Be afraid, be very afraid...

Only full implementation of the progressive agenda can save you.

I think I'm safe. I pray to Obama and Clinton every morning, only eat soy, and scream whenever I hear the word "gun."

---

Dave Sanders was a hero at Columbine, no doubt. On one hand I really like that they are focusing on a hero in a "mass shooting" and not the monster. This is a story that needs to be told, who knows how many lives Sanders saved that day?

OTOH, there is another permanent reminder of Columbine for all who drive by on a public highway and a reminder we didn't need for 20 years until now.

This officially passed as a house resolution today! Exit 7 to Exit 15 on C-470 will be called the Dave Sanders Memorial Highway. #9News

I have no problem remembering and memorializing great Americans, and Sanders certainly seems to be one from everything I've read! But it seems like there is an effort to make sure the cloud of Columbine hangs over this state.

History is a double edged sword. If you remember it, your holding onto the past. If you don't, people who do ridicule you for not knowing your history.

Indeed! Which is why I like Sanders' story being told. I guess I just can't help but see an ulterior motive in this after 20 years and the media anniversary celebration. Am I wrong?

I love seeing the Danny Dietz sign on south Santa Fe. He died serving his nation (us) and that memorial was done immediately. People casually forget that we lost a lot of service members in GWOT.

20 years ago things weren't the same as they are now. The fear mongering was not as bad, so the need for heroes wasn't as strong either.

Dammit!

This is why we needed that mandatory vaccine bill!!!!

Now we're all going to die well before AOC's 12 year estimate.

I really enjoy visiting his memorial...

Media reports that JeffCo Schools could close and demo Columbine due to constant media focus on Columbine...

(okay, they didn't admit that last part)

Should Columbine High School be demolished? Jeffco school officials 'exploring' the idea

Glass – who detailed the possible plan in an open letter to the Jeffco Public Schools community, titled "A New Columbine?" – told Denver7 that the school is "constantly under pressure" from people stopping by the campus, either out of innocent fascination or attempts to enter the building illegally.

"We have hundreds of people who try to enter the building or walk onto the grounds or slow-roll by it," Glass said. "We even have tour buses of people that stop outside Columbine High School. It's just a constant threat to the kids that are there."

After the mass murder I thought the school should carry on in order to disempower anyone else from thinking they had the power to close down schools. Minimize the damage. Kids needed to accept and move on as well. Columbine had just been renovated in the late 90s. I had been there several times before/after the renno.

But now... This is a problem. Consider each one of those "visitors" in light of the media hype and copycats.

Columbine is like a sacred site for the anti-gun groups and media (who are not necessarily exclusive groups in 2019) and it's telling that the school would remain open for 20 years but now possibly have to close because of the intense focus on school shootings.

The lib-tards/media won't let anyone move forward, so I get where they're coming from.

I've heard of similar strategies with the excuse being "it's for the children". If something like this would have happened when I was young, they would have spackled over the bullet holes in the wall and people would move on. I don't agree with destroying a building for that reason.

With Columbine, the lib-tards simply can't let it go, 'cuz the agenda. I don't even think you could name the new school "Columbine High School".

That high school was built in 1973. It could just be time to remodel,or rebuild and th district is playing that angle to get funding. Who knows.

Agree.

I even wonder if they could build at the same site with a different name? It's not like there are options in that part of town for another location but it seems like it would be for the best.

They could turn the current site into a larger memorial by the park.

Taxpayers is the answer.

How localized is the tax base that will be on the hook for it?

Jefferson County

From the news I just heard no the radio, it would have to be approved by taxpayers. The powers that be in JeffCo are trying to make sure the word gets out that these are currently 'just discussions'.

It was pretty heavily renovated after the shooting. The library doesn't even exist anymore where it used to.

District decides not to demolish Columbine High School (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/district-decides-not-to-demolish-columbine-high-school/ar-AAEOdA1)

The Jefferson County School District has decided against the demolition and replacement of Columbine High School, according to a letter sent to parents by the district superintendent.

“While this concept has supporters and merits, there are also valid concerns that were raised,” Superintendent Jason E. Glass wrote in the letter. "It is clear to me that no consensus direction exists to rebuild the school.”

What an idiotic waste of tax dollars. I went to high school in a school built in 1929 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wichita_North_High_School) and it was perfectly functional.

As if tearing down Columbine and rebuilding would keep the dysfunctionals from obsessing over it anyway. It's the "idea" of Columbine they are infatuated with. The idea is still there whether the physical building is there or not. And people who are infatuated with it will be infatuated with a new building meant to replace it.

The obsession lies somewhat (honestly in my mind solely) on the shoulders of the local and national media that cant help but remind all of us every year on the aniversary.

I think the STEM school approach will prove out to be the best way to deal with these events.

The place is a focal point each anniversary annual celebration in the media. They get hundreds of people at the school each year who are just curious and trespass. Really hard to deal with the signal/noise on that as we get more RSOs and talk about proactive approaches (teacher CCW).

I agree legitimate nutters/monsters are going to create their own Columbine even if the school is demo'd.

If the media could just stop blood dancing maybe this wouldn't be an issue? There is just something about Colorado and "mass shooters" that the media puts together like peanut butter and jelly usually because of Columbine. I would support anything to decrease/stop this.

Sandy Hook was demo'd and, maybe it's local bias, but you don't see this intense interest in that school. Unlike Columbine there are a lot of unanswered/odd circumstances surrounded SH and still less interest. Those people trespassing at Columbine aren't going to solve any mysteries because everything at this point is known, yet they still come.

It's one thing to be obsessed with something, it's quite another to be able to visit the place of your obsession.

I don't know. There's no good answers here.
