Love this little gem that was just posted:

"I have a problem with someone that keeps getting into my car. If I leave my car unlocked this person gets in it and stays there for a while. I don't know how long as it is overnight hours. Nothing is ever stolen, I don't keep anything of value in it. I just know that someone has been in it. Sometimes I find crumbs or wrapper pieces, most of the time the dome light is on from the door being ajar. Is anyone else having this problem?

Maybe start locking your $&@!'ing car!!!

Someone in my neighborhood list posted about rattlesnakes. They want to talk about nearby construction and one jack tard even posted that in "13 years they have seen only one" which was "in the driveway" and their "little girl thought it was a stick and almost picked it up" and went on to say "that's in THIRTEEN years" as if it somehow signifies how few rattlesnakes there are in this neighborhood. So, just how many rattlesnakes does your small child have to pick up for you to agree we have a problem?

Then, as if that weren't enough, it gets better....

Another person posted: "Just remember the rattlesnakes are a protected species. It's a hefty fine for killing them. One of our church friends makes a habit of turning folks into the Fish and Wildlife if he finds out they are killing snakes. If needed, call the Sheriff on non-emergency line and they can send someone out to catch the reptile and release it later in the Pawnee Grasslands."

My response:
"Rattlesnakes are not protected in any way, shape or form. Whoever the narc is that's reporting people for killing them has way too much time on his hands. Do not call Larimer County Sheriff's Department about a snake in your yard. They've got more important things to do.

If people would stop cultivating rattlesnake food by feeding rabbits and encouraging their numbers in our neighborhood it would make a big difference since snakes just go where the food is.

If you don't want to deal with rattlesnakes in your yard then don't feed the cute little bunny rabbits. If everybody thought the same way we wouldn't have a rattlesnake problem."

My guess is that is just too much logic for their feeble minds to comprehend however and they're going to come back with some diabolical reasoning to stick around the 'hood even if we eliminated all of the rabbits because of some vendetta or some other reasoning that rattlesnakes are clearly capable of.

lol

Just from today.

Good morning neighbors! I wanted to give you a heads up about your pets and keeping them close to you this time of year. Leaving for work this morning, about 630 am, I encountered a coyote in the middle of the street right in front of my house. We live off 106th and Albion. He was not alarmed by me either which was even scarier. My husband had been out with our pets about 20 minutes prior to this for their morning business. First time I've come face to face with one and scared the crap out of me. Be safe with your animals! Have a great day!

So...you saw a coyote while you were driving? Thanks for the warning?

My (imagined) response.

"Great, with my luck, this jackahole might report me for shooting bunnies in my back yard to help control the rattlesnakes."

That is, if I was in your neighborhood, and hadn't gotten banned from ND within a week.

We saw a coyote this morning. Stopped for a bit to see where she was going and to comment on how healthy she looked. Apparently the mild winter has been good for lots of us.

If a coyote gets your pet, you are at fault and you have let your pet down, IMO.

We had foxes invade our neighborhood a few years ago. It was awesome. Not only are the foxes kind of cool but as soon as I started noticing them I also noticed the over abundance of stray cats in the area pretty much went to zero.

This coyote thread is getting dumber.

Same poster.

I've seen them down in the fields by Walgreens but i never thought I would see one in front of my house. Quite startling.

My wife had to drag me away from the computer.

So you saw a coyote....AND?
First you saw one over there, but you never thought you'd see one over here? They aren't lawn gnomes.

This was on the Facebook group for my neighborhood.

Sarah Mahunik
Is someone missing their pet lizard or are these some native lizard? Yikes!
69871

Shelli Moore Meyer YIKES!!! are you sure it is a lizard or is it a snake!! either way.... ewww!!!

Wendy Rice Way cool! Tiger salamander?

Sarah Mahunik Yes it is! Yikes, I was hoping it was a pet.

Shelli Moore Meyer Im Screaming for you !!! can you not hear me?! I HATE SNAKES!!!

Shelli Moore Meyer and.... at least you found it before one of your kiddos did. EWW!! EWW!! EWW!!!

Colleen McNamara Mortensen Shelli Moore Meyer...😂😂

Lisa Kouf Shelli, in my opinion, finding that there is a whole lot better then finding dead rabbits in your window wells. :)

Shelli Moore Meyer Lisa Kouf I agree... or voles!!

Naima Haddad Gomez You're pretty brave for standing still enough to take this snap! 😳🏃🏽‍♀️

Sarah Mahunik I was in the house! It is in the window well.

Jessica Perez NO!!!!! Window WELL???! I'm freaking out

Amy Hanken Your window wells are like outdoor terrariums. What the heck!? I've never seen one around here but Sydney would take it as a pet if we let her. Which we aren't so don't ask.

Wendy Rice party pooper

Michael Castell It's a harmless tiger salamander. You should take it out of your window well though so it doesn't die.

Jamie M Smith it's a tiger salamander, they are harmless and native. I'm sure he would really appreciate being rescued from your window well and put near one of the ponds.

Wendy Rice You'll get right on that, right Sarah Mahunik? ;)

Sarah Mahunik I will wait for you to come and do it :)

Sarah Mahunik Actually I will make my husband when he gets home. We have pulled so many things out of this window well, he has a specific bucket just for getting stuff out of there.

Jamie M Smith I just sent you a pm, I can come get it out

Shayne Buckley They're very nice, They jump for food though, we used to have a pet one.

Cassi Ely Wedel I'll do it!! pm me if needed!

Looks like a salamander

Amy Hanken Jack says he thinks Harrison would really enjoy a pet lizard...

Shayne Buckley Wild salamander. It's illegal in Colorado to take them as a pet, fyi. After rains, they are easier to find.

Michael Castell Actually you can possess up to six live native reptiles or native amphibians for personal use except for a few species whose possession are specifically prohibited.

Shayne Buckley Yes, but wild capture is illegal is what my point was. No one will care unless someone tries to sell it.

Michael Castell Yes the sale is illegal but you can capture and posses them. They are considered unregulated by the state.

Jessica Perez I can't tell if there are legs? Mike would probably love getting it out!

Sarah Mahunik He left! Climbed out himself.

He's telling all his friends about your awesome window well right now.

Jessica Perez Please no!

Megan L KH He's on his way to your house, Jessica! 😬😳😢

Jessica Perez For real!!! My dogs will just walk by him! 😩

Shayne Buckley If that was your window well, they don't climb...like at all. They burrow

Wendy Rice Bahahaha fantastic!

Jessica Perez So he's not to my house yet!

Amy Hanken Ewwww....they burrow. Now I'm creeped out for you. She's building a family in the window well now.

Sarah Mahunik Well, lovely. He can live in his burrowed place with all the toads that burrow themselves in there.

Shayne Buckley Lol

Shayne Buckley They are super friendly. We loved ours so much.

Sarah Mahunik Yeah, he is back. I looked again after reading they burrow.

Shayne Buckley We have reptiles all ready and would happy to catch it and give it a home

69872

Shayne Buckley They like moist soil no heat and mid humidity

Sarah Mahunik Shayne Buckley I messaged you.

Jessica Perez I just show mike & he said we've had one too!
k
Sarah Mahunik Jessica Perez did he get it out?

Jessica Perez Yep & took it back over to the canal.

Sarah Mahunik Phil wonders if this is the same one and he just really likes the suburbs window well life :).

Jodi G Hynds Yikes! Hope he does crawl over to mine!

Shelli Moore Meyer Lisa Kouf.... true or a vole!! 😳

Jennifer Cooper Griffin we used to have these living in our window wells all the time, I would show the kids and let them learn. But, don't touch it because they can carry Salmonella.

Hi neighbors,

Fairly regularly, I see posts on Nextdoor about a "suspicious person" who, when I read the post, is doing something innocuous and harmless - like asking a neighbor for help finding an address or help with a broken down vehicle. I haven't really noticed this type of post about white people, but on a weekly basis, I see posts where this supposedly suspicious person is Hispanic or Black. (Usually posts about "suspicious people" who are obviously white include photos of them doing something *actually* suspicious, like stealing patio furniture or checking car door handles at night.)

We live in a historically Hispanic neighborhood in a part of the country with centuries of Hispanic history. We live in a diverse city in a diverse country that is currently going through a lot of pain around racism. Let's all do our part to make our neighborhood friendly and welcoming for all, a place where a neighbor of any color can go about their business or ask for help without a subsequent Nextdoor post about them being suspicious. Let's not be a part of spreading fear about people who don't look like us, speak like us, or have exactly all the same cultural norms.

Please think twice before posting about "suspicious" people (if it was a middle/upper-class white person, would you have the same reaction?), and help constructively and kindly call out others who make these kinds of posts.

Thanks.

Yup...its such a fun place.

To the elderly gentleman with a cane to allow your off leash dog to do his business on the swim club grass tonight at 6pm. I picked it up and disposed of it for you.

Dear neighbor my child's bus driver was going 20 miles an hour the speed limit is 25. You have been watching her every afternoon and you have nerve yelling at her about her speed when you allow your child to ride the road in his car knowing that the bus driver comes here every afternoon around the same time. Today your child was in the middle of the road and you were no where to be found this is considered neglect so next time you shoot off your mouth about someone going within the speed limit watch out because I will report you to child services...

Well, too many stupid ones to post today. Lady has a squirrel that is running around in circles in her yard. They finally caught it in a bucket, but are trying to find division of wildlife, parks, animal control or someone to deal with it. I suggested just filling the bucket with water. That set everyone off. lol

Amazing how much effort and time they are wasting over a mostly dead animal that is plentiful in the world. Calling all these agencies and none of them have offered to respond.

You should have offered up to come and get the squirrel and relocate it. For a nominal fee. Show up, take payment, dump it out of the bucket, and then immediately relocate the animal to heaven.

Sounds like the circle of life to me.

Someone found a ferret in our neighborhood.

Some girl was trying to troll everyone about a recent law change in Thornton that now allows residents to keep chickens. She failed, hard. Despite being an obvious troll, some even dumber people were still trying to help her. I'd post examples, but it got deleted.

I like how she has a keen understanding what a wild animal is thinking.

I live on the easternmost part of Candelas across from the Rocky Flats open space. This AM I was outside with my small morkie and an owl came swooping in from who knows where as if he were going after the dog and then changed his mind and went straight up over the house at the last minute as I moved slightly forward toward the dog. It had a huge wingspan and was not the least bit scared of me as he was on a mission for food.
We have a lot of critters with offspring who are still being fed by their mothers. Please be aware of your surroundings when outside and don't get too far from your small animals. We do live in a bit of wilderness.

You won't see me post anything. Ever. If I do it's a response on a house tip or "help me find x" type post. I am on there because a neighbor I know in real life (really good people btw) asked me to join to start up a presence for our side of HR. So I did.

We get updates on crime and other goings on. If a neighbor needed help I would like to know if I can help. I hear about things from DougCo Sheriff before they hit the news and are filtered.

BTW, the webs are now giving up (for free) far more info than most people voluntarily provide to the socials anyway. Plug yourself into this...

Some pretty funny stuff on our neighborhood's FB page recently. So this weekend the pool to the west was closed because of an electrical fire that made it unsafe to be near the pool... bummer, guess they'll have to go to the pool on the east side of the development. Well, yesterday a kid pooped on the deck close enough to the pool to cause an issue that had to close the pool down for decontamination. Now all the housewives are losing their shit because they can't take their kiddos to the pool while they aren't in school. One lady even made a "poop deck" navy joke out of the whole fiasco- most didn't find it funny at all.

I have an idea of which house it is.

I think my idea of 'bad' vs what others may consider 'bad' may be quite different. I've got a trailer parked on the side of our driveway on our property, and I don't think twice about it. They don't have trash on their lawn that I recall. Then again, if anyone approaches me about the way our front yard looks, I cheerfully ask them if they think pink flamingos will clash with the Broncos-themed blue-and-orange astroturf we're thinking of putting in?

I am a huge fan of no HOA = do what you want with YOUR property.

As far as the sniping neighbrs in the Nextdoor site...I think they just hate each other.

Just wait until it gets closer to July 4th. We'll have TONS of quibbling posts about fireworks.

Just this last Saturday I saw a pickup with 6-8 GIANT pink flamingos in the back (they were sticking up above the cab)... I should have taken a picture

[ROFL1]

There must be a lot of background missing from that post!

I have a love/hate with the HOA. I don't like another layer of government but I also don't like it when a neighborhood goes downhill. Equally worse, when there is no HOA and busybodies take it upon themselves to police the neighborhood (happened in my Parker subdivision).

LMAO!

Our one-(wo)man self-appointed HOA would have absolute fits.

And you know I'd decorate it for every holiday, too.

When an HOA works for you, I agree. Most of the are extortionistic busybodies that charge you money for the privilege of informing you that you cannot install a brass kickplate on your door, or that you can only have two vehicles or some other bullshit.

We've got a thread on Nextdoor going on about three houses that may or may not be abandoned on a specific street, and their yards look like hell- what can be done? Every year it's the same. One year, the home owner turned out to be an elderly invalid, so the neighbors got together and worked a rotating schedule for lawn care for him. :) There are times when Nextdoor's power can be used for good.

Then there are other times when it provides the Hatfields and the McCoys more ammo for continued warfare...

We are in a covenant (no HOA fees) "community". They actually have it so one must be approved for something as simple as a storm door. We will likely stay here long enough for the home value to appreciate enough to move out. Don't want to be in a HOA anymore. I'd rather have Uncle Cletus' rusting, on blocks 68 Ford next door and be able to do whatever the heck I want/need w/ my house. Goal will be to move to a place w/ a little land. Being in an HOA brings out my feisty libertarian streak (concerning issues not of moral importance).

I hear ya. We have a voluntary HOA for those that feel the desperate need to pay to belong to something, and there are some covenants that came with the place. Most of them made sense: leave a 3' easement in the back yard for workers installing cable, no roosters, and stuff like that. The one that infuriates me is that the Architectual something-or-other has to give their 'permission' in order to change our sliding glass deck door to french doors. I don't know why. It doesn't affect us right now (but may in the future if we decide to go that route), and I understand that DC won't allow any permits to be pulled without the committee's approval...but it chaps my butt just the same.

Where specifically is this location for a new range? Is it at the intersection of Quebec and County Line where the Safeway used to be? I'm not familiar with any 24 Hour Fitness location in that shopping center.

TheGrey
06-18-2017, 18:33
The layout of the shopping center is pretty crappy. There's a large building behind the building that used to house the Safeway shopping center, and I believe that's where the gun shop may go in. Unless the hand-flapper contingent of Willow Creek has anything to say about it...

Yeah, I used to have a dentist on the backside of the Safeway that faced the other building you're referring to. I remember seeing exercise equipment, but didn't know it was a 24 Hour. It's kind of an odd structure for a range.

As we were waiting for the Parker fireworks show to start, sitting at the northernmost ballfield at Salisbury Park, I saw a few that appeared to be set off from a nearby backyard barely leave the ground before exploding. I commented to the wife that there was bound to be a fire at some point. Shortly after, we saw the light of a fire in a grove of trees.

Some event attendees or staff jumped over the barriers and they, or someone from a nearby residence, managed to put it out.

So there is some dumfuckery going on with some of the revelers.

The red/blue lights could be seen shortly after through the still present smoke.

The local Colorado Springs news (KOAA at least) has been fawning over some Pueblo student (pillar of the community, everyone likes him, blah, blah, blah) who was severly injured when a firework he was lighting went off prematurely. KOAA helpfully supplied a pointer to the go fund me account that the family setup to help with medical bills.

My take: Self inflicted, he doesn't deserve it.

Unfortunately [IMHO] the go fund me account has exceeded its goal. Oh well, nowadays there's a sucker born every 30 seconds (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There%27s_a_sucker_born_every_minute).

Over the 4th of July holiday this year, West Metro responded to nine fires caused by fireworks, including this one in the 3300 block of South Newcombe in Lakewood. Fireworks caught the fence on fire and the flames traveled to the homes on either side.

West Metro crews responded to two more fires on Thursday that were sparked by fireworks. The one pictured- in the Bear Creek Greenbelt near Estes Street and West Cornell Avenue. Another fire - in the 2500 block of South Sheridan. Again - our district is under high fire danger right now.

I think we have a winner here:

"Strange happenings in our skies
A little before 9:30pm tonight I heard the sound of an approaching helicopter and went out on my deck to check it out. I saw it approaching from the southwest and it was heading northeast. As it was flying past a little to the west of my house on Bow Mountain Rd, I saw it deploy what I suspect was a drone. As the helicopter flew on, it deployed a second, and finally a third. They hovered in place for a short while. Once the helicopter was gone, there was no sound whatsoever from these objects. I watched for a while as the first and third object flew east and the second headed west. The third craft flew directly over my house but no sound was heard.

This was very strange. Did anyone else happen to see this or know what this might be? I'd really like to know."

FYI this is a bit west of the north end of Boulder in the foothills.

DUST @ AMAZON construction site
If you have noticed the amount coming off the Amazon construction site and think it is a problem, please contact Tom Lovell with the State Air Pollution Control Division. Tom said no one has complained and therefore Amazon will continue to mitigate with ONE WATER TRUCK. You can reach Tom at 303-692-3204. Call and let him know if you notice blowing dust leaving the Amazon Construction Site. Amazon is responsible for ensuring they mitigate the dust so that it does not leave the property.

Feel Bad for Me Response
1. I live directly due east of the Amazon building site, along the open space in Quail Valley. I am getting lots of dirt on my patio....have to hose down every time before using my patio. Also, I try not to open my west-facing windows because of all the dirt blowing towards us.

Sarcastic Responses
2. Wow! Some people complain just about anything. They're digging their building it's going to kick up dust. Get over yourself.

3. Oh no, dust. That's a problem. Let's do some more fracking and prevent any decent restaurants or entertainment from coming to Thornton, maybe we can get some more muffler shops and industrial sites here. Sorry folks, I hate to go troll, but seriously, what are the priorities here?

Actual Helpful Response
4. There is a fine balance between too little and too much water in dust control. Too much water is actually a larger issue! Too little and there is way too much dust, to the point of a constant cloud over the site during work. (not the case currently)

Too much causes issues with the state storm water management (CDPHD). This is heavily regulated to prevent dirt and other items in the storm water systems. As pointed out above all exits from the site are required to have 'Vehicle tracking pads" (large rocks at the driveways) to remove most of the dirt/mud from vehicles to prevent tracking on to the drive paths and getting into the storm water systems. They also have erosion control plans to prevent the dirt from washing away from the site and again into the storm water system.

???

Directly east of the Amazon warehouse is open space, then E470, then the Prologis industrial park, then a natural gas compressor station, then more open space, then an electrical station and an Anadarko plant. East of that is pretty much nothing until you get to Watkins. I'm not sure where this person thinks they live that is "directly due east" of the construction.

144th and Washington.

The person who wrote the complaint is most likely one of the people who actively campaigned against the nearby fracking site. How is it that people buy a tenth of an acre plot in a large residential community and then come to believe that they can tell anyone else who buys large acreage sites what they can do with their property? If someone wants to be surrounded with open space then buy some land or find something next to a cemetery or a national park.

As for dust, really? It is Colorado. It is summer. We could use some rain. So happy I stopped using Nextdoor.

What I love about St. Thomas Moore is the crosses they put out every year to mark all the fetuses murdered by Dems. That must drive the Willows nuts as they have to see it every time they leave their safe space. Last year I wrote STM a check.

Break in
My husband and I live with our large dog on 5th and Vrain. Friday night at 8:35 someone smashed through the glass of our back door and ransacked our bedroom. They didn't seem to find anything thankfully. They attempted to give our dog chocolate (probably to keep him quiet) and they unhooked our tv but didn't take it. We are taking extra measures to make sure our home is secure and you should too!

I have reported this information to the police.

Get some squirt bottles and put rubbing alcohol in them and keep them on hand so you can squirt them in the eyes.

The ultimate fart fan?

Maybe.

Without seeing the rest of the house, my concern would be that someone cut part of their Radon Mitigation system off and then put that filter on it to... I don't know... prevent crap from falling into the basement through the pipe?

Some people...

I was wondering if it was connected to the dryer vent.

I'm just guessing here, but:

If so, they are like trying to utilize the dryer exhaust for a supplemental basement heat source, and are using the K-N style intake filter to mitigate humidity/moisture. There are better systems out there.

Another possibility is a work-around to outside venting issues, possibly requiring a booster fan, that they didn't want to deal with/spend $$ on.

Hard to say without going on-site.

ETA: mis-read the above post about it NOT being connected to dryer vent.

Well when the neighbor’s across the street package ended up on my porch due to their mother miss-addressing, I carried it over to them. Even though I didn’t know their names yet.
Through the process of deductive reasoning, I determined that the small child’s bicycle (them having the only young boy of the appropriate age at the time) belonged to them. And no, I didn’t open the package, the UPS labels were stuck onto the factory box.

I chased down a contract UPS delivery driver two blocks away because he delivered someone else's package instead of my laptop replacement - I was leaving town the next day. Guess where I found him? He had run his whole route in our subdivision back assward and was just looking at the package ID codes or something like that and route instructions, never bothering to check the addresses.

Florida: My brother is a mechanic for a County.

He's on call 1 week every month or so, to repair anything related to the firetrucks in the county.
He brings home the shop service truck, standard 1 ton, job box etc. It wouldn't fit in the garage if he tried. In the driveway it goes.
Nasty letters from the subdivision about said truck being against the rules etc.

He figured it would happen. So he just leaves it at work, it takes him an extra 30 minutes to drive to the shop, pick up the truck, drive to the "emergency" repair at some fire station. Lather rinse repeat.

Same thing happened during the last hurricane. All county vehicles were taken home with employees for emergency purposes - many letters went out to folks.

If the people only thought about or asked about the vehicle, they might think twice about the delays in response on some things.

Time to park "Miss Agnes" in the driveway.

Fans of the John D. MacDonald literary character Travis McGee have wondered for decades what a real Miss Agnes -- McGee’s Rolls-Royce pickup truck -- might look like. But for all those concepts, drawings and imaginary exercises that never got made, there is at least one that made it into reality.
If you are a Travis McGee fan you know this isn’t really Miss Agnes. Its the wrong color. Miss Agnes, who appears in each of the 21 McGee novels is a 1936 electric blue Rolls Royce pickup truck. Here’s how she is described by Travis in Bright Orange for the Shroud.
"Because of the boat errands, I had Miss Agnes parked nearby, my electric blue Rolls pickup truck, an amateur conversion accomplished by some desperate idiot during her checkered past. She is not yet old enough to vote. But almost. She started with a touch, and I went along the beach to where…"

https://kemptonexpress.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/30/2018/03/squatter-camp7-Cust_81863.jpg

HOAs became popular as people started realizing they could no longer afford flight to keep themselves in a good neighborhood. So they created an artificial system (more gov) and it's been modestly successful--but it is voluntary which is key. Our house is now 20 years old and the neighborhood is very desirable. Compare to Aurora where I grew up and in 20 years ('77-95ish) it went completely downhill.

HOAs have certainly gone full potato in some places! WC is full of closeted and not-so-closeted Lib statists who love this kind of stuff.

HR isn't that bad as long as you don't intentionally test the rules. There are many violations, some on my own block, that have gone unnoticed. Other odd things do get noticed but are minor (leaving the trash cans out too long).

If you compare some HOAs to some city's ordinances, the HOAs are sometimes better, and you have more legal protection.

But it's not for everyone. If I had all the toys/time I wanted I probably wouldn't live here. Since I am money/time limited, all I need for now is a house in a safe neighborhood for the family, and decent resell value.

TheGrey
08-12-2018, 20:04
Our neighborhood has a voluntary HOA; not many people in the neighborhood belong to it. We've got very few covenants- stuff like easements for cable, etc no mining or oil operations shall be conducted on the property and so on.

No HOA was one of our criteria in purchasing our home. I personally bristle at the very idea of anyone telling us what to do with property we have paid for.

I have no doubt a correction is coming, but having an HOA or not isn't going to be the deciding factor in the correction. I also don't think the correction here in the denver area is going to be very extreme. There will still be enough demand that it'll reduce the impact of the correction.

Irving
08-12-2018, 21:46
Correction definitely coming. Denver may not be affected very hard, IF the rest of the country can hold itself together for a while. In 10 months, we'll break the record for time between recessions in the US.

No HOA here, and most properties look pretty good. Nosey neighbors can call code enforcement just as easily as they can call an HOA. Almost every single rural property I've ever seen looks like the picture above though, including my own.

I submit that most city properties are just not large enough to look terrible. I bet if a study was done, there'd be a pretty strong correlation showing that as acreage goes up, the capacity to be filled with garbage goes up.

I survived Aurora and lived in Parker for two years. Nice middle class houses. Neighbor next to me sold to a sporty every other weekend DV couple. Parker PD out often. Multiple cars on blocks in the side yard next to my property. He moved into an RV parked in front of the house—not making this up.

Got transferred after 9/11 and had to sell to move in two months. Next to that.

I can see both sides.

My dream house doesn’t have an HOA. Or neighbors I can see or hear. And our HOA is no good for neighbor conflict issues. They only enforce the regs for their benefit. Like I said and Irving touched on, the law has more bit in that space than HOAs.

Very true
Here it's a cross section of stick built, manufactured and single wides. Keeping in mind the area has seen growth in the last 5 years with those old single wides at one time being way off the grid. Shit piled up alongside and sometimes the back part of their acreage, yet no one cares. From the few we've met, i gather a serious issue is self correcting. $148/quarter for us. We have no special assessments, some others do.

That also gets access to the rec centers at no cost. My oldest is there now working on his swimming before school starts. We used to go the gym several times a week before I had stuff in my basement. Much cheaper than a club.

I think they use some of that to maintain the trails and open space too, but I'm not sure how that works.

The same can happen with the sheriff/LE, a county commissioner, or some other wannabe dictator at any level of gov. And we all know LE can't enforce all the laws, all the time. Kind of like the code inspectors... Give them enough time and they can find violations all day long.

This just came across the feed... Pearl clutching, know-nothing hand wringer on next door, living in a rural area where shooting is permitted on one's own land:

Shots Fired
Ok, Perry Park and Perry Park East neighbors in Larkspur, who ever this person is firing shots off NEEDS TO STOP DOING THAT!!! Do not shoot the animals, nor fire shots in the air because as you SHOULD know, what goes up, must come down!! A hot bullet landing on a house. trees, or even the grass can set a blaze to our entire town!! Stop firing off shots NOW!! Furthermore, stop shooting at our wildlife!! I’ve let this go before without saying a word, but I’m done not speaking up because I DO NOT want my yard, or house on fire, and I sure don’t want one of my furry babies, nor myself or my spouse accidentally hit by one or two of your stray bullets!! Now, knock it off and stop shooting your guns in our neighborhood!!

She gets called out by more than a few people, and then she posts this gem:

Number one: I know what gunfire sounds like due to the fact that I was trained in depth about fire weapons! I KNOW those were gun shots yesterday!! Number two: I’m not from California missy poo!! Number3: I get worried BECAUSE, we have homes here in Larkspur, beautiful trees, grass, gorgeous wildlife, and people who live here in Larkspur too that could accidentally get a stray bullet in our guts!! The grass has been dry again and the trees have too, do you realize all it takes is ONE bullet that’s still really HOT from being fired to land on the grass or in a tree and it COULD EASILY START A FIRE!! Just ask our Sheriff’s Dept. if you don’t believe me!! They will be glad to teach you a thing or two about everything I just stated!! This is still America and we do have freedom of speech as long as it is decently stated, I did not cut down anyone in my first statement about the shots being fired yesterday, but I did speak from a protective and sensible point of view!! Stop passing judgement on me, especially when you are highly incorrect about me!! I had many neighbors thank me for saying something and speaking up about it. Some of you though who chewed me out for saying something about gunfire knowing I was coming from a protective stand point of view, you sound like you don’t care if our livelihood is burned to the ground or not and you are the ones everyone needs to worry about and maybe you should go back to wherever you came from!! 🤗

And followed it up with this:

What’s ridiculous about these neighborhood websites is that it seems like some people just want to pick fights no matter what anyone posts! Instead of trying to pick a fight with someone who posts how they feel about something, why can’t you arguers just simply say, “ I agree to disagree. “ instead of saying hateful things, or continuously make the wrong statements about the one who was trying to show concern?? For the record too, I did call Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and they stated it IS legal to shoot a firearm out here in Larkspur. However, the person behind the firearm needs to be licensed to shoot their firearm, and best have a license for what they are shooting Brit a turkey or deer. Mountain Lions and Bears are NOT to be shot. If you see one or the other, call in your sighting, but do not shoot it. You can be held liable for killing a Mountain Lion, or a Bear!! The ONLY time you possibly could get away with it is if you are defending yourself and even then, you better have proof of self-defense!! Also, if you do shoot your firearm where people do live, you must pick up your bullet shells because bullet shells are a choking hazard to children, as well as, a physical hazard to them!! Just reciting some firearm rules there about shooting firearms. 👍👍

I'm so glad she is here to let us know about the rules concerning fire weapons!

I keep my ammo in the freezer so celebratory gunfire doesn’t start fires when it lands on roofs, trees, and bouffant hair held up by way too much aqua net.

All I got from the last lady was a reminder to shoot a gun with a big case. Anyone over there better shoot .50 BMG or bigger. You know, so kids don't choke.

It’s been my experience that whenever a person gives a long, drawn out explanation on basic knowledge they typically know nothing about said subject.

[ROFL3]

Why is it always about the children?

And I think the child who eats brass off the ground is probably not long for this world.

Never thought of the choking hazard. The ATF needs to let us buy GAU-8s so we can engage in our Second Amendment rights without one of the chilluns possibly choking on the brass ...

I don't know if everyone can see this but one of the neighborhood libs posted an ad for a Mom's Demand Action rally. I and several other neighbors have decided to rain on her parade.

Happy to see the dogpile on that one.

Thread has everything... "gun violence, loopholes, keeping guns out of the wrong hands" and a hypothetical scenario that is impossible; buying a gun at Kmart.

You guys aren't doing a great job. Why has no one pointed out that there is no waiting period in Colorado? Why has no one pointed out the equally obvious point that a gun purchase is a one time event. If some husband or wife is "deranged," then they are deranged all the time, not just when they go to buy a gun. People very rarely buy guns out of anger or while angry, but that is when they use them. So a deranged person buying a gun during a calm period waiting three days (which again is not the case in Colorado), then using the gun later saved exactly zero lives and didn't even register on the meter of goodness.

This AND a waiting period keeps someone that has just discovered that they have an angry and dangerous person in their life threatening them (in possession of a weapon they purchased years ago) and they get to sit helplessly "cooling off" while said angry and dangerous person is free to murder them at their whim.

The reason anti-gunners look so stupid discussing gun laws is that 99% of them know NOTHING about (a) guns or (b) law.

So that kind of handicaps them in the "conversation." They are pretty much reduced to shouting out somebody else's talking points or just shrieking like Helen Lovejoy: "Won't somebody please think of the children?"

That's a great example to show along side that argument.

If you really believed your life was in danger and the only thing you did was go shopping for a gun, well then not all action was taken. Obviously don't hand them the easy counter argument when you drop that example though. Goes a long way when paired with that article.

It's even worse because you're a vet!

Last year some A-hole neighbor was doing a box of mortars at 3:30am. It was actually the morning of the day I culled my roosters. Those fireworks made that rooster start crowing every 30 minutes from when they went off to when I off'd him that afternoon.

Fireworks are a HOT topic on Nextdoor right now. All I know is there are truckloads of them being purchased by people in my neighborhood. It’s going to be a loud and bright evening for he next 2days.

The local news has been running stories for people to not call 911 to report fireworks.

News story today is asking those that live in neighborhoods around the Douglas Co. STEM School to not light fireworks in the fear it may trigger PTSD in students that live in the area.

The Ring neighborhood app has had people reporting "gunshots" for weeks now.

It's been fun trying to educate the n00bs about fireworks here in CO. If you hear "gunshots", and it's +/- 1 month of July, yeah, it's probably fireworks. If you had more range time, you'd also know the difference.

I live in Westminster. We are allowed to shoot off the legal ones today and tomorrow. I think maybe even the 5th. We also have a larger list of ?legal fireworks? than most cities. Pretty much everything that is sold at a Colorado stand or store. Trust me, some of these are loud and some down right obnoxious. Took the kid to Old Glory off of federal and spent some $$$. Our culdesac has 2 dog residents and they both like fireworks. No vets. Younger couples who like fireworks. And beers. Going to be a fun few days/ nights.

My neighbor was on the board in Thornton that got us this stupid "100% of fireworks are illegal and we're going to waste city funds on dumbass signs to tell everyone" business this year. He kept pestering me to be on the board, but I knew it was going to be a bunch of dumbshit old cat ladies and other whiners weaving a beautiful tapestry of potato decisions, so I passed. Sorry Thornton.
All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.

Anyway, as to the quoted post, that seems to be what they do in Nebraska. Blow off what you like for two-three days surrounding the Fourth with strict time limits, and they don't have the problem of people being obnoxious for a month on either side of the holiday.

Try living next to Fort Cartoon. The house shakes on the high end of the Richter scale. The gunships are so loud passing overhead, you have to stop speaking. If you have PTSD don't move to Pueblo West, it is just like a war zone with coyotes howling. The cool part is you can usually find MRE's at any yard sale.
