So, I was at home today for lunch and noticed my .308 was moved around a little and the wife was acting a little sheepish (so was the dog come to think of it...) Anyways, I asked her if everything was ok and she started squealing. (We can't keep anything from each other no matter how hard it is... grrr). She informed me in high pitch screamings that today she shipped off my bolt to have some work done to it by Kampfeld Custom for my birthday!!! I love my wife!! She asked a long time ago about different "mods" that I would mention here and there. So my bolt is getting a large knob put on, spiral flutes, and painted all black to match the stock! I'm so excited. Apparentely she called my dad to ask what to do and dad never mentioned a word to me! lol.

Congrats! My wife has always come through on planning awesome dates for us like paint balling and going to a live MMA fight. I almost always screw up and don't do anything or get her something lame. I wish I had her capacity of knowing just what to do to make other people happy.

That's, what? Twice in less than 2 weeks that she has really come through for you?! She is definitely a keeper.

Now don't get me wrong, I've got a really good wife too but it certainly looks like you found the perfect woman as your bride.

Recipe? (Hey, I've gotta try to earn some points with my wife too!)

CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY TRUFFLE CHEESECAKE
1 1/2 c. (about 18) finely crushed creme-filled chocolate cookies
4 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces, melted
1/3 c. seedless raspberry preserves
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/4 c. whipping cream

Combine cookie crumbs and butter and press onto bottom of 9 inch springform pan. Combine 3 of the 8 ounce packages of cream cheese with the sugar, mixing at medium speed on electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each. Blend in sour cream and vanilla; pour over crust. Combine remaining cream cheese and melted chocolate, mixing at medium speed on electric mixer until well blended. Add preserves; mix well. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of chocolate cream cheese batter over plain cream cheese batter; do not swirl. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Loosen cake from rim of pan; cool before removing rim of pan. Melt remaining chocolate pieces and whipping cream over low heat, stirring until smooth. Spread over cheesecake. Chill. Garnish with additional whipping cream, whipped, raspberries and mint leaves, if desired. Serves 10-12.

I don't follow everything exactly as mentioned (I'm a male) but it's a really good recipe. Also, I usually leave mine in the fridge over night or at least 4 or 5 hours to really get it set and cool. If you need to borrow a cheesecake pan (Don't know the real word for it) let me know. It's a flat bottom pan and the sides unbuckle from it.... specifically made for cheesecake and the likes. Let me know how it goes, good luck!

Give her a nice hand massage tonight, so she's all limbered up to install the bolt when it comes in. If she balks at the suggestion, tell her that no one likes getting a half-assed gift.

Classic!! HAHA.

The wife has been getting plenty pampered lately. We are trying to get preggers... Not sure if either of us can though. Kind of personal, but hey it's the internet! I had a bad car wreck back in high school and she has had unusal "girl" problems in her life. We don't have insurance or anything right now so doctors is not an option right now. Hopefully that'll change when I get a better job. I just thank God that I have a job right now. Three of my friends are moving back in with their parents and they all have MM and one PhD.

Irving

Try to get insured at a job before she is pregnant because it will be cheaper to have babies while insured (I think). For what it is worth, everyone I've known who has had "lady problems" and didn't think they could get pregnant, has. Have you tried stay up late and getting really drunk? Also, maybe buy a two-seater convertible/motorcycle and tell yourself "this is all the car I need right now." Good luck.

Oh yeah, also, every time you do it, make sure your wife doesn't do any of that wives tale crap like laying a certain way. That is all bullshit. She just needs to say the line "Don't worry, I'm on the pill" at least once each session.

That's all the free advice I can give you.

When the wife placed the rifle she just purchased me on my lap she started to walk away. I said "hey doesn't this gift include a shoulder neck massage"?

HAHA, y'all are gonna get me in trouble. First I don't drink. Second, I don't backtalk my wife. She might be small, but she'll light my ass up. Third, couldn't afford the coupe car right now. Fourth... geesh, nevermind. I'm looking for a better job honest!

Now that we are trading recipes I think she'll be OK with it[LOL].
By the way, I can cook some mean pasta sauces...

BigBear - The wife (of 6.5 mos) and I are trying too... maybe we should correspond. Seems my wife is getting a bit "psychotic" regarding the prep stuff...things I won't post here for obvious life expectancy reasons - (MINE)!

Funkfool - Just PM Sir. I'd be happy to correspond.

Everyone else - Last nights' dinner: Venison steak (a friend of mine is a true blood Indian, goes hunting with his dad and preps the meat traditionally, very tender and tasteful), taters, homegrown green beans, steamed and buttered carrots/broccolli, and homemade (from scratch) Blueberry Cheesecake with vanilla bean ice cream! yum...

Tonights Dinner:

Due to our schedules, we rarely get an opportunity to enjoy beakfast in the morning, so... from time to time we have "Breakfast Night".

While we hadn't actually scheduled tonight as Breakfast Night, we were struggling to come up with something to make for dinner. After about an hour, my wife suggested I make her my "Bird's Nest". This is a medium skillet filled across the bottom with freshly grated potato hash browns with finely chopped onions (the wife REALLY likes onions) and seasoned with a touch of garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.

After years of practice, I have the chef skillet flip down to flip the hash browns over to brown on the other side.

Once the potato's are done, I slide them onto a plate and then slide one or two fried eggs onto the center over the top.

Wallah! A Bird's Nest.

Congrats on the good woman ,Lord knows I went through a few till I found a keeper. Found her on an IPSC range about 7 yrs ago.

Our LR is maybe 14x14...and shes never complained about the 1050 in the corner or the ever rotating green ammo cans. What more could you ask for? :)

Well Congratulations to the both of you (and to your spouses as well). I celebrated (er, hmm) my 21st last Nov 1. It's a lot of years, and never all fun and joy, but if you can find a person that you can put up with their crap - and more importantly, who can put up with yours, you're blessed for sure.

My current wife and I are going to celebrate our 11th anniversary next month.

I'm late to this party and although I was LMAO for the first few posts due to all the cooking talk, etc. on a firearm focused forum (not going to lie, I love to cook) I do have a little serious input.

Our first child is now 9 months old...a girl. Loving it. But I seriously agree with Stuart's post above. We are insured but did get to see the bill to the insurance company. $26k for all the standard baby related appointments, delivery, etc. On top of all that, my wife had some complications (not uncommon) after the birth that required surgery and set the insurance company back another $45k. With insurance...cost us $1,000. Un-taxed because we set it aside in a health savings account first.

So, insurance is a good idea if you plan on having a baby. The good news is that when you start a new job that offers good insurance, pregnancy normally doesn't count as a pre-existing condition. The bad news is I think FMLA benefits don't start unless you have been at your job for 12 months.

Back on the original topic though...still working on my wife to get her to get me gun stuff as gifts. She is still a little uncomfortable and worries she will get me the wrong stuff no matter how many times I tell her I love anything that has to do with firearms, ANYTHING. I keep a "wish list" on MidwayUSA so she can just get ideas from there. Although, she has plenty of time to get comfortable because she keeps reminding me I am stuck with her forever and depending on your thoughts on the afterlife, that's another good 60 years at the least. I see a lot of new toys in my future.

Funny, when I read your Midway wish-list ... I had a perfect idea.

Midway, Grafs, Brownells ... they all should have wedding gift registries ... you know, just like Bed, Bath and Beyond and the like. Now that's a gift shopping trip I could handle [ROFL1]

Our first was a preemie....was almost more preemie than she turned out. We were out of town when it started, all NICUs there were closed, flight for life back to Denver, 5 weeks in the NICU after she was born, after all was said and done it was around $100K. After Insurance, it cost us $5. Worth it in spades.

These examples of having insurance are great. We had insurance (but not the best since no one was expecting to be preggo) and we just made our last payment from the birth over two years later.

I was in Korea when my wife went into labor with my daughter (Active duty USAF; my wife was in Illinois). I rushed back as quick as I could but missed my daughters birth by 19 hours. In the mean time, my wife was in active labor for 32 hours - and that didn't start until about 4 hours after her water broke. the net result was that my daughter ingested amneotic fluid that had form bacteria. When my daughter finally made it into the world she was pretty sick. She was in the hospital for the first 10 days of her life with all sorts of IV's and other hoses attached all over her and under the jaundice lamps as well. When it was all said and done, we had to pay $45. I felt very blessed to have the insurance that I had.

Maybe, but I'd rather pay a few hundred rather than a few thousand if I can help it... Unfortunately, I'm still not covered... Fortunately, I'm usually healthy as a horse... And even more fortunately, my recent Doc visit was less than quoted.

I am in love with my Wife too, I got a Socom II a few years back for our anniversary, she only got a lousy XD40. We got matching shotguns twice, and she is working on customizing her first AR.
After reading all these posts, it seems like a few of us married the right ones!
Our first child was born without the benefit of insurance, we qualified for assistance, and even with all the complications she cost us $50.
We had good insurance for the birth of our son, he cost $3200.

32 years on July 1. Our first was born 9 months and 10 days after the wedding, I was a student. No insurance and the total hospital bill was $250.

Insurance has helped the health care field more than the consumers. Costs would not be near as high if we were paying out of our pockets. In 1950 a doctor made an average middle income.
