Hey all,

This past week has been a brand new experience for the HoneyBadger family with school closed for our 2 kiddos (Kindergarten and 2nd Grade). We've found that having a daily schedule really helps, but to have effective "school time," you must have a plan!

For those of you who find yourselves doing some form of homeschooling now, I know it can be really intimidating, but there are a TON of resources out there to help!

A few examples:
Huge number of math worksheets for K-8th grade: https://www.commoncoresheets.com/SortedByGrade.php?Sorted=1oa2

NatGeo has a bunch of educational videos for kids here: https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/videos/amazing-animals/

Tour 12 famous museums virtually: https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/travel-trivia/stuck-at-home-these-12-famous-museums-offer-virtual-tours-you-can-take-on-your-couch-video/ar-BB119nm6?li=BBnbfcL&fbclid=IwAR0_OBJH7lSyTN3ug_MsOeFnNgB1orTa9OBgilKJ7 dhnwlVvHEsptuKkj1c

Adventure Learning is giving out 2 months free (normally $15/mo) with code "LEARN60". Targeted for Preschool-8th grade: https://app.adventure2learning.com/account/register?plan=Monthly

Arizona State University's Virtual Field Trips are a really neat resource for all ages but geared toward middle & high school: https://vft.asu.edu/

A series of complete lesson plans with videos about science topics for K-5th grade. Includes guided lessons online and in-home activities sorted by age and topic: https://mysteryscience.com/school-closure-planning

And finally... The motherload: This is a compiled list of hundreds of teaching resources for all topics, all ages, and in multiple languages: http://www.amazingeducationalresources.com/

The COAR-15 community has always been rooted in helping others. Throughout interesting and difficult times like these are when we can really show the rest of the world the character of our community.
If you have other really helpful tips for homeschooling because you're more experienced than me (this is literally anyone who has ever homeschooled... hahaha), PLEASE share with the group!

Stay safe out there!

Good information. Thanks for sharing.

I'm past the point of having to deal with children these days but it's good to see people are still taking the time to educate their children during this weird time.

ABCMouse.com is free as well. I dont remember the code now though. We have a lot of pre-k k and 1-2 grade workbooks that we have been working on with our boys, ages 6,4 and 3. They are allowed on the computer for about an hour and then we get them off.

I have been having them help with feeding animals. They love the pigs, cow and horse. They love catching the poor duck.

This morning after school work, we plated 72 seeds. We went outside for about an hour, but it started sprinkling, so back in the house. Its rough being "quarantined" to 37 acres.

Check out khan academy. It is a great resource for home schoolers.

Khan Academy is great because it goes higher than 6th grade. I have a 7th grader now. I'm aware of ABCMouse and everything else mentioned so far. If there is stuff for older kids, post it up.

Just finished up with trigger control and sight picture with the 6 year old. He hit the target 6/10 at 70 yards.

Its nice being able to write their lesson plans.

Why arent metro schools livestreaming lessons? Make the teachers union earn its keep.

Schools are putting all their content and lessons on line.

While waiter/waitress do not get paid and face possible layoff after this issue, do teacher and untenured professors gets paid while at home right now?

They should since they are still grading papers and being there to help kids with assignments. My school is still passing out lunch everyday, at least according to the email they keep sending out.

Weren?t they already on a server somewhere for lesson plan approval and ease of using technology in the classroom?

Kind of, but not as thorough as you'd think. We recently had an issue with our kid not bringing home her homework. I was pretty disappointed to find it In couldn't just go to a website and print out any worksheet or reading packet I wanted. Forgetting to bring an assignment home shouldn't even be an option.

Little above her grade level, but I saw her self reading/studying "Step 1" book.
Only issue is that I get about 25 questions per half hour.

If you look in the last link I posted, you can scroll through the list and find resources that are specifically for Jr. High and High School. [Awesom]

This is a really uninformed opinion. The teacher in my house is up until midnight doing lesson plans and grading every night because the school doesnt pay them for any plan time during their day.

HB, to say that we missed you during your absence would be an understatement - and this thread is a perfect example of why that is so.

Thank you for posting this information. While my kids are long out of school, I do have a grandson who will be starting Kindergarten in August. It's quite possible that this information may be needed for him later in the year.

So glad to have you back brother.

We tried to get my kid to study math. She ended up grounded 3 times, and going to her room each and every time for hours.

She started online connection learning with her teacher and her classmate. Surprisingly no lag on connection, but her district issued chromebook is slightly slow.
