Torn Rotator Cuff - rehab thoughts?

Went up hiking Saturday on top of Rollins Pass, hiked around the lakes and had a awesome time. Beautiful day, dog got a hell of a workout, poor guy was tired and that's a rare day!

Only downside was I stumbled over a stump on the way out. Went down hard, was down before I knew what happened. I knew my shoulder was hurt getting up. Went to Urgent Care today, torn rotator cuff, among some pretty good rib bruising.

The doc at Urgent Care was talking surgery already due to my lack of mobility (can't hardly lift my arm at all). Dr. Google makes it sound like surgery usually isn't necessary.
Anyone else have a rotator cuff injury? Thoughts? What did you do for rehab? And this right before hunting season...

I had a shoulder replaced and it is about a 4 month rehab. Wife and both kids had torn rotator cuffs and all three had to get surgery. Rehab about 2-3 months. First 2 weeks very painful. Get a ice machine and it will work wonders for the pain. Good luck.

If it's actually torn, you can't un-tear it with PT. Sounds like a surgery is in order.
I have constant shoulder pain, but I get stuck with the doctor that tells me I'm just not using my shoulder enough, so I live with it. Yours was abrupt though, someone's gonna have to stuck a camera in there.

Go to a specialist or two and get their opinions.

If your military or retired there is a good surgeon at the Air Force academy. He works on foot ball players etc. My son had his shoulder worked on early spring. Shoulder used to dislocate on a whim.
He is back to racing MTB's and rock climbing.

If it's a complete tear, you need surgery.

A partial tear can affect mobility shortly after the injury, in which case you'll get some mobility back by the weekend, but continuing to use that tendon will make it worse.

See a specialist and see what they say. PRP injection speeds recovery, but insurance usually doesn't want to cover it.
