I?ve had a problem set in fairly recently on the RL 1100, and I haven?t been able to track down the problem:

Any ideas? It?s becoming a problem, at about 3% of my cartridges. It seems to have a propensity for WCC, GFI, CBC, and Speer brass, at frequencies above where they appear in my brass collection..

Edit: as I study them, it looks like the punch (and primer?) is entering off-center. Maybe a timing adjustment is in order.

Not sure how the 1100 is compared to the 650 but if my shell plate snaps as it rotates it will tilt the primers in the feeder and insert them just like that.

I have had similar in the 650, the primer itself tends to tilt and gets smashed when seated.

Either it needs the alignment checked, OR the indexing block readjusted. A lot of people look at the shell plate to primer pin alignment, thinking it needs to be readjusted. But few look at the indexing block . That advances the plate and a tad out of adjustment will cause the same issue.

Pg 61 & 64 of the 750 manual . You can loosen those allen head bolts. just snug one down as you slide it forward or to the rear of the press.

You're lucky you haven't had a detonation.

Replace the plastic tipped primer tube with a brass tipped one from a 650/750.

Most likely the blue plastic primer tip is messed up and allowing primers to sit sideways.

I used to be terrified of this. I’m not saying you should be complacent, but I’ve smashed probably 100 without an event (yet).

Ordered. For what it’s worth, it’s currently a newish blue tip.

Need anything else from Dillon? I have to stop by there tomorrow.

Oddly, the answer ended up being that I needed more swage in the pockets. The primers tilt if they run into tight primers or staking. The increase in failure rate still strikes me as weird compared to historical, but maybe my population of weird brass has increased, too.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

That's a really good observation. Are all the failures in the same batch of brass?
