Many months ago I was looking at an AR with a brace at Green Mountain Guns. One of the clerks said he has inside knowledge that ATF are planning to ban braces. I though he was saying that to push for a sale at the time, maybe he actually did know.

Which model? And why only one?
Or they could just recognise that a short barrels rifle is no more dangerous than a high powered pistol.

As with pretty much every other case of ATF letters, we're doomed to fail, this year, or otherwise pretty soon.
The design of most looks like they'd make really effective bookends, with correct adaptations to make sure they couldn't be misused, like updated package labeling. [Pot]
The ATF is probably tired of everybody writing, and asking for clarification.

So maybe some day that brace gathering dust in the closet will be some sort of valuable pre-ban item?

Doubtful there will be a full ban across the board on braces, at least not anytime soon. It’s my understanding based on what I’ve read about this so far that it’s one brace/brand specifically, most likely one of the more “blade” style once that you can argue don’t add much support like the SB braces with straps.

So far, Military Arms Channel is the ONLY source for this ... I don't doubt that F-Troop would pull something like this but I've sat through 3-4 videos from gun channels on this and ALL of them refer to Military Arms Channel. So I'm not ready to panic ... yet.

I suspect that is what he saw so that leads a little more weight to this one. I guess we'll see.

TTAG ain't the best source in the world, but I think he has a point. This letter that everyone (via MAC) are freaking out about is a letter from a law firm speculating about what F-Troop might be up to. For speculation, I think its fine (and probably pretty smart) but its still just speculation.
A lot of FUD flying around here with little evidence.
Prediction: They'll do it, and just like that, millions of people will not only be ok with being felons, but stop giving a single shit about the ATF.

My prediction is if Biden wins, this will be the first step in a final shredding of the second amendment ... if Trump wins this gets folded up and put in a drawer somewhere (waiting for a future Democrat president).
But yeah, I agree this is a bridge too far enough to get the law abiding to just say eff it ... I'll be a criminal. And then you'll find 3d printer files for lightning links and shit like that all over the place.

I saw a blurb on Youtube last night basically stating that ATFE was delaying determination on this 60 days. I'm guessing that the "determination" will be entirely dependent on the outcome of the election.

That is likely. They put that delay in place before the vote of the new Supreme Court Justice as well. It may play into the decision they make too.

More to the point, I had read the headline on an online article earlier. My response was intended more in the stand the f*** by. I'm thinking something similar will come along, then the antis will back off a little, then celebrate the spirit of compromise.
