So the other week while leaving work I ran over a rock slide that had just occurred. The helpful young cop shined her flashlight into my windshield to try to warn me about the slide, but oddly enough in the rain and dark all this did was make it so I couldn't see the rock slide...

this is caused my turbo, transmission, steering and suspension to be messed up / acting wonky, and the engine has started leaking and smoking as well...

the insurance adjuster came fake and checked out the car yesterday, and was stating that the turbo and part of the engine that's leaking wasn't struck by the rocks and that they would fix the exhaust and steering. :/

im wondering if anyone here has any experience fighting an appraisal or any advice for how to handle this. Still waiting on the detailed report on the inspection (which should arrive today), and if you're curious the insurance company is USAA

thabks for any and all help

I fought a USAA appraisal once. The initial appraiser was a contractor, not a USAA employee. I just called USAA and asked for a second look with one of their own appraisers. Everything went fine then.

If you are a USAA member you can critique them within the website. Make sure you do that if don't get satisfaction.

You are entitled to an independent estimate, but be aware that you may have to pay the repair shop for their time working it up. I do this a lot for motorcycle repairs, as many insurance companies don't have dedicated motorcycle adjusters, and the car guys tend to make a lot of assumptions(paint and body repair vs. replacing a damaged gas tank, for instance), and their estimates tend to be way low.
