View Full Version : How do you get rid of an old car? (Colorado Springs)

Never been faced with this problem before. 1991 Ford Explorer. Technically, it runs. Realistically, it doesn't. So let's just say it needs to be towed away. It's currently sitting at my house.

One charity I called told me I need to get it appraised first (which I'd have to pay for). The appraisal would probably cost about the same as the car's worth. :)

Suggestions?

Craigslist, then donate some money to charity if you want.

Or buy a gun, or parts, or ammo, or reloading goodies, or.....

It may not be worth the trouble for you to fix it, but it is to SOMEBODY! Sell it, and it'll be on the road in a week. Or parts of it will be.

Our grandson wrecked two cheap hoopties, and I wish I'd had the patience to Craigslist them instead of selling them to scrappers for $50.

...The charity needed it appraised? Bugger that! I donated mine up in Washington to some charity, they came and hauled it (which was good because it didn't run at all :P), and later sent me a letter saying how much it had gotten so I could use that as a tax write-off.

Thanks for the help; to keep a long story short, it's someone else's car that happens to be at my house and they now live in AZ, so they get first pick of where it goes. If their first pick doesn't pan out (and if they really want an appraisal, that's a deal breaker), I'll try their second choice and then it'll go to the NRA.

What's wrong with it? It's old, 1991 I believe. Was running when it was parked about 10 years ago, about five years ago drove 100' it to where it's located now. Didn't run well, and that's an understatement.

Yes, I have their signed title. :)

You could give it to NPR. They're always talking about car donations.
