Keep your finger off the trigger unless you're ready to fire.

if you ever have the opportunity to go downrange in an indoor range--take it--and look up. you will be amazed and how many impacts there are in the ceiling
Hot brass. If you have to dance, put the firearm down first.

Was at a local range when a gal got the hot brass treatment down her her shirt. Her ND grazed her yoga pants and went into the wall.

Any revolver avoids the hot brass dance. I think SA or DA/SA revolvers work well for training- very easy to explain, operation is highly intuitive, and load/unload status is clear, especially on a swing-out cylinder.
My wife generally wants nothing to do with a semiauto pistol, but is fully competent with her 60's vintage Colt PPS and Agent.
You could also just warn them. The casing is going to get very hot, and eject, it may hit you.
It's not going to kill you.
