View Full Version : RDS on a 1911 - Bert
I see that Springfield is offering a 10mm 1911 with an RDS. What are the concerns surrounding the milling of a 1911 slide for an RDS?
I'm doing some reading, I see that this has been going on for a few years now, the Trijicon RMR is a little wide for a 1911 though.

Use a doctor sight don’t use the trijicon. They cost more and fail more
Every review I've read about the Trijicon is very positve, I owned and used a Doctor and it was OK but nothing about it makes me want to get another.

Love my RMR. Mounted on my PPQ Q4 TAC. I don't have a lot of round through it yet, only about 500. But so far it is good.

What are you basing that assessment on?

From using them and having them fail. My doctors have never failed me.

So what you are saying is; If you like your Doctor, you get to keep your Doctor.
Fortunately you are much more honest than the last guy who said that. [LOL]

Type 1 or Type 2?

To mount a RMR on a 1911 you must use an adapter plate because the 1911 slide is much narrower than a Glock or M&P.
Series 80 complicates things a tad.

But doable? I always wondered how that would work with the Novak style rear sight cuts.

Thank you.
Found a Trijicon plate with integrated rear sight - https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=CA428-C-600757
I was looking at some pix and the overhang looks significant relative to the slide. Maybe Trijicon will produce a narrower RMR for slimmer pistols.

Anything is doable with the right amount of clients willing to spend it.
