALL, never ever use Lawn Pros for any service. If things go wrong they will drag their feet screaming all the way to the door, actually, just the opposite. I've called and asked on 3 occasions to speak to management and not once have they ever called me or talked to me.
Looks like a call back to Tom Martino tomorrow is in order, and about time to get a lawyer to collect my money from the saps.

You might do some internet searching. IIRC, if you contact a contractor about fixing/warranty work, they have 90 or 120 days to make it right before you can write them off an not owe them anything.
