View Full Version : People wonder why you need to carry at home

Stapleton isn't really that nice, lots of shit neighborhoods surround it as well section 8 housing. Crime exists everywhere, as do naive people. Yeah it sucks a guy is attacked in his own garage but unfortunately I'm not surprised.

Is this really that surprising for any neighborhood in Denver?
The only thing remarkable is the continued ignorance of big shitty thinking/residents who vote for gun control and safety vacuums.

I don't always actually carry, but I have quick access to defensive tools at all times. I also don't work in the garage with the door open if I can help it. The house doors are ALWAYS locked.
My neighborhood in Longmont is pretty quiet, but I don't ever think that we couldn't be the victim of crime.

You nailed it. Also my neighborhood in Centennial is pretty damn quiet but in July the deputies caught a guy trying to break in to my neighbor's home during the middle of the day. Thankfully there are other neighbors home during the day, saw somebody that had never been seen before walking around checking out the homes, ringing doorbells. Their dog goes nuts (as does mine) whenever someone approaches or rings the bell/knocks on the door. They're an older couple, didn't answer but kept an eye on him.

It's in the Shitty and County of Denver, so it's not exactly that nice... I live just south of there, and I think we're a lot safer, mostly because the criminal element doesn't shit where they live. [Coffee]

Who wonders?
I always laugh when they interview people. " I never thought it would happen here" " We live in a good neighborhood", etc.
What criminals cant find some mode of transportation to get to where you are? What criminals dont think it might be a good idea to target nice neighborhoods with money?
silly people. Crime happens everywhere.
You C&P from my last reply on this ;)
We agree, as do others, It can Happen ANYWHERE, ANYTIME.
I don't carry at home. My home is my castle so that makes me the king. People just don't f**k with the king.
Studies have shown that most home invasions happen at home.

Yeah. I read somewhere that most workplace violence takes place at work too.

You mean just down the road from the Denver Women's Correctional Facility, Denver County Jail, and DRDC?

I've never understood the "I only carry when going to a bad area" thought process.
I've never understood the "I only carry when going to a bad area" thought process.
That's pretty much my mentality so I'll humor you by trying to justify it.
For the first 45 years of my life I didn't carry anywhere. Never felt unsafe or threatened or had any spooky moments.
Recently, it seems evil is popping up more often and popping up in unexpected places. Personally, I don't really think it's any worse than it was years ago. I just think it makes the news more than it used to so it just seems worse than it really is.
Anyhow, I am kind of a creature of habit and really don't go places that I am unfamiliar with and the places I do go don't make me feel an overwhelming need to arm myself.
Statistically I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery or being struck by lightning than ever needing to use a firearm to defend myself but I don't feel the need to constantly buy lottery tickets or spend all of my time indoors.
I guess for me it's more of a risk versus reality thing. If I perceive the likelihood of danger will be high then chances are I wouldn't put myself in that situation anyways. If I can't get out of a perceived high risk situation I will arm myself. If I don't feel there is much of a chance of danger then I see no need to walk around armed to defend myself against nothing.
I also don't wear a seatbelt because I feel the probability of being involved in a fatal accident is statistically pretty low.

Lol. Then you could have robbed me blind pretty easily because I probably wasn't carrying that day.
Carrying a firearm for self defense is risk mitigation.
Don't carry one if you don't plan to use one. It's like condoms. Except hopefully your chances of getting laid is better than getting into a ballistic boxing match.

I understand your point of view. The best way to win a fight is to avoid the fight & situational awareness is the key. I would encourage you, though, if you're comfortable in doing so, to carry whenever is legally possible - while the odds are in your favor, you never know when Murphy will strike.

Black Irish lives matter
Sure is a lot of Hooliganism going on lately around here against us Irish.
I'll need to go spend some time in Bert's Pit soon.

Whatever. We all know the Irish head straight for the pub when they need a safe space.

Flakeists! Irish lives matter. Don't forget their two most important contributions to society:
1) The potato (and therefore french fries)
2) Public consumption of large quantities of alcohol
The world would be a lot more boring and tasteless without the Irish. (This post may or not be tasteless and historically inaccurate)
Piffle! The most important Irish contributions to society have been (in no particular order):

This post has not only spoken to me but have my planned my evening.
Q Soda makes an awesome Ginger Beer (spicy!). Just add Stoli and the juice of one fresh lime. Copper mug optional.

As a person of Irish and Scottish heritage, I am not offended. I usually carry outside the home (except at work as per the rules (wink, wink)) and if I am involved in the rare pub crawl, I will carry an umbrella with a hardened steel tip. At home I have access to what I need, even in the dark.
Dumb question but were the three perps on foot, driving, on bicycles, segways...?

Yeah that neighborhood is nice....venture a few blocks out of it...not so nice.
Crime happens everywhere. I am always packing or within arms reach when working in my garage.

This is why I carry everywhere... Also for the fact that crime is not segregated to "bad" areas.
