Have USAA and just looked at our May renewal for auto. Going up $500 every 6mos. This is crazy. Any idea what is driving this? Uninsured? We have clean records/no accidents.

I would give them call- sounds like a mistake. Our USAA went up like $20 bucks per month.

Illegals, dopers, californicators, yeast coasters. All played a major part in auto ins increase. Throw in a few hail storms, serious wind damage and it all adds up.

Sounds like an error to me. We had a similar deal happen a few years ago. We called and they were like "Whoops!" and it went back to normal.

If it doesn't work out, check into esurance (now part of Allstate I guess). We have been with them for a decade or so and they have been awesome with the few incidents we've had. And I price shop rates now and then - they're always the best for us. YMMV

This.

My Statefarm has been pretty reasonable with the rate increases, but it's gone up as well. I talked to the agent (been with him since I was 16, so has most of my family) and he said that the number of under/uninsured vehicles in CO since 2014 has skyrocketed, and the underwriters have been consistently raising rates since. I also know that the big storms the last few years has cause home insurance to go up drastically as well...

Last years hail storm, but as others have already said, that much of an increase is probably due to an error.

It's been estimated that up to 1/3 of your total insurance premium is to cover losses from fraud claims.

My renewal went down $10 for the year. Seems about right for once.

Insurance claims in CO have skyrocketed, and rates will as well.

Be glad you have a clean record, your increase would have been even more.

Call your agent to have them review your policy and rates as well

Ours went up 1500 with Travelers this year between home and autos. We just switched and we are about the same as last year now.

My auto with State farm jumped from $119/mo to $328/mo! No accidents, tickets, credit has gone up since last year, etc. I will be calling them on my days off to see if it's an error, if not, bye bye State Farm, it's been nice knowing you the last 18 years.

My wife is insured through Geico, as they had the best rates for her tainted driving record, it may be cheaper to bundle both cars and renters through them.

Ayup, I had Geico for years and never filed a claim, had a ticket or anything. Earlier this year they sent me an increase notice of $100.00 per mo.
Everything but the illegals and dope were mentioned when I called to cancel my policy.

Expect that companies that once were the cheapest in the auto market will change, and companies that never used to be competitive now are.

Has your credit score changed ? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. So many factors are considered in premium calculations.

Post a picture of your last dec page, and your renewal Dec page. Without showing your personal info of course. Then we can see exactly which coverage has increased.

So I called today. Basically it was a CO wide rate increase and also because of uninsured. I am taking one of the vehicles off (Jeep CJ7) and going to do a classic auto policy on that and that saves about $400 a year.

Curious how much the Uninsured and under insured motorist coverage actually changed as a percentage of the total rate increase.

We were with progressive for about 8 years until the premium increase was just too much to handle.

I went to 2 insurance agency and signed same limit with State Farm for 500 less semi-annual.

I realized that loyalty to fire/casualty company does not pay off.

I just hope that state farm has as good customers service as progressive.

I bailed on Liberty, they were cranking my rates $50 per month every year so I went through my company and got the same coverage for 1/3 the price.

Liberty's excuses were population increase and dope.

Been with USAA for over 25 years, we just had our auto policy renewal, no change at all.

Had a meeting with our American Family agent.
He explained that with advanced data bases, the company measures more factors then they did in the past and adjust rates using more advanced statistics.
Our auto rates went down substantially.
Go figure??

Looks like your companies have made a mistake. The right thing to do would be to call your respective agents and let them know, in no uncertain terms, that you're sure that Colorado is rife with illegals and pot smokers and ask for, no demand a rate increase.
