...if my wife can finish in the kitchen.

The neighbors, a retired couple, are joining us on a 3, maybe 4, day camping trip over the Magruder Corridor Road. It winds through the Selway Bitterroot and Frank Church River of no Return wilderness areas. 110 miles of primitive road and primitive camping.

My wife seems to think we're heading off on some sort of extended expedition with maybe 100 or so people to feed. If a freak snow storm traps us til next spring I have no doubt we'll come out when the now melts having gained a substantial amount of weight on the food she's prepped. We got into an argument over having enough cooler space. She said we had plenty, I said we needed at least one more. Well, even I underestimated her ability to over-prepare. I did, however, buy two more coolers because they were on a wicked sale at Sportsman's Warehouse over the weekend.

So now we need both of the extra coolers. Seriously...we're not gonna even touch most of the stuff she's cooked and the other stuff she bought. She came home from the grocery store yesterday with her 7 reusable bags and 9 store bags...all for the trip with the exception of some frozen orange juice.

My suggested list consisted of: coffee, coffee pot, smoked salmon, (neighbors are bringing) steaks, potatoes, onions, bacon, eggs, jerky, apples and a few little snacks. Plus the normal camping utensils and such.

She's made at least 3 different kinds of cookies, potato salad, 2 different fruit salads, regular salad, two different kinds of bread plus two packages of rolls, egg salad, chicken salad, sauces for the salad, brats (that's a pretty good call), and I can't even begin to remember what else. And most of that stuff is packed in Tupperware. Oh, yeah...we still have all the stuff from my list.

The only good news is I'm probably gonna need a bigger truck so I'm gonna head down and check out the new F-550 before we leave.

This past weekend while elk hunting, my buddy and I cooked dinner and breakfast using a single jetboil using what dry food he put in his pack. I wanna come with you. Sounds nice.

Suggest to her that bears also love all that same food and maybe you'll get to leave some of it behind.

An F-550 will have to be commercially insured, just so you know.

Going to need to pack bigger pants

My vehicle is commercially insured, now that I'm retired-ish maybe I need to revisit my policy eh?

Oh & yay glamping!

Mine is too, and it's the least expensive policy I've ever had in my life, with the best coverage. I think that is because of the type of vehicle though.

Hmm. Have you even factored in how many coolers to take for the beer?

Going to need to pack bigger pants

I was thinking the same thing.

Very valid and insightful question there. It needed to be asked!

I don't need much beer. Bourbon. And coffee. I get enough water when I brush my teeth.

In 2005 my Battalion CSM once proudly stated to a medic he hadn't drank water since 1981 or something ridiculous.

He later passed out on the FOB due to dehydration while riding a confiscated Jawa motorcycle.

My fave one though was when he clotheslined himself on our platoon parking spot's engineer tape rear border.

Dude, I want to 'rough it' with you guys. How many table cloths did you pack? [Coffee]

FFS...I hope she doesn't think of that. I'll have to pack the freakin' dining room table in the truck.

If only I had some potato salad. - not a phrase you'd ever, ever, ever use.

This potato salad is delicious dear. Mmmmmm

Next time, you can toss that phrase in while you're thinking about baseball. [Flower]

That looks like it would work for just 2 people.

My wife also plans for a repeat of the Donner expedition every time we go out. 2 of us, and 2 Shihtzus. I feel lucky if we only bring back 2 full coolers of food and beverages. From a 2 day trip.

Just got home, with a shit-load of uneaten food, a little while ago.

Beautiful trip. Highly recommended if you're ever up this way.

Was watching Arial America a couple of weeks ago and they were covering Idaho and highlighted the Frank Church River of no Return area. Was really amazing.

Glad to hear you guys had a good time....and didn't starve. [Coffee]

Is that what they call "glamping"?

Glad to see I'm not the only one that watches the Smithsonian Channel!
I will have to look for that episode.

If you had an Earth Roamer, you could have stayed until the food was obviously running out.

It's not unusual for me to get up on weekend mornings before the wife and head to my home office. I flip on the TV and my Dish receiver anticipates what I watch against what's on...and there's Arial America on Smithsonian. There's usually nothing else on and I'm not in the mood for music while I'm on the computer, so I just let it run, and one of them was Idaho. I like history, I like Idaho, and who knows, maybe I accidentally learn something.

I'm not a fan of PBS, for a lot of reasons. Liberal political bias being tops on the list.

But the PBS station here runs a weekly series called "Outdoor Idaho". It's fantastic with no political bias at all. Turned on the episode from Thurs that was DVR'd while we were gone and it was about the history of Idaho's fire lookout towers. Really a fantastic piece and shed some good light on a few places we saw on our trip.

To piggy-back on the Idaho PBS thing, I didn't realize you can watch many of the Outdoor Idaho programs for free on the Idaho PBS website.

Here's a link to a program about some of the Idaho backroads, including a piece on the Magruder Corridor for anyone interested: https://video.idahoptv.org/video/outdoor-idaho-backroad-adventures/

And, if you're like me and don't like to watch most "normal" TV, here's a link to a ton of episodes. It really is good TV, fun to watch with the family: http://idahoptv.org/outdoors/oi_Library.cfm

Some of them are several years old but still worth watching.

Very cool. Emailed the links to my wife, as our 3.5 year old loves outdoors programs.
