18" here, a lot more over in Fort Collins. Gave two nurses rides home yesterday afternoon. Took another to work this morning, several more scheduled for today.
Haha! On Friday I thought I’d break down and finally buy a snowblower-Mr Last Minute. Went to Home Depot and the few in stock were $1400+. So.........I bought a gun instead [ROFL2]
Anywhere from 4"-4ft on my drive. Thank god for snowblowers and just like gun safes always buy one that is way bigger then you need at the time.

I was looking a little enviously at my neighbors snowblower but a $500+ purchase for a once-in-20-years storm seems like a poor investment.
I retire in 3 years, with luck, and we're looking to go someplace a little warmer anyway. I'll take my chances that we won't get another storm like this here until long after I've moved to sunnier climates.

I had quite a bit more snow last night but with a lot of blow-off. Got a lot of the neighbors' blow-off onto my driveway so I ended up with drifts ranging from ankle high to knee high to almost waist-high. Tallest drifts were up against my backdoor -- had to shovel it out just so I could get out to clear the DirecTV dish. I've had deeper snows and drifts but never felt so old when clearing them -- the sciatica I've been suffering from during the past year didn't help.
Finally got all dig out. Once the driveway and sidewalks and porch were clear I took my truck and drove back and forth to compact the snow in my little half culdesac to get to the clearest part of the road on the far side. Hopefully now my wife?s vehicle can make it out if she has to go anywhere.
Anyone here how much snow we might get tomorrow?
Unfortunately, my back and shoulders were sore since before the storm when I rushed to crush and recycle 130lbs of beer cans for my neighbor before the storm hit. Then I spent most of the storm pulling my transmission and transfer case. I didn't pick up a shovel until about 8pm last night. I only shoveled my side walk and a bit more on either side, but I carried each shovel full to build up a few enormous piles of snow for the neighbor kids to sled down.
On an unrelated note, there was a car fire in the middle of the street (on the next block up). A Cadillac sedan. Unrelated, some neighbors were cruising around on a quad, and while emergency vehicles were arriving on the same street, decided to leave their quad just parked in the street for at least 30 minutes. What a bunch of clowns.
As for tuning up a snow blower, I'm behind in small engine repair myself. Have to repair the pull starter on my lawn mower, I have a 2-stroke dirt bike that needs the head built (I think), and I still haven't gotten that Gravely running yet.

Kept the snow clear and my driveway is already dry. ;).
Wonder if there will be a lot of ice dam issues this week. Depends on if it gets to freezing every night or not.
it shut the city down for a week nobody drove anyplace period. snowmobiles are the only thing that was on the road.[ROFL1]Are calling me a liar, sir?

I don't remember when, but there was that monster snow storm with killer winds....it seemed like the town was closed up tight; no driving allowed and there was a call out for folks who owned real Hummers to drive doctors to the hospital. Depending on location and size of the drifts; some folks at work were snowed in for a good week or two. Those folks were living out in the 'sticks' and had a drive way that ran more than a few acres before hitting a dirt road.
I think I was snowed in Fri night and it was late Tue before I could get out.
This storm for me was a slush storm; nasty but short lived.
Can I borrow the tractor? Haha
I have an appointment to take my RZR to TFOGGER tomorrow, but I just looked and there is a waist high drift on each side of my trailer and the RZR is full of snow to the top of the doors. This should be fun.
If you want to pend it for a few days, that would be fine with me. They're just plowing the lot now...

Weather Channel app (which was spot-on in its predictions of 10 - 20" from this last storm) says less than an inch.
Well. That was interesting. About 18? drifted in front of my driveway. My neighbors had 12. So I tried to get the truck out and forgot to get it into 4 hi. Well it was fun learning the following: How to recover a car, my burb without lockers is prone to getting stuck, 12? snow is the most that my truck likes to roll over. Also need to figure out better recovery ramps and it?s time to get new duratracs or ko2s.
This turned into the big dig.

Tires make a world of difference. My company truck is a Ford and probably has a better 4WD system than my personal truck (Dodge) but even with everything locked in the Ford struggled this morning with its unassuming tires where the Dodge with its all-terrains had no problem plowing through knee deep snow.

I took my kia sportage with nokian wrg4's and had no issues driving on the side streets all the main roads were cleared. We probly got around 20in here in wellington, it's hard to tell we had 40mph winds. 4ft snow drifts aginst my garage were awesome to shovel.

Stop by Bowers Tactical tomorrow. There's plenty of parking as of noon today.
Glad they aren't open on Mondays... I had to repair my plow's hydrolic system while parked in the middle (turn lane) of Yosemite this morning before I could finish up. Glad it wasn't broken during the storm because that would have really sucked.
U joint on the truck didn't fail so there's that. Yay

Tires are key.
My wife's Ford Explorer was plowing 6" of snow in my street with the front bumper but still didn't have any trouble cause of the Blizzak tires. They're worth it. The all seasons never could cut it in the snow.
My Ram SUCKS in the snow with standard OEM "All-terrains". But put some Hankook snows on it and it's so much easier in the snow.

I run Blizzaks on my 2WD truck, after years of experience getting into places I couldn't get out of, the foibles of which I have documented here a few times over the years. After all, who needs 4WD when a 6 pack of Coors hung out the window will attract five guys in F350s with Miller Electric rigs on the back, fighting to pull you out? But since getting the Blizzaks and a limited slip differential, the snow has not proved much of an obstacle to me any more. I was zipping around today without any problems.

Those are great tires. Have them on 2 AWD Escapes (wife and daughter) and they're outstanding in snow/ice and perform and wear decent on dry.
I've got Ultragrips on my van and love them. A guy at Discount says that's what State Patrol uses on their Chargers.

Agreed on having a good set of snow tires. I used to be skeptical about having to change tires but had a set of Blizzaks on my RWD fun car and got caught up in an early snow storm. I was maneuvering like the streets were dry even as I passed cars and trucks that were already in the median, against poles/trees, or crashed into each other. Even had a 4WD try to maneuver around outside of me as we were both turning right (he probably thought I'd get stuck) and watched him drift out of control into the median as I completed my turn.
As the Monkees sang, I'm a believer.

Mar 2019 there was a nasty one east. Elbert county was begging for snowmobilers to help rescue people. Some idjit trying to get back to KS got stranded east of Elbert with his kids. I think they actually ran out of gas.
2003 was the "big one."
I seem to recall a few other windblown blizzards between 2003 and 2019 where friends in Elizabeth got socked in for days, much worse than we did.

My RAM 3500 came with Firestone transforce tires, just about the most useless tire you could imagine. I replaced them at about 500 miles.
The Falken A/T3W I put on did very well today. Much better than the junk BFG's I used to run.

The new cable things between the east and west sides have been really entertaining. Always fun to see cars plowed into them.

For pure winter tires the best I have had.
But I had a set of cooper winter tires. They were good too. But blizzaks the best.
Pirrelli Scorpion Winter are decent and one of the few winter tires that are VR speed rated (up to 149mph). I prefer lower speed rating and better winter tire though.
This storm may have had more snow, but for me much more tame than the 2006 Xmas storm.
This one did not leave 6 foot drifts in my yard/driveway.
One area (where I watch out of my windows) had tractors Sunday pulling people out. Drove through there this morning where the road was "clear" and the drift+piled snow was 10 to 12 feet high. For some reason wind always blows / dumps in that section of road.
But really, why did the town keep pulling people out when they were practicing Darwinism by driving Sunday night? Sometimes people irritate me; they do stupid, unnecessary things (like driving when they did not NEED to go anywhere; most people can survive 24 hours in their house) and then expect others to come bail them out. Many time first responders (and snow crews) are at risk because of stupid decisions others make. Maybe spending the night in a stuck car would teach some people what poor decision making results in?
You?re just assuming those people had no business being out. While I?m sure there were some people out just joyriding and probably some people who felt a trip to the liquor store was very necessary, I?m sure some of the people who were out and about may have had jobs to get to or maybe some sort of emergency situation that they had no choice but to get out on the roads.

There are very few people who needed to be out. You know that to be true. Yes, there are first responders, medical, utility people. But going to 7-11 for milk is not essential nor smart. It can wait a day.
Also, when people get stuck that makes it harder for plows to come through and get things flowing again.
Does suitcases look like essential travel?

Does taking your family out and needing rescue by the APD SWAT seem smart or does it seem like Darwinism?
Fire, LEO, EMS, etc
If 2020 taught us anything then we all know the ?etc? means fast food workers and Walmart employees.
You know... essential workers.
The shit thing is there are some "essential" employers that may not let someone stay home. Dollar store gotta stay open for the 3 customers they will get all day...etc. The choice to stay home isnt as easy for some as it should be.

The ones that get me are those people who say "me and my kids were stuck for 7 hours".
A) Are you out for a family drive?
B) If you do have to take the family out, bring winter boots/jackets/gloves/etc. So you can walk to shelter instead of sitting 7 hours waiting for a rescue. Most of these people got stuck in town somewhere. Short walk to get somewhere that's not your stuck car.
I like driving around in snow storms as much as the next guy. I think it's fun. But act like an adult and plan accordingly if that's what you're going to do. Keep good tires on your car. If you're too cheep/poor for snow tires, keep chains in your car. Bring boots. Bring a tow strap. Bring a damn shovel. This storm wasn't a surprise, how hard is it to just load some useful shit into your car if you must go out?

there is.
But you must be under 40, and admit your privilege got you this far.
Us seniors are grandfathered, of course ;)
Isn't their an app for my smartphone that keeps me from getting stuck, or puts snow tires on my car?
I'd buy that app, especially if it would put chains on after my getting the truck stuck.
My Toy plow wears studded snow tires year round and it's usually sufficient to plow deep snow without needing chains. But more times than I care to remember I've high centered the plow frame and front differential by pushing too far into a heavy wet snow berm. Then, i have to chain the rear tires and shovel the packed snow under the frame in order to back out. I've mostly learned to avoid that now and if necessary I'll chain up all four to push the deep wet spring snow.
I live off a state highway and the state plows bury our driveway entry. Today I spent two hours chewing off swipes of packed snow in front of the mailboxes, about 12 ft wide, six feet high and ~30 ft long so the mail courier could access the boxes. I sweep all this 100+ yards down the highway shoulder so there's room for the next snowstorm. I expect the state will send a grader through soon because the plows have no room left to push snow off the road.
Drove to Ferncliff to gas up the plow and encountered an older fellow shoveling a tunnel from his house and driveway to the road. I was able to push a few tons of snow out of the way so he could get out. Us senior citizens have to look out for each other.

No, no, no. Feelings would get hurt, and that's the most important thing to avoid at all costs. The pussification is rampant and growing.
Can we just bring back public ridicule in the town square? Seems like it might have a positive effect sometimes.
I think that's a marvelous idea. Public stocks along public boulevards to punish transgressors. For the elitist frat and sorority college kids in the recent Boulder riot, sentence them to be locked in wooden stocks to face opprobrium. Construct a special drive lane along Broadway from College to University Boulevard where passersby could jeer the fools over days and weeks as they piss and crap their pants while contemplating what they did that got them where they are. An assault against society should be met by public justice and ridicule.
Can we also bring back tarring and feathering for crooked politicians?

Agreed. When I first moved to the state in 1988, we were instructed to think about being stranded in the vehicle in the winter:
- Think about whether you need to go out at all
- Always keep at least half a tank of gas in the vehicle
- Keep winter clothes/footgear/gloves/cap, water, food, and heat source in the car (it's amazing what a little candle will do inside an enclosed volume
- Always crack the window to let out fumes and let in fresh air when using the candle
Contemporary society has become one that just doesn't think. They let Google and Wikipedia do all their thinking for them. You're right. I think this is what's it comes down to. We live in truly a great country, but an EASY one...if you want it to be. Society as a whole has gone soft as a result.
Want to go to college? Used to be hard, financially and academically. But now literally anyone can get a loan. And while you're there you can take classes that are worthless that take zero effort to pass. College is a for profit business that wants as many customers as they can muster. Come one, come all.
Want to live your life not working at all? No problem. You can have the comforts you want including cell phone and internet.
Don't want to cook, clean, maintain anything, shop, do your own laundry, mow your lawn, walk your own dog, etc etc etc? No problem, there's a service for that.
We are soft and have very few self reliant citizens anymore. Why should they be? There's an app for that...
Why shouldn't there be a service for everything? That's a major part of what makes America, America.
