View Full Version : state of the union address
I didn't watch from beginning to end, was in and out, BUT I liked what I heard and expected, for the most part, to see what I saw. BUT, what was Nancy thinking when she ripped up the speach at the end? Once again showing the world that our leaders have zero respect.
Personally I thought the move was childish, like a little kid screaming that doesn't get thier way. Real classy..........NOT.....
I thought the line up of special guests was very good.
I read somewhere it was a "spur of the moment" action.
However, she spent a lot of time before the end of Trump's speech laying out the transcript in 4 or 5 equally sized stacks on her desk so she could stand at the end and rip each stack in half.
Pathetic - not surprised.
The only protester escorted out was one of Nancy's guests - not surprised.
Trump's address was excellent.
I'm under the impression that she ripped up the speech after Trump didn't shake her hand. Didn't watch and don't follow; just what I heard.
Maybe if she would've kept to protocol and introduced him correctly, he might've shook her hand. She showed no respect to start the night and tore up all doubt that she has no respect at the end.
I watched it in its entirety. She didn't announce him in the traditional way for starters. I'm not sure he saw her reaching for the handshake and he didn't shake Pence's hand either. I think the message from POTUS was awesome and uplifting. The Dems demonstrated that pretty much anything good for the country they don't like it. I also think that Pelosi tearing up the speech was contrived and extremely petty. The messaging from the Dems will not be well accepted by Joe six-pack, IMO.
They're desperate and have no solutions to offer. Their candidates are a train-wreck and they can't even pull off a simple caucus count. They're pissing off their own candidates by making allowances for Bloomberg due to their desperation in having a viable candidate. They have themselves to blame for Ukraine doing more damage to Biden than Trump. They must be terrified by the prospect of losing power.
My hope is that the Dems will lose the House for all of their wasted effort on impeachment that started when Trump was the President elect. We've made progress, but could be so much further ahead if the Dems weren't dragged along kicking and screaming like petulant children.

The missed handshake was before the beginning of the speech. The ripping up of the speech was after the end of the speech. A lot of edited videos were going around that made it look like she ripped it up right after Trump missed the handshake and turned his back to her.

Wow, great addition to your post count.
Thanks for your valuable insight on the topic being discussed.
Edit in an attempt to be nice.
Further, the vast majority of your posts are just political shit posting. And what is the difference between my "I heard" and your "I read somewhere" post? Nothing.

Mike Pence accused Nancy Pelosi of planning all along to rip up the president's State of the Union speech, an accusation the speaker's office denied.
But a canny observer caught the Speaker actually practicing the moves under the table before the speech was over.
And the camera also caught the pages 'pre-ripped' as Pelosi made her final move when the president's speech was over.
'It felt like it,' the vice president said on 'Fox & Friends' Wednesday morning when asked if the speaker had planned her move ahead of time.
A spokesperson for Pelosi insisted that her ripping up the text of Donald Trump's speech was not pre-planned.

I love that Bloomberg got 0%. Can't wait to see how he'll adapt his new ad campaign slogan... "mike will buy it". I'm sure despite it all, he believes he's the liberal Jesus, despite having no apostles.

he hasn't been able to buy them all off, yet
Bloomberg wasn't even on the ballot. He's strategically aiming at the big states, like CA.

Dems through their behaviour are becoming our best political allies.
Trump slams Romney and Pelosi at the National Prayer Breakfast while Nancy sits on stage.

Pelosi, takes a pro-abortion position but uses her Catholic faith as a defense when it suits her. Romney was pushing for more witnesses because the Dem's case wasn't proven, but then voted to convict. I don't think that video shows Trump "blasting" anyone. He does mention people that say they're praying for you but their actions don't align with that.

Amid the cascade of news conferences, public statements, and interviews that Pelosi has given since she launched the formal impeachment inquiry, in late September, a particular moment stands out. Earlier this month, at the end of her weekly news conference, Pelosi had begun to walk off the stage when a reporter from the conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group called out to her, ?Do you hate the President, Madam Speaker?? Pelosi wheeled around and wagged her index finger at him. ?I don?t hate anybody,? she said. ?I was raised in a Catholic house. We don?t hate anybody. Not anybody in the world.? She stalked back to the microphone. ?This is about the Constitution of the United States and the facts that lead to the President?s violation of his oath of office,? Pelosi said. Then she added, ?I still pray for the President. I pray for the President all the time. So, don?t mess with me when it comes to words like that.?

The allegations made in the articles of impeachment are very serious. As a Senator-juror, I swore an oath, before God, to exercise ?impartial justice.? I am a profoundly religious person. I take an oath before God as enormously consequential. I knew from the outset that being tasked with judging the President, the leader of my own party, would be the most difficult decision I have ever faced. I was not wrong.

I'm fully aware of those incidents. Trump made references but didn't call out anyone by name or 'blast' them. When Trump 'blasts' someone, we're all aware of what that looks like.
He mentions that he'll be making a statement from the White House later today. That I expect to be more direct with no punches pulled.
My bad
Trump makes gentle caressing reference to some individuals with whom he is slightly disappointed.
I wouldn't go that far. [Coffee]
I think the poster of the video got a little carried away with the naming of the video, probably in an effort to improve their number of hits.
Oh, and the Democrat Iowa caucus disaster is Trump's fault: [Coffee]
Trump Fans Flooded Iowa Caucus Hotline, Democrats Say (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/elections-2020/trump-fans-flooded-iowa-caucus-hotline-democrats-say/ar-BBZHAUa)
(Bloomberg) -- Supporters of President Donald Trump flooded a hotline used by Iowa precinct chairs to report Democratic caucus results after the telephone number was posted online, worsening delays in the statewide tally, a top state Democrat told party leaders on a conference call Wednesday night.
According to two participants on the call, Ken Sagar, a state Democratic central committee member, was among those answering the hotline on caucus night and said people called in and expressed support for Trump. The phone number became public after people posted photos of caucus paperwork that included the hotline number, one of the people on the call said.
The phone call Wednesday night between the Iowa Democratic Party staff and state central committee, the party’s elected governing body, came as the party was still counting results.
Several glitches, including problems with a new phone application that was supposed to quickly send individual caucus results to the state party, plagued Iowa’s troubled caucuses, causing the outcome to be delayed for days. More than 48 hours after caucusing began, the party had reported results from 96% of precincts and the race was too close to call.
Sagar, who is also president of the Iowa AFL-CIO, declined to comment when reached by Bloomberg News. Troy Price, the chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party, alluded to interference on the conference call, but did not specifically cite Trump supporters.
The state party declined to comment Wednesday.
But the Trump campaign weighed in.
“Don’t know anything about that but maybe Democrats should consider using an app of some kind next time,” Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for Trump’s campaign, wrote in a text message Wednesday night.
When the phone application malfunctioned, precinct chairs turned to the telephone hotline to get the results to the Iowa Democratic Party. Many were placed on long holds and some gave up.
Shawn Sebastian, the caucus secretary for a precinct in Story County, was on hold with the state party for an hour trying to report results through the hotline because of app problems. Party officials came on the phone while he was being interviewed by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, who asked Sebastian to report his precinct’s results while he was on air. He agreed but by the time he turned back to the state party, officials had hung up on him.
Price has been working to assure Democratic leaders that the party is taking every step to confirm the accuracy of the results. On Tuesday, he sent an email to the state central committee, outlining the steps the party has taken.
“As you know, this has been a challenging few days for our team and our state party,” Price wrote. “Media accounts tell part of the story -- technical issues and new reporting requirements caused delays and confusion. What received less attention by the media, was the deliberative and cross-functional approach we brought to preparing for and solving these challenges.”

Things I have read in the past month, and the events of this week are telling me the Dems are probably in bigger trouble than the MSM and Carville are saying. The Iowa caucus turnout was down, which is very bad news for Dems in a presidential election year. While it is true that just because Iowa attendance was down doesn't mean that all the primaries will be down, most of the time that is what happens. People get excited and turn out for something to vote for, not something to vote against. Also I hear of the increasing % turnout of registered dems and independents at Trump rallies - this seems to indicate at least an openness to consider Trump by (probably blue collar) "reliable" dem voters. Finally, it is clear that Trump is making inroads to the black vote. If Biden continues to fade and drops out, where will the black vote go? I would guess that many would stay home, but some may go for Trump.
I am confident right now that Trump will be re-elected. Main question for me is if Republicans can take the house and hold the senate. I think they would need to take 17 or so net house seats to take back the house.
