I've got a 1943 Remington M1903A3 that I got from another member here. Shot it quite a bit, but never really took it out by itself and made friends with it. Did that Sunday.

Considering I'm 60 and been nearsighted with glasses since 10, and it's a 73 year old battle rifle with iron sights (and a damn skinny front blade!), I think us old farts did OK. Beat the hell out of my 8" gong too.

100 yards. 150gr FMJ's, handloads replicating .30-06 M2 ball.

Nice shootin!!!!!

Always loved the 03A3, can't beat that shooting for a rifle that's 70+ years old.

That's minute of elk heart right there. I have eyesight challenges with the Garands and have considered adding a rail for a scout scope mounting--better than the old offset mounts.

This looks good: http://ultimak.com/m12.htm I wonder if you can find something like it for the M1903?

I have one of those for my Garand, it works great! But I took it off until I can afford a good quality scope for it, and I like the walnut handguard better. But I have no trouble with my Garand sights either.

Did you ever mount and test a scope on the ultimak, was it solid with repeatable groups? Did you try a QD mount?

Yeah, I had a cheapo NCStar LER scope on it, and it worked well as I recall. It's just that that scope is such a dark p.o.s. I could only use it in bright daylight, and I don't care much for scout scope configurations to begin with. I like a scope in front of my eye, where they should be, rather than a foot or so away. That just bugs me.

Very well! Open sights are hard especially if vision isn't perfect; which lots of people struggle with extremely with age. Amazing group for factory ammo with open sights though. Good job
