This should solve the debate: Does marijuana use lead to an increase in crime? The indisputable answer is a resounding "yes".

"Don't fear the reefer" my ass. I'd hate to be stuck along a desolate highway at MM420 and not know it because some pothead stole the sign.

I wonder if they have to relocate them a 10th.

6 months from now we're going to read about a kid that was holding his breath on a road trip and passed out trying to go from MM421 to MM420.

I don't know how many peoples homes I've visited that had a stolen street sign with their name on it hung on the wall.

Why is stealing street signs a thing?? [Dunno]

I remember a guy in college with an entire collection. Street signs like "Sleepy Hollow" and his last name... He even had a yellow "Speed Hump" sign prominently above his dorm-room bed....jackwagon.

Much as I agree with the titular statement, I am afraid stealing street signs is more of a reflection of society in general than of potheads. I knew a number of guys in college who had decorated with stolen street signs (among other things). I couldn't swear that all of them were potheads.

Why is shooting signs a thing? I must have seen 25 shot up signs coming down Old Stage this morning.

I agree about the sign thing being a generational issue and not only a pothead thing. The majority of LEO's that I have talked to since pot was legalized all say that B&E is had a huge spike. I think wether or not your a pothead isn't really relevant it's just a matter of the individual person being trash or not.

People steal signs because you can't buy them. Seems pretty straight forward.

And it's not just weed. Seems like 25-30yrs or so ago, they started selling Corona street signs due to high levels of theft.

First it was the "Potato Cartels". Now this. I'm beginning to think moving to ID was a bad idea.

I had a friend who lived on Coors Court in Lakewood. They were always stealing the Coors street sign.

So,
how long does it take to travel a mile, if you are doing 60 MPH ?...............[Tooth]

Not gonna lie, I kind of want to steal one of the "tank crossing" signs near the tank trails on post...

For the first 10 years we lived in Bailey we lived on "Beaver Trail". Yeah...I wanted a sign but I couldn't steal one.

Wouldn't that be:
"Utilization of Relocated Assets"
in .mil speak?

Or would "appropriation" be more correct?

While not cheap, you can legally buy DOT-spec signs online and have them shipped right to your door, I have probably 50 different ones that get used in photo shoots periodically. I just did a quick online search and you can get a street sign with any name you want. No, this won't be as economical as stealing one, but for anyone that wants one that says a particular thing and doesn't want to steal it, it's a fairly straight forward process to get one legally.

Thank you. I think a custom sign, legally purchased, makes an excellent gift for the workshop.

You can also get legitimate-looking (but probably not DOT-spec) signs from private vendors. There's one at Colorado Springs' Territory Days that does all kinds of metal signs including ones that look like legitimate street signs but with anything you want on it.

One caveat that I should have listed above: I keep the original purchase receipt for the signs I have so as to avoid any unpleasant interactions with someone who suspects that I might have liberated them - the signs I have aren't "look-alikes", -they are the real thing and I could see how it could pose problems, hence keeping the receipt handy. The in-spec rectangular posts with the holes in all four sides are far most costly than the actual signs unless you known someone that owns a steel yard that traffics in such items.

Celo tape the receipt to the back of each. Great idea.
